Goodbye Al
Al Holden is so much a part of me... through fiction, I have lived another life with him... he took me places when I needed to go somewhere, and Nathaniel made him so real... I cared enough about that fictional boy to be inspired to write my first real fan fiction (aside from the stuff I'm embarrassed by) and though I'm following his journey to Michael, and can't help but sense his soul moving on thankfully... all those memories... wow. I'll miss that sweet boy. But Nathaniel is well suited for the character of Michael, and that's a good thing. And I'll never forget we almost lost this talent on our show....
I agree, that was beautiful...and my thoughts
For me losing Al feels bittersweet. Looking at the big picture I know that playing Michael will be the best thing for NM to do now. But the sadness of losing such a beloved character is still there.
Al was the first character on this show that I really poured my heart into, the first that I especially cared about, particularly through his wonderful connection with Marcie. I've been watching this show full time now since at least as far back as high school(which since I'm only 22 isn't all that long) and at least partially watched the show for a few years before that but never once did anyone of the show stick out to me like Al did. I laughed when the scenes were funny, I cried when the scenes were sad, I got mad a characters when they did stupid things but never did I feel myself seriously caring what was gonna happen next, I cared to a point but that was it. But then those drug intervention scenes happened and I found myself saying, Wow!! I'm really feeling what's happening with these characters. I can't wait to see what's gonna happen in this SL next. and I found myself missing Al and Marcie and everything about them when they weren't on. and even though it was Marcal that seriously pulled me in, I came to love everything about his life both Marcie-related and not Marcie-related. Perhaps I had more involved with this character before I even realized it but it was those scenes where everything just clicked for me and shortly after I knew that I was hooked and there was no going back.
A big part in me falling so hard for this character was what Nathaniel brought to the role. He completely made this character his own and I have come to love and respect the man behind the role even more each day. and I know that the best thing is to say goodbye to this character that I have loved because this new path and character will allow Nathaniel to further extend his acting wings and really be able to show us what he's made of. and for that reason I am excited for this new direction.

Congrats to The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, as well as, the director Peter Jackson for their Golden Globe wins. This was 3 years in the making. Bring on the Oscars, and LOTR's 11 noms.Edited by: whitetigergirl81 at: 2/15/04 10:59 pm
Re: Beautiful!!
I agree Britt. I rather have him on the show as any character than lose him. He's a great actor and person. And I'm happy for him. I guess we all better get prepared for our new journey.
Re: Beautiful!!
It's refreshing to read that an actor and character was able to evoke so much emotion from us. Most characters it seem barely scratch the surface of emotions, but Nathaniel really has the ability. I didn't get to see his portrayl of Al the first time around, but I still feel the loss. I am anxious to see him spread his wings as Michael, and make me fall in love with all over again.
Re: Beautiful!!
ITA with you all that nathaniel is what made the character of al so touching- he ahd such a hold on him and his acting was inspirational-- i totally look forward to seeing whatever he decides to bring to his new character of micheal- i feel that I will soon love the new character of micheal( heck_ i already am a fan with just the little we have already seen) i think that nathaniel will " spread his wings and FLY!!!!!"- and i can't wait!!! feel we are blessed to still have him around and for him to still be paired with Kathy-- THAt is just awesome!! I am strapped in and ready for take off

It's great isn't it? Nathaniel certainly does have that ability.
