Karrin Murphy - Potential For Romance?
Should Harry and Murphy get together romantically? Obviously if this ever happened she would have to die horribly and because of some mistake he made because that's how these things work but would you like to see it happen anyway just in case that didn't happen?
Does anyone see a parallel between Murphy/Harry and Buffy/Spike? She is his paragon of virtue that he idealizes. He will risk everything with no hope of her ever loving him. He will take any abuse she hurls his way because he believes he deserves it. Am I way out in left field on this one or does anyone else see this?
1st - I'm going to preface all my comments w/ - I am *so* not a Buffy/Spike shipper ---
2nd - I see some of that parallel - but Murphy isn't a bitch to Harry on a regular basis like Buffy is to Spike.
3rd - Do I think they should be romantically involved? Well... maybe, BUT only if it can be done 'right' - and by that I mean, not like it's usually done on tv - where they resolve the UST and put two characters together, then the show focuses totally on the relationship b/c, for some unknown reason, the PTB can't think of any better storylines. (this would be why I'm an 'anti-shipper' for just about every show I watch)
I'm not against them getting romantically involved, I just don't want to see it be all 'cliche' -- that's boring...
Harry and Murphy sitting in a tree???
I don't want to see them in a relationship personally. I would like to see this be the kind of relationship that Angel and Kate had back in season 1 and 2 of Angel. Just friends and work collegues. Maybe when they first met there were sparks and they thought there might be something but what they ended up with is so much better.
Harry With A Baby Carriage?????
Unfortunately, because of his lifestyle, Harry Dresden is one of those people who is doomed to never be in a good, long term relationship. Anyone he loves will either turn evil or die horribly because of him.
Michael and Charity Carpenter show Harry what he can never have. He will never have a woman love him like that. He will never have children in his life. There is potential for him to have children but not as a part of his life. I found it amusing that the fairies wanted to have his first born child, that they wanted him to impregnate one of the fairies. He didn't seem opposed to the idea of having a child, just not giving it up to the fairies. I wonder if this is the first time that Harry had ever thought about having a child. He is very paternal to the Alphas, kind of like a divorced Dad who goes to sporting events with them on weekends and lets them tag along with him.
I could see Harry finding out at some later date that he had a grown child but not to be there in the early stages and if he ever had a child, they would either turn evil and fight him or die horribly because of him just like anyone else who ever really loved him.
Harry will never have children in his life. He will never have a normal woman stand by him and comfort him when he is hurt and love him when he is troubled. That is the calm that Murphy would bring to Harry's life and Harry can never have that like Michael does.

This sounds a lot like S3 of Angel...
And I'm going to go on record and say that I *SO* hope this is NOT what happens to Harry in the stories -- the idea was lame as anything on Angel and I think it would be lame and cliche for Harry --
I also think that every now-and-then something 'not bad' or 'not cliche' shoud happen to Harry. Maybe instead of Harry's 'grown' child arriving on the doorstep, being tripped by Mister, one day, Harry might find a missing relative in need of guidance, and this relative learns some things, then realizes that s/he must move on to keep Harry from risking too much of himself to keep this relative safe --- it's still cliche, but better than the 'grown child' showing up out of nowhere for Harry to deal with...
And, once again on the relationship question, I don't think Harry will have any truly long-term relationships --
Though, it'd be nice if he wasn't "Love's Bitch" either -- Spike is enough of 'Love's Bitch' to go around for a very long time --
<giving credit to Mr. Joss Whedon for the 'love's bitch' line and the excellent character - Spike>
Re: Harry With A Baby Carriage?????
Oh, I definitely don't want to see the long lost son of Harry come to visit dear old Dad. I hated that on Angel. It was a great surprise to find out Darla was pregnant but I do not like it when they introduce a child into a show just because they can.
I was just saying that I could see that more likely than to see Harry being there with someone and raising a child. I think his lifestyle couldn't accommodate an infant. Too dangerous for the kid for one thing, not to mention no money, no hot water and the fact that Mister would probably eat the poor little mite when they weren't looking. In addition to this the baby's mother would either die or become evil within the first year and that's never good for a kid.
Nah, our Harry should not reproduce. He'd be a good Dad but it's just not in the cards for him. At least it shouldn't be.
Re: Harry With A Baby Carriage?????
Well - he could have a kid -- I wouldn't recommend it to him any time soon - but, maybe instead of having one of his own, he could have an apprentice of some type --
Have I mentioned that "Fool Moon" was depressing for that scene about his 'sometimes apprentice'??
Not gonna say exactly what the scene was in case someone stops by who hasn't read the book yet -- (I can mention it in the Fool Moon section tho) ---
I think Harry really just needs some more friends --
Re: Harry and a son???
Hummm... I agree, because of what he is.. Harry could never be in a long relationship... too dangerous... oh he could meet someone... and maybe it would be great if he were to have a son... but he could not stay around him.. would be too dangerous... so he would have to send the mother and his son very far away... but then... I would not want to see the son come back at the age of 20 and say.. "hello dad, its me.. your long lost son!!!!"... so... I guest we better leave that to Jim to decide!!...
as for the romance between Harry and Murphy??.. no.. never mix romance and business!!.. like someone said... it would break the magic between them!!..
Won't you come and dance with the Beautiful Death?
