06.08.05: THE ROXY THEATRE and Los Angeles.
Wow. So this is LA? Where to begin? First off, I guess I just want to say thank you to everyone who has made this visit out here so incredible. To travel over 3000 miles and arrive in a totally new city, drive along the hype of Sunset Boulevard and arrive at THE ROXY THEATRE to see such an amazing turn out of fans I’ve never even met is a feeling that’s hard to describe. You guys rock. The show went by too fast as they always do but last night will remain in my heart – perhaps most notably on account of what may now forever be known as “The G-String Incident”. I’ll leave that to be described by folks who were at the show but I will say that last night was the first concert I’ve ever ended in Acappella.
It just feels so good to be out here. I don’t really know how else to put it. It comes as such a welcomed breath of fresh 78-degree-air that this Syracusan needed. Don’t get me wrong, I love the music scene on the East coast, but I think I really needed this change to reinvigorate me from what has been a very long 6 months of touring. Further, blue skies and sunshine don’t’ lie. (I don’t really know what that means but I’m hoping to figure it out by the next entry )
So much else is different out here: did you know that they have dumpster trucks that pick up the trash with an automatic “claw”, thus eliminating the need for someone to ride on the back of the truck and manually empty the neighborhood trash cans! Now that is something we need back East although it does raise the controversial issue of automation and employment opportunities – see the Oxford Dictionary’s definition of “Luddite” for more. Finally, on a culinary note, I’ve always been a HUGE advocate of “Subway” but after dining on “Quizno’s”, all I can say is in the words of Bob Dylan, “the time’s they are a changin’.”
Can’t wait for the rest of the shows on this West Coast tour. Things are just heating up.
Hope this finds you feeling healthy,
JoCo
