Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Well, considering I wouldn't even be a fan of these books if not for James Marsters, whom I first saw on BtVS, I figured I should have a thread here for BtVS discussion.
Not to have this take over the board, but b/c a lot of new (and some older) Dresden fans are also BtVS fans -
So - Spike just rocks - and, well, we'll see what happens from here.
Hidy! I made it here and I'll read the books soon I promise...question thought since this is a Buffy area here and I at least have a working knowledge of that show...
How does everyone feel about souled Spike?
Pippin: What about breakfast?
Aragorn: You've already had it.
Pippin: We've had one, yes. What about second breakfast?
Merry: I don't think he knows about second breakfast, Pip.
Pippin: What about elevenses? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper? He knows about them, doesn't he?
Merry: I wouldn't count on it.
Re: Buffy The Vampire Slayer
At this point I'd say I'm enjoying souled Spike more than I thought I was going to. *Shrugs.*

John Grant (on becoming a cop):"I figured I could make a difference, help some people, and I was damn good at it." Profiler ep. Film at Eleven
Re: Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Hot dang, I'm a spoiler ho you know, so it is very difficult to keep spoilers out of the equation *bites tongue furiously* What classes as a spoiler though? A lot of the world are still early in S7, we lag behind you folks in the US.
Am I allowed to say that I think at this point the writers have missed an amazing opportunity to explore the whole soul issue, what it has really meant to him and how other characters might view or relate to Spike now. We've really got a mega game of Kick the Spike going on til mid season; things changing now thankfully. There are only so many scenes of semi-naked, abused Spike you can take without feeling that he, and James, and us are being used!
Btw, I was a BtVS fan first, then James, then Harry! Lol!

Re: Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Heh - I kinda got smacked w/ 'em all at the same time - James sang in OMWF - and caught me - so, I was fan of JM the actor and muscian all at once - the later heard he was doing the audiobook - jumped on that - hooked on Harry ever since!
Anyway -- um - as far as BtVS goes - as of today - 3/12/03 - we're up to "Storyteller" - ep 7.16 (I think) -- we get a new ep 3/25/03 --
So - depending on where you are in the season, would determine your spoiler status -
me - I'm 'no spoilers' for this whole season! i've done very well too - very proud of me!
Um - Souled Spike - yeah - they've missed a great opportunity - but, with Spike, they always do - grr argh --
Here's hoping that he's in the spin-off (if they do one) and that they explore him more there, instead of focusing on the 'lead girl' like they have in Buffy --- (that's why I feel Buffy's starting to 'falter' - they're focusing so much on her, she's been developed to 'death' - and there's nothing left to do with her - she has nowhere left to go - but that's just me)
Re: Buffy The Vampire Slayer
I wish I could stop myself, but I am spoiled about as far as you can be..... which is snippets of info about eps up to the penultimate one. It's like rooting for truffles, I get down in the dirt and dig for all I'm worth!! But on some levels I long for the innocent heady days pre-computer (my computer I mean, not before the birth of technology, LMAO!). I have been with BtVS since day one and was blissfully spoiler free for five seasons - everything was shiny and new and a surprise. Gawd, the impact of Angelus offing Jenny!! I sat gaping for minutes... and cried along with the girls at the end when they got the phonecall... Spoilers DO spoil it to a certain extent, so remain pure!!
Did you see Marti's comments re Spike this season? Made me scream with rage and frustration! What are they DOING??!!
"If there's anything I'm disappointed with this year, it's that we didn't figure out how to better utilize James Marsters as Spike earlier on. Spike is such a strong character and at a certain point we all realized, "He's been down in that basement acting crazy for quite a while. It's time we got him out of there". It would have been nice if he could have done more at the start of the season, but we've tried to make up for that in recent episodes." Edited by: PokerKitten at: 3/13/03 6:26:36 am

Re: Buffy The Vampire Slayer
When did she say that? grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr - not too mention - um HELLO! Why didn't they REALIZE that back in S4? James has been strong as Spike since they put him on the show - well, w/ the exception of some stupid stuff they did in S2 b/c they had to squeeze him in after they realized what a god-send he was...
Sorry, but sometimes I think they just don't get it -- *sigh*
What were they thinking? "Oh - we'll just keep Spike in the basement until we figure out what to *really* do with him. But what should that be?"
Don't they plan out the character arcs BEFORE they start writing the episodes?? grrr argh ---
Re: Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Yes, once upon a time they did.... but look how they have been saying they only decided who Wood really was part way through the season. And look what they did - or didn't do - with Spike's best mate Clem... popularity made them bring him back, but what, no acknowledgement at all from either of them??!! But bigs hugs for the Slayer?? Excuse me?? I know more but... *biting tongue*
I thought everything they did with Spike in S2 was great - already developing his character into someone more complex, when they decided to bring him back. Spike humbled and vengeful in the chair was a masterstroke. The dynamics between him, Dru and Angelus were terrific. And a fabulous moment when he got out of it and gave it a damned good kicking! I still cheer everytime I see it! As someone who has to use one on occasion I totally know where he is coming from! This is my fave season so I have lots of examples, but I shall spare you!

Re: Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Oh, I rather like what they did in S2 - and I'd probably like it even better if I'd been a fan from the beginning - then again - maybe not - who knows --
Anyway - I just wish that in S4 - when they decided to keep him around - they had come up w/ a good solid story for him, aside from moping around trying to find stupid ways to muck up the Slayer's plans then they squeezed in that bit with Adam at the end - like they got toward the end of the season and said 'whoops! we forgot about Spike!' - so they stuffed him in -- ugh -
S5? Oh man what a bunch o' stupid story stuff -- lots of 'smack you in the face w/ a topic' episodes - Spike dreams one night that he's in love with the Slayer? and then acts on it for the rest of the season? what was that? um - not-so-subtle-at-all much? Then in Crush - Dawn's got an all-of-a-sudden thing for Spike that is never spoken of again? I think someone forgot to take his/her continuity pills! ACK! S5 drove me crazy with little stuff like that -- argh!!
Re: Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Oops.... I rather like S5, because of the maturity of the writing, and in relation to Spike, how they were teasing out more and more of his character that had only been hinted at - but was def there - from the word go.
As for suddenly waking up from a dream of being in love with Buffy and so WHAM, he WAS in love with Buffy.... erm, well, some of my own dreams have been foreshadowing future events or telling me stuff about certain people Didn't mean to say it was good for me to act on them but hey, you gotta take risks now and again! Lol! Spikey has always had a thing for slayers, and always been in love with love and an obsessive personality... so I was quite okay with the "revelation" that he had fallen for Buff (I'm not any sort of shipper, btw, so no vested interest there!)
And I often think - with a sniffle of sadness - that the series really should have ended at the close of S5.....
Anyone have any idea how "spike" will get introduce in Angel???... I know that Cordelia is not coming back and that Spike will be sort of a "regular" on Angel, but with the tense relation between the two, I just wonder how or should I say.. why... angel will need spike ????
Won't you come and dance with the Beautiful Death?

Re: Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Don't know how Spike's gonna show up on Angel -- neither does JM from what I've read. Heck, Joss probably hasn't even figured it out yet!
And - I dont' wanna know! Hehe -- I've gone spoiler-free for the duration of Angel (yeah, I'll do it too!) -- no more spoilers for me!
Although, since I either mod or admin on so many boards, I'm probably gonna run into a few - I don't mind, I just prefer to NOT have 'em ---- shows are better w/o spoilers -- I've watched 'em both ways and prefer spoiler free --
anyway -- feel free to speculate how you think he'll be back - that's always fun!
