Early American Foundation Arabian Horses
The Early American Foundation (EAF) Arabian horses are related 100% to those horses registered in AHR Stud Book Vol. V (registration nos. 1-2924). These bloodlines are the tried and true performance athletes of the Arabian horse world.

The Arabian horses initially imported into the US and those that were bred in the US by and before 1944 were athletic individuals with balance, excellent substance, good minds, willing dispositions, versatility and trainability plus beauty and grace. The EAF Arabian horses were known for reliability and can-do-ability.

In 2000, the American Foundation Arabian Horse Association (AFAHA) was formed to Preserve and Promote the bloodlines of EAF Arabian horses which are alive and well today. These bloodlines include famous and reputable breeding programs such as Donoghue, Payne, Doyle, Lewisfield, Kellogg, Selby, Davenport, Babson, Al-Marah, Draper, Huntington, Brown, Ramsdell, Shalimar and Harris, to name a few.

In addition to recognition of EAF Arabian horses, AFAHA provided a designation for American Foundation Arabian horses (AF) who's bloodlines trace 100% to those horses registered in AHR Stud Book Vols. 1-10 (registration nos. 1-16015). These bloodlines were existing in the US by and before 1960.

AFAHA desires to Preserve and Promote the EAF and AF bloodlines. So valuable are the EAF and AF bloodlines, that AFAHA encourages breeders to strive for a majority of EAF and AF blood in their breeding programs. Thus, the designation of American Foundation-Bred was made. The AFB horses trace 75% or more to American Foundation.

A shining example of an EAF Arabian horse is found in *Zarife who is EAF, SBV, Al Khamsa, Heirloom, Sheykh Obeyd and Straight Egyptian.
