Board Slow?? Read here First
Board Slow?? Read here First
There are many reasons you could be experiencing slowness on your ezboard. When the slowness is an ezboard problem – you can count on us to be aware of the problem and working quickly to fix it. However, it is also common to have other, non-ezboard problems that will result in slowness. This topic will explain some of those other, non-ezboard causes and help you to diagnosis it.
Questions to think about when the board is slow:
1) Are all boards slow for you or just one?
2) If more than one board is slow – are they on the same server?
3) Is the board slow for others as well? Make sure to ask.
4) Are other, non-ezboard websites slow for you as well?
5)Is the board slow for you at about the same time each day, and then fast at other times of day?
6) What particular part of the board loads last? Do the images load?
Reasons for non-ezboard Slowness:
1. It could be your ISP or your connection. Depending on your ISP, sometimes at peak hours of the day when more people are using the internet, your connection may slow down. If you experience intermittent slowness on many boards, and other users do not experience slowness at the same time, it could be your ISP.
Or if other users are feeling the slowness, ask if they are the same geographical area, or are using the same ISP. Also if the board is a geographically oriented board, where most of the members live in the same area (e.g. a high school board, a soccer-team board), all (or most) of the members might be using the same ISP and experiencing the same slowdown, so it could still be your ISP.
2. There may be something on the board that is loading slowly. If the board has lots of images, large ones, and you are on dial up, the board will probably load slowly for you.
If the board is using remotely linked images, style sheets, or scripts (e.g., a news feeder, a sports or stock ticker, falling snowflakes etc.) and the host server for those files is down or running slow, that will cause the board to load slowly for all viewers.
If you are using Firefox, you can look at the status bar to see what the browser may be waiting on.
3. It may be some faulty code on a particular board. Some ezboards really like to pile on the customizations and mistakes in the coding can cause slowdowns. If this is the only board on that server that is slow – make sure to check on this one. Bad coding and remotely linked scripts and images are the main cause for slowness.
Also code in the wrong box can cause problems. Insert CSS into the first box, HTML into the 3rd and 4th boxes and JavaScript into the 4th box. The 3rd box is for HTML you want to be displayed on the top of the board and the 4th is for HTML you want to be displayed at the bottom. The second box is used very rarely.
4. Have you installed any new software on your computer lately, such as a new virus-scanning program or a firewall, which might be taking extra time to look at what's being downloaded?
If none of these things ring true for you – please post your ezboard URL in the support forums for us to check out. But before doing that – please check the Important Announcements forum for Server Updates or Software Upgrades. p080.ezboard.com/fezboard...ouncements

REMOVE ALL OF YOUR ADVANCED CUSTOMIZATION AND THEN TEST THE SPEED OF THE BOARD.
99% OF THE TIME, YOUR BOARD WILL BE SLOW B/C OF SOMETHING IN YOUR ADVANCED CUSTOMIZATION

Re: Board Slow?? Read here First
from user rayna1:
I'd like to add a recent solution I found to my problem of all my
ezboard pages (boards, community center, help section, login,
everything!) all loading extremely slowly for about the last month.
I recently renewed my annual subscription for Trend Micro's Pc-cillin
Internet Security virus scan, which is at .www.antivirus.com.
After much testing, rebooting, and retesting, it appears that some of
their new features caused my ezboard problems.
Specifically, I had to disable BOTH of these features under the
"Internet Security Status" area, for ezboard to go back to it's usual
speedy self......
URL Filter
Data Privacy Protection
I did not have any entries under "URL filter", it was simply checked
"enabled".
And the "Privacy Data Protection" includes options for name, credit
card number, login name, and login password, but rather then remove
specific ones, I went ahead and turned the entire thing off. In view
of the slowness of my CABLE MODEM connection with it "enabled", I
wouldn't want it on while trying to do most anything else anyway.
Since this version of Pc-cillin is brand new, I figured I'd post my
solution here, in case others are encountering problems as well.

If you are using sitemeter and are now experiencing board slowness, it could be sitemeter. Try removing it to see if the board speeds up.
I received this information from a user via PM
Quote: It could be this. Some ezboards use the javascript version of sitemeter. Since about 20 march sitemeter has been creating an invisible script to specificclick.net and sending specificclick cookies onto sites that have the java version of the counter. This has made those sites very slow to load. The blog world is alive with reports of this and another counter service has reported they were first approached by specificmedia but they refused the offer. Another problem is that users on ez may think that the specificclick spyware is coming from ezboard. If a site reports slow or downtime and they have the java sitemeter, it is a good idea to replace it with the HTML version (no cookies) or else another stats analyzer. Statcounter is one that has publically stated it will never send cookies or spyware onto sites hosting it. On sitemeter, not just the free version but the upgraded pay service version has got tied in with specificclick.
I check a page with that counter and then check my temp files and see I was viewing the page through an script at specificclick. That is MORE than a cookie.

One more thing to check.
Do you have Who's Online turned on?
Try turning it off to see if speeds improve.
We have found that when a large number of members are at the board at one time, having Who's Online turned on can slow down the board. Some of the largest boards have found that they have to temporarily turn this feature off during peak times (for example Thursday nights for Survivor boards, draft day for sports boards)
