I would like to take this time through my tears, to thank "Ice"John Scully, for remembering my Dad, for listening to him.
Monday Dec 9th 1998; my Daddy passed away, so this Monday becomes very touching to me, but moore than anything, "Somebody remembered Mister Archie Moore" I always wondered growing up, as I watched my Father effortlessly hand write, then later (self-taught) type responses to all his fan mail. Never once did anyone answer for him or was paid to. He insisted ... "If they can take the time to write me, the least I can do is answer them!" He had so much respect for his fellow man ... his heart went out to the young boxers, wanting to be champs or just box. He always wanted to have a big "camp" where Any Boy Can ... Anyone who wanted to train he wanted to train them ... bring them in from all parts of the world. Well, he got most of that dream. From a young "Cassisus Clay" /Muhammad Ali, to a 17 year old by mail Ice John Scully. Foreman, Bob Foster, Eddie Mustafa, Tommy Brooks, Rashid Muhammad flew out from Baltimore. Others came from Africa, Australia, Europe and all parts of the USA and the Islands, Mexico ... Yes, those were the days, when a Champion, an Icon was still willing to help someone other than themselves, to pass along a few Mongoose secrets and tactics.
January 2002, the best secret to the Mongoose -- my Mother went to join him. They will be missed but never forgotten, nor far away. When you are in the gym ... listen shhh ... you can hear the sounds of the ol' Mongoose "riki tivi tavi" and "tee -hee- hee" then confuse your opponent ... ask Ice ... It works!
