Breeding cage Hello again. I have a cage 45cm wide x 33cm deep x 54cm high. At the moment i have two budgies in there but moving them to a larger cage for breeding. Would the cage i just gave the measurments to you be big enough to breed a pair of masked lovebirds in? Or would it be to small and have to have them put in a aviary? |

Re: OK
that is a little too small for lovebird breeding.
I would reccommend something at least 30X18X18 inches approx 76X46X46 cm. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading. --Henny Youngman |

Re: OK what size is it exactally? I'm not trying to put down your pet shop people but sometimes they sell cages that are far far far too small for the right birds. You should see some of the cages they say are fit for budgies? Christa |

cage Size The size of thye cage is 26 inches wide, 8 inches high, 12 inches deep. I just have a question about the cage. At the moment all they seem to be doing is sitting on top of the nest. And the only time they actually look interested in the nest is when it is 3:00 or 4:00pm. I think it might be that they arn't interested in it is because it has just started winter in NSW Australia and that is when they stop nesting until spring. Can anyone give me any advise on my question and tell me if my breeding cage is big enough for my lovebirds? |

Re: cage Size that still sounds small- thats the exact size I had for my first budgie before I upgraded cages. If you wanna breed lovies I suggest a cage no smaller than say 42" all the way around or at least very very close. Theyre probally sitting on top of the box because theres not that mcuh room to go anywhere else in the cage. I'd seriously go and talk to the pet store owners that they ill advised you on cage size. And see if they'll cut you a deal on another cage. If you get a bigger cage it will take them awhile to actually go into the nest mine dont go in thier nest and I've had them over 6 months now. Takes time for them to get comfortable in thier surroundings. Also have hey been DNA tested to prove they are male and female. Where did you buy them. christa |

Re: cage Size WOW!!! I thought that would be sutable cage for atleast lovebirds thanks for that i will try to talk to them about the cage. I may have of read it wrong but did you say 42 inches! That is over a metre for all the way around. And no i haven't had them DNA tested but the person i bought them off ( friend) had already had several clutch's with them so they would of nah to of been male and female for that to happen Also i thought that would probally be the problem with them sitting on top of the nest. I'm not despirate for them to breed because i have another pair in my aviary. And they will have cool colours in their babies because the hen is a Albino with a twinsy bit of dark blues on her body and the cock has a brown face, yellow neck green and yellow wings, (mainly yellow) and red beak. So i can't wait for their chicks. If that discription wasn't very clear can you send me an email at assiss111@hotmail.com and tell me your email and i'll post some of my pictures or if you don't want to give your email to me could you please just tell me how to post pictures in this forum. Re: cage Size Hey they sound really pretty. I have a dutch blue male and a little pied peach face female theyre only 6 months and a pair of peach faces split to orange face. If you wanna post pictures on here you need to upload pictures to a picture hosting site. photoisland.com is a good one (you just open the exact picture you want to post and then in the bottom left cornor theres a button that says link for auctions- click that- another window will open and it will give you the code... copy that code... **** then in your post to the left of your post theres a button that says image if you hit that a another little box appears and then you put the first code from photoisland in the spot in the box and then it will put the picture in the post) or you can upload them to the TF pet image gallery and then do the same. If you have problems just ask My lovies cage is one cage that I divided into 2 cages (the adults bickered with the babies so I put in a divider) each section is 3' wide ....2' deep and about 2 1/2' tall. As a hole it was 6' tall...2' deep and 3' wide. I bought it from a lady who had a pair of lovies in it. Because you are breeding the lovies will spend most of thier time in the cage- they need enough room to have toys- the nest box- dishes for food/water- and enough room to kinda fly about comfortably. If you were stuck in a cage for some time you'd want the most room you can have. My motto with cages is the biggest cage you can afford the better. My cage is homemade. Its huge a real parrot cage that size would have cost me a fortune- and I know how expensive cages can be. Its wallet murder. www.africanlovebirdsociety.com/breeding/cages.htm I can send you pictures of my cage and set up if you'd like- I dont have any recent pictures taken.. and since I'm not really interested in breeding- if it happens it happens- I keep an all day open door system with my cages. They have a tree outfront of the cage (bunch of bird safe brances with toys, ropes and dishes on it) that is thier play area- I'm a stay at home mom so I'm around them all day long. But they only go into the cages to sleep at night. okay I'm finding some links to help you with cage sizes... good luck www.upatsix.com/faq/lvbrdfaq.htm#CAGES www.ellen-parrots.com/Lovebirdinfo.html www.geocities.com/alfpsv/CareandBreedingofLovebirds.html www.lovebirdcenter.com/3cages.htm second_hand_roses @ hotmail.com Christa |

The website Sorry, I just can't do it. I was on the computer for nearly an hour trying to figure out what you said to get a photo on this site but i can't do it... It's annoying the hell out of me Sorry for being so frustrated but i am. I'm sorry i have to say this but can you PLEASE tell me how to do it again. Now if you listen carefully i think you might know what i am saying so you can tell it to me a little bit more easier. Firstly, what do you mean by (you just open the exact picture you want to post) i'm not trying to get up you or criticize how bad are at explaining which with this would be hard but can you tell me what do i go to to get the exact picture that i want. And can you tell me if i have to sign up or not because i already had. But thanks for that site. I think it is great for something like this to store all my photos in. Because i really want to show my lovely pictures of my birds. Now i may not have of checked yet but i sent the pic's of my lovies and my tiels for you. Thanks heaps Mitch F |

Re: Breeding cage
Could you just upload them on Tailfeathers Gallery? You will have to sign up again but I think you can use the same username you have now. If you cant, you can use www.photobucket.com (which is what I use), upload pics there and give us the link. GL.
