Kalops (Sweedish Callops)
I was playing with some old friends Qopit, Tandari and Boozaddy and the talk of food came up and I was making this old recipe for dinner so I thought I'd share.

It's a stew recipe but the cranberries make it sweet and give it a different flavor. Really good, it's an old favorite. The original had no potatoes or carrots so I've added them as optional, but the Potatoes have to be there I say.

Kalops (Sweedish Callops)

3 lbs Beef stew meat.
1/4 tsp pepper
3 Tbl Oil
2 bay leaves
1 tsp salt
1/4 Cup Flour
2 Medium onions chopped
1 16oz can whole Berry Cranberry sauce

optional:
Carrots
3 or more large baking potatoes, cubed
Mushrooms too would be good
And I like some caraway seed (1/4 tsp?)
As well as dried Basil ( 1 Tbl?)

For me this makes a HUGE POT! so have one handy in case the one you normally use is to small.

Sprinkle meat with salt and pepper, then dredge in flour.
Heat the oil in a Dutch oven, or some Big pan with a heavy bottom, add the floured meat and brown on all sides. Do it in two batches.

Add all the other ingredients, Cranberies too. Stir.

Cover and cook over medium to low heat, stirring until the meat is tender, about 90 minutes but this time will vary.

If you make it early it can sit and the flavors can mix. You can end up with lots of liquid so don't add much at the beginning unless you really need to. Watch the bottom of the pan for burning cause its so hard to stir.
