Amber's Chat Transcrips

Amber's chat was conducted in two parts due to her hectic work schedule on Joan of Arcadia. This first part takes place September 26th, 2003 - during the premiere of Joan of Arcadia on CBS.
<Ed Beam> so how does it feel to play in a show with like religious connections
Amber: Who said anything about religious connections? This is a show about God. Anything that would have to do with religious aspects would be that the family is in spiritual crisis.
Do you keep in touch with your former castmates from GH
Amber: Of course, I keep in touch - especially with Becky and Kimberly, and of course Stuart and Leslie...
and how is Jason doing (Jason Ritter, Amber's JOA co-star and son of actor John Ritter, who passed away September 11th, 2003.)
Amber: Jason is doing really well considering the circumstances; he is surrounded by people who love him.
um...if she could be a character in any movie ,past or present, what would it be? And also...who is the big bad wolf?:-P
Amber: Betty in Betty Blue - uhm, and the big bad wolf is a lie.
Does amber like JOA or GH? & why????
Amber: That's a broad question - that's too ambiguous to answer - I love both of them in different ways for different reasons.

Amber: If I had a friend like Joan, I probably wouldn't know what she's going through - but I'd love to have a friend like her.

Amber: Well, this is kind of a comedy. You mean a sitcom? Maybe someday.
<DonnaTheGreat> Hey Amber! You were amazing tonight on Joan of Arcadia!! We've missed you so much onscreen and it's so nice seeing a show that address the issues of a disabled young adult, being one myself. I have one question for you - what music have you been listening to lately?
Amber: I've been listening to alot of felonious monk - also a group called the Dead can Dance and I just bought a collection of Pete Sieger and Woody Guthrie, from the Smithsonian.
tinkerbellssssss: First I'd like to congratulate you on a great performance - you were amazing and I can't wait until next week. Are you enjoying yourself?
Amber: Am I enjoying myself? Yes, definitely, but the hours are really long - about 16 hour days, but it's all been worth it and I'm really enjoying it
<Catt23> Amber amazing job.. Do you think the perceptions of daytime actors have changed. And any future projects.
Amber: I hope so. Soaps are the greatest training ground for any actress or actor - and there are a few things in the works that my website will be the first to hear about.

<Cheri> Amber, you are an amazing actress. I watched you from your first day on GH to your last and saw how much you grew as an actress and a person. I was wondering what was your favorite storyline to play on GH and why?
Amber: Emily's mother - her death.
<Dan> Amber, you did an amazing job and I'm incredibly proud of you. Do you feel a lot of pressure from all the great buzz about you and the show? - Daniel
Amber: Definitely not! Because I'm working with Mary and Joe - they're very calm and focussed - they don't apply pressure... when you're working with folks like that it's alot easier - it's not so much nervousness as anticipation - we're very proud of our work.
kahateni] Hypothetically if you could as God a question what would it be?
Amber: Why he never decided to be a comedian.
(alc1781) 1. About how many pilots did you read and what made you choose Joan of Arcadia as opposed to another show? What drew you to this show?
Amber: There was actually a few shows that are on the air now that I was supposed to do that I turned down perhaps because of a higher power. Until I read this one which was very special - then I knew that this part is the one.
From Amy (alc1781) 2. You have been in a couple of dramas like CSI Miami and Without a Trace....Do you like doing dramas or would you ever choose to do a comedy?
Amber: I like comedies too - I like shows that encompass both qualities: drama and comedy.
From Kayley(KayleyHockeyFan) - 1-Amber, if you were in a movie, and you could pick any actor to play your love interest, who would you pick and why?
Amber: Jason Leigh - any dorky quirky actor.
question from Matt: If Amber could have Joan choose just one member of her family to tell that she is speaking to God, who would she tell and why?
Amber: That's a really good question <g> I haven't had that question from anyone anywhere before. Probably her father. Joan's got alot of deep feelings for her father - she's very close to her father.

Amber: No, but I do have friends from Norway, they're in a drum and bass group called Future Prophecies. Thankyou so much for all the complements and for waiting up for me.

Amber: I talk to Chad - I called him and wished him a Happy Birthday - obviously I could never come back because the character has been recast.
SydneyBristow007 (8:33:15 PM): Amber, i know this is quite soon, the pilot was amazing! Is there any talk for the end of the year for the season to come to dvd?
Amber: I'm sure they'll have the whole length season on dvd.
<maryjenn> Great show! If you could go back in time - what movie would you like to star in and why?
Amber: Casablanca or the Manchurian Candidate. Someone asked me if I would play Maria in West Side Story and I said "Absolutely not - Maria was a hispanic - they tried that already with Natalie Wood."
gpetro111: Is it true that Jonathan jackson is going to guest-star on Joan of Arcadia with you? I think that would be awesome!
Amber: I have not heard that. Where did they hear that? I think it's David Dorfman - the little kid in the Ring - will be guest starring in this episode we're shooting right now.
ChadBrannonFan1: Amber, if you could get any of your former castmates from GH to guest star on JOA as God who would you chose and why?
Amber: John Ingle would be really good - or Anna Lee

Amber: he's wonderful to work with - very very funny - and he's just like a brother to me.

Amber: I miss all of the cast. I miss the shorter hours <g>...that's pretty much it.
<staticradar> Hi Amber! Loving JoA. I really enjoy the scenes you share with jason ritter. The Joan/Kevin bond is so pure. What can we expect in the future with those scenes? Anything you can divulge?
Amber: There's a few things that come up. Joan sort of has a special relationship with him. I think because of Kevin's condition that that becomes the relationship with the biggest struggle. Which sort of makes for the best scenes sometimes.
<MarciaOSMFC> Hi Amber..its Marcia...Stephen's (Coltin Scott) Fanclub President. I just wanted to tell you that i love the show. and as for a question.... if you could have dinner with anyone from history...who would it be..and why?
Amber: Woody Guthrie - because I'm in love with him <g>. I think he was in one of the most interesting and active areas of human history.
<poonam13> hey amber, miss you on GH, my sis and i loved Juan/Em (only ones I think), JoA rocks! any funny stories from the set?
Amber: Jason Ritter is everyday a funny story. Everytime I walk into work, he manages to completely tip his wc over during a scene or make me laugh in some way. When we do family scenes, someone always ends up getting sick from eating too much (doing the scene over and over again) usually Jason, hence the term I feel like I'm wanting to Ritter, because Jason sort of started the trend of eating too much in the family scenes and getting sick from it.
<lyra> is it wierd going from working with mostly grownups at gh to working with kids more your age?
Amber: uhmmm, not really, I mean Jason is 22 or 23 and Michael is the youngest - just turned 16, but my friends are all 19 or 20 so it's not really much of a difference.
<krewlcin> this is really cool that you chat with your fans. thanks.....what hard issue would you like to act about that you havent already?
Amber: good question. I would like to know why Californians would believe anything that comes out of Arnold Schwarzenegger's mouth and why women would stand by him. It's sad for me as a woman to see that people don't pay attention to the real news. They don't look for real information, Arnold S is an actor, he's not an activist, I hope people will see through him on the final day. If we're talking hard issues of life, this is a hard issue for me. It's all connected, it's all relative.
<JoJoCorinthos> Amber, first off its great to have this chance to chat with you and thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule..my question is this...What is your favorite time of year, and why?
Amber: Thanks to everyone for coming out on a Friday night, I appreciate it. What is my favorite time of the year? Fall. Because it's one of the most beautiful time of the year, time for reflection and growth.
<Eva> Amber I just miss you SO much on "GH" I just LOVE ur new show it is DA Bomb! my mom & I love the new Show What do you think of the new "Emily"?? How do you do crying scenes?? Amber: Have I ever met Sarah Brown. Yes, I worked with her for five years <g>. It's not possible to answer how I do crying scenes, it's knowing yourself and knowing a bit of self-manipulation. I haven't been able to watch the new Emily yet. I just haven't had time.
<fowlela> I hope you arent offended by me saying JOA was surprisingly good I am not a big tv person but I am a huge fan of your poetry. I was wondering how does your writing process begin, I really dig your work. (I can't believe I just said dig.)
Amber: That's funny. We're in the same boat - I don't watch television either. The last tv show I watched religiously (no pun intended <g>) was Twin Peaks. I got started by a dear friend of my father's who's a close friend of mine, Jack Hirschman. He had me writing haikus when I was 8.
<Eddie> Hi Amber! Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with your fans! Your portrayal of Joan is wonderful! I know this is not an easy question to answer, but it is a reflective one: What characteristics about yourself define who you are?
Amber: OOOH, very good question. I guess I'd like to say that I'm a person who doesn't compromise my integrity creatively. I write honestly about what I feel and what I see and I don't censor that for anything or anyone. I believe strongly in family, and the power of a woman's voice.
<cherise> First "Amber" let me say that I enjoy your new show, If you could name one person who was most influential in your acting career who would you name?
Amber: My father hands down.
<Catt23> how much input do you have in regards to Joan. Also, minus Arnold S., how do u feel about the recall
Amber: I believe that the recall is wrong. That we're getting into dangerous territory when we get into political corners the way that we are right now as a state. You know I have about 50% of input for the character of Joan, it's really Barbara Hall's character and she writes it really well so that there's not a lot that I feel I have to change. Regarding the scenes, they give me 100% ability to give my input - they stand back and let me do my thing.

<Bubba_J> i dont get to see too much of the show becuase of what i do on friday nights (im a race car driver) but we do have a TV in the rig an i got to say your a goooooood actress , but my question is "How do you have time to keep good friendships with your scedule , i cant count the amount of close friends i've lost becuase of what i do , how do you manage , an do they understand????"i'm only 20 an lost every friend ive ever had , so i would
Amber: The friends that I've had for the longest are the people that are most important to me, they've all been my friends since kindergarten or before.

Amber: Well, that's a question for Valarie. Thank you very much - I appreciate the support. That is definitely one of my top ten places to visit soon. Ihaven't travelled around the US very much - I'm hoping that this will open the door to that.
<Alias007> amber, I read in this weeks "Teen Vogue" that you were on Days of Our Lives? Who did you play, when did you play her and tonight's show was awesome! can't wait to see the next episode! The music for the show is fantastic! I wanna know who sings the last song in tonight's eppy...is there a joan site that you are aware of that has what songs play during the episodes?... keep up the excellent work!
Amber: I was never on DOOL. I was on GH for seven years <g> Teen Vogue said that my father had done an episode of it. I haven't seen tonight's episode yet (going to the screening now) so I don't know.
Amber: Thank you for all of your support - it brings my confidence up to know that there are people around who have stuck by me for so long and I love you all. I'll talk to you again when I can. Thanks for coming!
