Most Brilliant Performance
Ok, so none of the actors in "The Wizard of Oz" won an Oscar for Best Actor/Actress. In fact, Judy Garland was the only performer in the movie who won anything.
But, even though they went unrewarded, the actors of Oz were obviously very talented. So, whose performance do you enjoy watching the most? The beloved Judy Garland? Margaret Hamilton with her "beautiful wickedness"? Ray Bolger with his fluid dancing, or perhaps Bert Lahr with his legendary high energy burlesque style comic acting? Or maybe the Munchkins. Which actor or actress' performance deeply affected you the most? Do tell!
Re: Oz Awards
I have to go with the Scarecrow. Hunk's way of moving about during the barnyard scenes were humanoid, with the exception of a very scarecrow-like spin when he hits his hand with a hammer. In Oz, though, he is rather hunched over at times, never having his limbs fully attached, and they sway back and forth. He also falls down quite a bit down the Yellow Brick Road, and his hunch in most scenes only goes to show that his hay-stuffed body can't support the rest of him.
Hats off (or heads off, if yours is made of burlap) to Ray Bolger, the Scarecrow, for insisting that he play the Scarecrow instead of the Tin Woodman.

Most Brilliant Performance
I thought that Jack Haley gave the most brilliant performance (not to say that the others weren't great, too!) Hickory was the nicest of the three farmhands. As the Tin Man, NOTHING of the discomfort that Jack Haley felt in that costume showed. When he was dancing, he genuinely seemed to enjoy it -- although Jack Haley wrote that it was sadistic to expect anybody to dance in that costume. He also called it a portable torture chamber. As for the acting, he made it believable -- the Tin Man really wanted a heart. Besides, Jack Haley was just plain cute (especially as Hickory!)
