Blues in the night
Denim is reinvented for the evening, with Marshall Field's holding the patent on the Glamorama shopping experience.

Give that party dress a rest. Denim is getting glammed up for evening.
The next chapter in the reign of designer denim is over-the-top embellishment — sequins, patchwork, embroidery, metallic pockets, chains, charms and even fur cuffs. Paired with open-toe metallic heels and a sexy camisole, you can even get away with glitzy jeans for the biggest fashion event of the summer, Marshall Field's Glamorama. If the idea of wearing denim to a charity gala seems uncouth, think of it this way: Starting at $250, these showy jeans cost as much as a ball gown.
But more than price, evening-inspired denim fits the rock opera theme of the Aug. 5 benefit. This year, for the first time, Field's has opened temporary "Glam Rocks Shops" at its Minneapolis and Ridgedale stores, filled with embellished denim and rocker-inspired merchandise for the whole family, from AC/DC baby onesies to leather cuffs and Ryan Seacrest's R Line shirts for men. Hard to believe it took the retailer more than a decade to cash in on the popular event.
