I'm allergic to everything that can make you sneeze -- cats, dogs, dust, pollen, all that sort of stuff. Horses are the worst. I've tried riding horses a couple of times and it was a disaster.

Re: Allergies
Personally, I'm not allergic to anything, but my cousin, Matt, is allergic to pretty much anything and everything. He's allergic to egg whites, dust, pollen, dogs, cats, almonds, lanolin, and the list just keeps going on and on. It's not too good for his social and dating status, let me tell ya...
Re: Allergies
In my cousin it's more of a build-up of reactions. First, he starts coughing and wheezing hysterically and then he gets these red hives all over his face and arms and legs. He's had to be hospitalized more than once.

Re: Allergies
I have roughly 15-20 min after I ingest egg whites to live, not kidding. My body goes into shock. My blood pressure drops very quickly, my throat closes up and finally (I have never made it this far) my heart stops. The closest I ever came to dying is when I had a sandwich with mayo on it after I specifically told the waiter that I could not have any egg products of any sort, including mayo. I realized it right after I took the first bite, but it was too late. I did not have my shot with me (I carry around an emergency shot of steroids with me, it buys me another 30 min generally). I had enough time to say call 911, I am having an allergic reaction. Then I fell over. My blood pressure fell and I could not breath. I blacked out. Then I awoke at the ER with many tubes hooked up to me. It really sucks having allergies
Re: Allergies
I'm not allergic to anything that I know of but my husband is allergic to certain smells like perfumes and body products. His throat closes up and he can't breath. His mom is allergic to strawberries. She has the same reaction you have Sabinka.
Re: Allergies
Poor thing! There's a woman I work with who is allergic to wheat, but I don't think it's as severe as yours. I think she just gets itchy or something.
I am allergic to mold and grass, but it's just hay fever kind of symptoms. Nothing horrible. I also get sick to my stomach if I eat apples. Actually, I can eat exactly one half and then as soon as I take one more bite, I throw up. (Sorry if that's too gross!) Now, I can hardly smell them anymore without getting nauseous.
Binky - I am sure there are lots of ice cream-type foods that don't have eggs...like sorbet or what about gelato? I know it's not as good, but...
Also, you should check out organic hippy type food places. They always have all kinds of stuff that is animal-product free.
You know, it's weird, but they are starting to attribute all sorts of diseases to food allergies and nutritional deficiencies. The one that springs to mind is autism. All that stuff is fascinating to me. Like I learned recently that both complex carbohydrates and tryptophan (the stuff in turkey that makes you sleepy) are essential for your body's production of seratonin (the neurotransmitter which is often defective in depressed folks). Also that chocolate and diet cola (of all things) have a chemical called PEA that is a natural anti-depressant. It also stimulates a woman's ability to feel sexually attractive. Is it any wonder that so many women are addicted to those two items??

His casual bump seems affectionate, but I've noticed that some of it rubs off.
Not unlike Tinkerbell, I wonder if he thinks he's teaching me a lesson.
Re: Allergies
Diet cola, huh? That might explain something I've noticed since switching from Coca-Cola to Pepsi Max.

Re: Allergies
The turkey thing is melotonin I always try to have a turkey sandwich when I feel kind of down.
I am starting to think the oposite about food. I wonder if there is something wrong with eggs, peanuts and shellfish (top three food allergies) that people's immune systems target them. Any thoughts on this or am I just being my nutty (or eggie old self again)?
1. Eggs aren't a "natural" think for humans to eat. It's not technically eating another animal and it's not a plant. People justify dairy problems the same way - that we're not "supposed" to drink cow milk.
2. Shellfish - ok, can you say "bottom feeder"?? Ew. Sorry, I find all shellfish (and other fish) thoroughly repulsive.
3. Nuts....hm, I don't know. Maybe people are allergic so that there are more of them for me to eat?

Oh no...I'm not allergic to nuts, but I am DEFINATELY allergic to people who are allergic to nuts. One nibble and I just swell up like a balloon!
I am, however, totally fine with Twizzlers and people who eat Twizzlers. Or give me Twizzlers. Oops, wait, we already ended this conversation, didn't we?

Re: Allergies
yeah, every time the weather changes, my nose gets all stiffy, my legs are too weak to walk, and usually stays home. It's not a cold. Impossible to get colds in Summer in Hong Kong.

I didn't know I was until one day, when out clubbing, I drank e-33 which has i think 7% alcohol content. (I think that's the name of the soda/alcholo thingie). The next day, I broke out in rashes all over.
Went to the doctor. And she even pitied me!! She told me that I have 2 solutions:
1) I could drink myself silly so that my body can be immune to alcohol
2) Stop drinking completely
Sigh. And I wasn't even drinking any hard liquor.
Anyway, whenever I go clubbing now, I usually just sip a little of those alcohol. Hell, I'd never really actually like drinking in the first place.
Re: Allergies
i can't imagine a life with out ice cream! my friend jenny is allergic to citric acid, which means she can not eat lots of fruits or juices with out getting hives. she also can't drink pepsi (coke's better anyway) because it has citric acid. one time we were at a cafe and she ordered coke and they brought her pepsi and she got really sick like 1/2 hour later.
