EBOOKS
About three years ago I decided that not going after my dreams was just a waste of my life. Pursueing publication, of course, wasn't an easy decision but with a push or two, I went ahead and submitted my first novella.
That first publication was huge-- just a great moment for me. True, it was in ebook format and there are those that look down on epublishing. I don't think I understood how little people regard epublishing until recently. I read an interview with an agent who represents some fairly popular authors who said that ebooks would never be a robust market and that it would always be "miniscule" in the scheme of things.
I think it's probably the worst thing I've heard said about ebooks. Not only because it's simply not true, but also because it devalues the work I've done and the work of other authors who publish eBooks.
I have a book in print-- will have 3 by the end of my deal with Kensington. I really enjoy seeing my book in print and in the bookstore. However, I find as much as satisfaction from my ebooks as I do my print work.
We have a generation of readers coming up in the world that is so different from the generation I come from. The class of 2014 will see the world so differently than we do. They've never lived in a world without Internet, Instant Messengers, Chat, and Email. They wouldn't know how to function without their cellphone, handheld, or laptop. They are a generation of technology and they will embrace eBooks with everything they are because they'll be under the impression that if they can't get it digitally-- they really don't need it.
Hurry up and grow up guys-- we're all waiting for you!
I agree. I don't understand why some people need to look down on ebooks. It just doesn't make sense, the quality's there too. Just like in traditional books.
Oh, and you're SO right! The current generation of kids don't know what it's like to live without the internet and everything else. So, they'll probably embrace it.
