Discussion: Your favorite parts of the books.

Faramir... oh, that got me, too. That part in Ithilien at Heneth Anun is my most favorite part of the book and..(Well, I might be biased there. I am sure everyone is missing some favorite scene)
So... What's your favorite part? You can choose one scene of each book: FOTR, TTT and ROTK.

One scene from each book? Okay, here it goes:

FOTR:
The scene at the Prancing Pony, because I love Barliman, and the tension, the song, the mess, and how the Hobbits meet Aragorn. It's the intoduction of the character Aragorn, and we already get a hint of his idendity, although it's not fully explained, which adds a bit of mystery. The place I like especially is:
"I see," laughed Strider. "I look foul and feel fair. Is that it? All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost."
"Did the verses aplly to you then?" asked Frodo. "I would not make out what they were about. But how did you know that they were in Gandalf's letter, if you have never seen it?"
"I did not know," he answered. "But I am Aragorn, and those verses go with that name."

TTT:
The scene when the Rohirrim with Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli arrive at Isengard. It's just such a nice scene, with the joy of seeing them again. Gimli especially:
"And what about your companions? What about Legolas and me?" cried Gimli, unable to contain himself longer. "You rascals, you woolly-footed and wool-pated truants! A fne hunt you have let us! Two hundred leagues, through fen and forest, battle and death, to rescue you! And here we find you feasting and idling - and smoking! Where did you come by the weed, you villains? Hammer and tongs! I am so torn between rage and joy, that if I do not burst, it will be a marvel!"

ROTK:
The whole scene at Heneth Anun, with all the conversation, Faramir's moment of temptation... just everything. It's far too much to type it all out here. That is my favorite from all the three books.

How neat! From FOTR and ROTK you named the same favorite scenes as I would have, Andranneth.

For TTT it's a harder choice. I love the scene you mention, but I also love when the three hunters first run into Eomer and his riders. There is wonderful tension at first, but then we start getting a wider sense of Eomer's personality. I love the way he, Gimli, and Legolas became friends.

FOTR:

The hobbits' meeting with Gildor and his companions; I felt like Sam, babbling at the sight of the elves :) And as if a new world had been revealed to me. Indeed, it was :)

O Elbereth! Gilthoniel!
We still remember, we who dwell
In this far land beneath the trees,
Thy starlight on the Western Seas.

The song ended. ‘These are High Elves! They spoke the name of Elbereth!’ said Frodo in amazement, ‘Few of that fairest folk are ever seen in the Shire. Not many now remain in Middle-earth, east of the Great Sea. This is indeed a strange chance!’

TTT:

The Henneth Annûn scene (in my book, it is in TTT, not in ROTK) ;) I fell down before Faramir's nobleness.

Sam hesitated for a moment, then bowing very low: `Good night, Captain, my lord,' he said. `You took the chance, sir.'
`Did I so?' said Faramir.
`Yes sir, and showed your quality: the very highest.'
[...]`Ah well, sir,' said Sam, `you said my master had an elvish air and that was good and true. But I can say this: you have an air too, sir, that reminds me of, of – well, Gandalf, of wizards.
'Maybe,' said Faramir. `Maybe you discern from far away the air of Númenor. Good night!'

ROTK:

The end. Because it made me weep (literally) and I was sad for days and days. Ok, I was a child... But it still causes the same effect now that I'm a (supposedly :P) grown man:

Then Frodo kissed Merry and Pippin, and last of all Sam, and went aboard; and the sails were drawn up, and the wind blew, and slowly the ship slipped away down the long grey firth; and the light of the glass of Galadriel that Frodo bore glimmered and was lost. And the ship went out into the High Sea and passed on into the West, until at last on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a far green country under a swift sunrise.

Holy, I *was* half asleep when posting that, but I didn't think I was *that* asleep. Does anyone have a spare brain that he might lend me?

In FotR, I like Frodo escaping accross the Brandywine, leaving the black rider on the other side.

In TTT I like when the riders of Rohan are amazed at how far the trio have come on foot.

In RotK - Frodo and Sam's trip from Durthang to Udûn with a troop of orcs.

I might lend you half of the cell brain I have left; the other half, I need it to find my way to bed :|
