Girl With A Pearl Earring - THE BEST BOOK EVER
I am NOT exaggerating. It is honestly the best book I have ever, ever, ever, ever read.. or ever will read. YOU MUST PICK THIS BOOK UP!! Tracy Chevalier is a GENIUS!!!
I go to www.GirlWithAPearlEarringMovie.com and just stare at the computer screen... those two beautiful faces! MMMM! I can NOT WAIT to see the movie. GWAPE is my favorite book, and I know it'll be my favorite movie.
YOU MUST READ IT!!! LOL!! I read it in two wonderful days, lol. It went by way too fast.
I know I could list many upon many reasons why The Lord of the Rings is my fave book and movie(s). In my mind NOTHING will ever compete with LOTR but that is JMO. I'd like to know what it is about this book that has you so intrigued. You and I have many of the same interests Brittany, so most likely I'll like this too. But tell us more, I'd certainly like to know.
I think we should make this a regular thing on the board. People sharing things that they really enjoy. We all know we have one thing in common, our love of Nathaniel, but there must be other things too.

Ooh yes we both love our LOTR, NM and baseball, so I have a feeling you'll share my love of GWAPE too.
It's about the painter Vermeer, and Tracy Chevalier's fictional fantasy of why he chose to paint the girl with a pearl earring. He's married to Catharina (they have, like, 100 kids) but he finds himself strangely attracted to Griet. And she likes him too. There's a really hot moment where he has to put an earring through her ear, and it's just really, really intense.
And Griet's father is blind so she has to try and explain the way Vermeer's paintings look to him each Sunday (she only gets to visit her family on Sunday's, because she lives with Vermeer and his family.. she's their maid). But she doesn't want her parents to know how much she cares for her master.
I'm not really big on reading but...
I might check it out, when I finish reading LOTR again. It's coming out on movie though right? I might be more likely to see the movie and then read the book if I like it enough. LOTR is actually one of the few times where I read the book before seeing the movie. and usually I don't read the book at all. But maybe I'll make an exception this time, we'll see.

I'm not too big on reading either.. there are VERY VERY few books I'll actually recommend. I think it might be a good idea for you to watch the movie when it comes out... after you see the movie, you might want to read the book. (Kind of backwards, but..) I'm wanting to go see the movie ASAP!

You're right it is kinda backwards seeing a movie before reading the book but that's what i'm more likely to do. Most of the time I just seem to understand a story better when seeing the movie first. Then if I really enjoy the story and I know there's a book then I'd enjoy and understand the book a lot more than if I read the book first. It's something that I'm really realizing while reading LOTR again since that is one of few exceptions that I've actually read the book before seeing the movies. I'm noticing that I'm taking in the the stuff in the book a lot better now after seeing the movie, even the stuff that's not in the movie. but I also read the book before too and LOTR is a story that you should read/see more than once to throughly understand the story, so I don't know. Though, I do think that seeing the movie first will benefit me more. When does the movie for GWAPE come out anyways?

Thanks for review of this. I have been anxious for this movie to come out (love Colin Firth ) now I am anxious to read the book. I think I may wait until after the movie though because sometimes if I read the book first, I am disappointed by the film. I guess I expect too much from the film.
