James, I own this book and I find it to be very comparitive to other books devoted to one particular soap and detailing their history. The author is the same one who wrote the Another World 35th anniversary book and the styles are quite similar. As noted somewhere else on the internet (though I forget where) there were a few factual discrepancies in the AW book (primarily placing some events into the wrong year grouping), so I suspect there might be similar mistakes with the ATWT book. However, I found it to be quite an informative read and a real keeper for fans of the soap opera genre. I currently have the ATWT, GL, AW, and Days books and eventually plan on getting the books for Y&R, B&B, AMC, OLTL, and GH so that I might have a complete set. LOL.
Is that. . .
the big Anniversary book? Guess it would have to be, don't know of any other ATWT books. I'm just too lazy to go into the other room & check!
Assuming it is the right book, I highly recommend it! I'm sure it has some mistakes (what book doesn't?) but it beats my memory! I love the book, it brings back my memories & clarifies them. It's great when ATWT shows classic episodes, so I can study up on the specific time period (even though I saw them originally, who remembers exactly what was going on in all plots?) & it's great for reading what happened before I was born. So far I haven't been able to prove that anything in there is incorrect. It's got great pics too.
Best of all it should be pretty cheap. Borders Books always has it on sale for a few bucks (I bought my copy cheap!) I wish the DOOL book was on sale!
Re: Is that. . .
Also, if you're looking for any now out of print anniversary books, check ebay. That's where I've gotten my Days, ATWT, and GL books and they were all in near mint condition and dirt cheep. The ATWT book was probably in the worst condition (no dust jacket), but the rest were nearly bookstore perfect. There are lots of finds to be found on ebay. Every so often you can even find ATWT eps from the 60s. I once saw for sale a tape of the ep of ATWT where Walter Cronkite broke into the broadcast with news of Kennedy's assasignation. Of course, that price got waaaaaaaay too step for me.
