Down on the Farm - dead plants
Not all dead looking plants are dead and harmless. Twigs, branches even roots are proving to be.... well.... hazardous. As in big red blotchy puffy and incrediblky itchy areas on one's body.
Otherwise known as poison oak.
So our very nice Mother's Day weekend was spent in twitching itching agony trying every known lotion, potion and wash. Tecnu is the best so far. And a couple of hours at the urgen care center where one lucky doctor got a 2-fer-one.
And we got prednisone pills.
So we itch, change and wash everything we touch/sleep on and in and generally get very little sleep.
Re: Down on the Farm - dead plants
Oh man Maui, I feel for ya sis. I just hope you weren't using it for toilet paper or anything like that! (A character did on Grey's Anatomy if I recall correctly!) owwwwwie! There is supposed to be some oil to bathe in, I'll look it up and post again. Hang in there!
***OK, here is what I found as suggestions to try for some relief:
Take 3 to 8 thousand mg of Vitamin C daily.
Topically apply aloe vera gel, or tea tree oil, or witch hazel.
Make a compress of Burrow's solution (from drugstore) and water at a 1:15 ratio.
Soak in Aveeno and a cool bath.
For itch relief, make a paste of water, cornstarch, baking soda and epsom salts (or oatmeal if skin is too sensitive).
Topically apply aloe vera jiuce, tofu, or watermelon rind for a cooling effect.
Re: Down on the Farm - dead plants
Thank you for all the suggestions, Malinae.
Mr. Mauie had to drag a stump over to the wood pile with his bare hands (so manly). He did shower afterwards, but that just spread the poison ivy luvin all over him. A left side snuggly passed it to me. I look kinda like that Star Trek episode where people were half one color and half another. I am very thankful that my version is not total download like Mr. Mauie's.
We are now on prednisone (bleh! nasty tasting stuff!), And we are using TecNu soap and lotion which seems to be helping. We are using Sea Plasma for the dry itchies and that helps.
We tried Aveeno concentrated lotion and the poison ivy liked it. A lot. Seemed like we got more and more outbreaks using the lotion. Go figure.
I will get some of the items for a nice bath soak and try that as plain water burns.
And just to top this all off, I was injured at work. A box tilted over onto my left foot and smooshed a couple of bones. Now I can limp and itch at the same time. So talented!!
And I HEARD all your laughing and snickering, Perone. C'mere, so I can touch ya. Brat!
Re: Down on the Farm - dead plants
brat! bah ha ha ha.........
all kidding aside, i hope you two feel better, and with yalls luck i don't want either of you anywhere near me. my lucks sucks as it is, i sure don't need yall's rubbin' off on me too.
Re: Down on the Farm - dead plants
your jar would have to be a 55 gallon drum. I'm a Texas barbarian darlin'..........................
burnt? yall got burnt on top of the itch? maybe yall should live in a bubble, we could fed ex food n stuff. obviously you both pissed mother nature off some time in the past and it would be best to lay low..........for a decade.
Re: Down on the Farm - dead plants
Beginning to feel lots better. That Prednisone is strong stuff. Nasty. Made it through the headaches and nausea!! The anti-itch lotions burn, so stopped using those as it seemed to add to the itching.
So I did a lil alchemy and mixed up a potion - vitamin C powder, vitamin e oil, apricot kernal oil, avacado oil, sesame oil, lil olive oil and whatever I have in my stash and mixed together. Much like a salad dressing.
The lotion and a thick terry bathrobe, sweatpants and many socks on hands and feet tamed the burning and the itching. Hair looks great from all the oil treatments!!
The rest is up to Perone's saucy imagination.
Gwacker and I are back at work which is more of a relief from being in a rotten mood stuck with another person in a rotten mood. And watching him itch and scratch.
Re: Down on the Farm - dead plants
Ha! I beat that barbarian dude.
My cat always has great fur if I give him oil.
I'm thinking what would EQ be like if they had areas where you wandered through and you got a long lasting low damage dot that made you itch. Maybe made your charisma and intelligence go down.
Re: Down on the Farm - dead plants
Morro! You ARE bad, mister! I think the effect you mention would be comparable to wading through lava? Minus the screaming, thrashing, and flailing arms your toon does. Now wait a minute, that may be entirely appropriate given Maui's descriptions, poor gal!
Re: Down on the Farm - dead plants
That...................Is a whole crap load of oils. What kinda woman has that many different kinds of oils on hand? and all edible. Mr. M is the luckiest dude on the planet. /e takes an knee in respect to Mr. M's skillz! /sigh Big P will have his own pristine oily barbarian one day...............................
for the realz, I hope yall are feeling better, I wouldn't wish that mess on anyone.............well, other than both my x wives. /e ponders maybe having mauel send some dried leaves
I am a shaman, remember? I have all types of oils, ingredients, herbs. I will be researching ointments for poison oak now given recent experiences.
and Mr. Mauie is spoiled, @#%$-rotten as a result.
I do need to get the poison oak off my property, so send me your address. I just want it gone. Never trust the selling agent when you ask if there is poison oak on the proprty.
