AE Thread....
If you have any questions about setting up your Associated car or truck or BJ4, post'em here and I will try to answer as quickly as possible.
Slow!!!!
Yeah... that is the million dollar question....when? Heard that there MIGHT be pic's coming as soon as Febuary in the mag's and web sites...we'll see!
I have not tried the arms forward thing on my buggy simply because the traction has been good enough not to. The move gives you more forward bite and takes away side bite(based from other peoples experience's). Shortening the wheel base on any car will make it less stable, so you will have to worry about. I'll try it sooner or later.
Cleaning
All right, I'll be the first. When rebuilding a differential, do you reuse the diff balls, or just replace them? If you reuse the balls, how do you clean them?
Re: Cleaning
The 3/32 carbide balls can be reused a couple of times, at least I have. I would say two or three rebuilds are about the extent of the life. The trick to the diffs is the OTHER diff balls. The diff trust balls are the ones that I replace EVERY time. And when you rebuild the diff, make sure that you pack in LOTS of black grease with the trust balls.
When cleaning the 3/32 balls, I use brake cleaner/motorspray and a clean towel that has some "fluff" to it so when you spray them down ,the dirt/grime falls "into" the towel. Using a paper towel will allow the dirt to sit there...stay away from that.
Re: Slow Ver.2.0
The rear arm forward mod on high bite tracks wil make the car a little easier to turn. I used to run mine that way outdoors, and loved it indoors... What would be a good starting point as a setup for LH for B4...thanks
Re: Slow Ver.2.0
When we have decent traction...the arms in the middle of the hub is a good starting point. Move the arms forward when you need a little more forward bite...knowing,like you said, that the car will turn a little more.
Hi. We just nabbed at T4 for the kid to learn on. I never ran truck, so for practicing with the kid, is there anything that we should do to a stock T4RS out of the box?
I wanted a 4wd for myself, so I got a xxx4, but you mention that you use a BJ4. Is the BJ4 considered to be an Associated buggy? How do you think parts support at local hobby shops will work out for it?
What buddy!! Yeah, the main thng that I would do to the T4 is make sure that the tires are right. I know that sounds like "DUH", but at Leisure, it's ALL about tires. The kits come pretty set from what I've driven(limited to be sure) of the RTR's, so getting the right skins is important. Pink Tapers from Losi are the ticket. The compound just works. Same for the fronts, go with Tapers in the front or Pink Directionals.Trinity Bomb 1 grey foam is preferred all the way around as well. I would Dremel down the tires(front and rears) about half way down so you can have a tire that will work for most of the conditions.
The BJ4 is the best 4 wheel car I've ever driven. It just plain jumps, accelerates and handles awesome. As far as parts, it's up to the hobby shop. I know that they can order the parts. Aside from front arms, the front shock tower is the only thing that I have had to replace. It's built well. Did I mention it's fast?
B4 shock settings
Just wondering what shock oil/spring combo I should run for the current track layout? I'm runnin 19turn at the Kahuna and lookin for a general setting.
I generally run 35wt w/#1s in front and 25(when bumpy-ish) or 30wt when it's kinda smooth. Brown springs in front and green in rear (or silver). Two turns out in the front shock ends and one thin spacer INSIDE for limiting in the rear.
