My non-soap fan encounter
Ok, so I was terribly disappointed that I would not be able to make it to the FC party this year. I really wanted to go, esp with Nathaniel having his own party. Well, a couple months back, some friends from the Bryan White message board were talking about going to a concert he was having that was somewhat near me. I haven't seen him play in like 5 years & seeing that he is on th crusp of a new album & touring, I felt, what the hell - Wisconsin is not that far & if some were flying in from places like California, my measly 8 hour drive was nothing
It all actually started as a joke with one friend (from Cali) that had spoken to Bryan at Fan Fair in Nashville this past June. Bryan was worried that it would be a very small turnout because of the location. Well, we couldn't have that! So several of us made the decision to attend. The average travel time in the bunch was at least 3 hours (by car). So, I begged, borrowed & stole from the hubby to agree that this was an ok idea I ended up driving in with a friend from Indy area and it was quite the adventure. He was playing at a casino in Hayward, WI - which by the way is pretty much God's country - can't get much farther north in WI than that! LOL We drove all day & the doors were suppose to open at 5 pm - we arrived....at 4:45 (typical of me) So no time to spare, we throw our bags down in the room & head to the banquet room where he was playing. Mind you, I had been driving since 8 am - and certainly looked it Needless to say, the doors DIDN'T open until 7 pm because everyone was late (yes, Bryan included) due to bad weather & I probably could have changed & showered
Everyone here knows how much of a procrastinator I am - but believe it or not, I was convinced to join the fan club & boy, am I glad I did! There was a M&G after the show. Bryan spent time with everyone - "our group" being FC memebers got to meet with him first and it was awesome! I have been a fan of his since about 1993, but had only seen him live one other time. Like I said, one of the gals in our group from the MB, is on a pretty friendly basis with him. After we went thru the M&G, we all just sat around & chatted as we "knew each other" but didn't really "know each other" Just like here - we've never met, but I feel like I know some of you. Anyway...before we realized it, Bryan had gone thru the entire line of people who wanted to meet him and he was walking over to our group. Mind you, it's after 11 pm and the poor guy has been traveling all day & just performed a 2 hour show. But, he sat & talked to us for about 20-30 minutes about life & what not. To me, this was up there with meeting Nathaniel! lol Which I do hope to do..someday.
Anyhew - here are a few pictures from this weekend. Hope you enjoy. Keep in mind that I look like death, because I had been in the car for like 8-9 hours prior to the show & didn't get to do anyting but change my top BTW - for long time OLTL fans, Bryan is married to Erika Page (ex-Roseanne Delgado)

Wow, Laura, sounds like you had an amazing time.

lol. yeah, 8 hours, just a quick trip.

That figures doesn't it. but if you had taken the time to take a shower, it probably would have started on time. that's how it always works, isn't it.

Sounds like he's a real sweetheart, dedicated to his fans and whatnot. Gotta love celebs like that. he could have easily called it a night(and I wouldn't have blamed him) but didn't. of course we don't know anyone else who is really sweet to their fans too hehe

Re: My non-soap fan encounter
Hi Jen!!! And Just as I was beginning to think everyone here ran away!
In my blatent insanity, I am making another treck to see Bryan - this time only a 5 hr drive to St Louis (St Charles Octoberfest) Staying (more than likely,) w/ a fellow fan/friend who lives there. Now, if only another certain celeb would visit somewhere in general proxemity to IN/IL - heck the midwest for that matter - I would be a happy girl Although, I am not as insane as one friend - she is makeing her 3rd treck this way in 3 months....from California - to see Bryan - wait make that 4 in 5 months (if you count Fan Fair in June) But hey - it's amazing the friends you can make with fellow board members, right?

Re: My non-soap fan encounter
hey Laura I didn't run away but maybe there was some type of force field keeping me out or something. cause even though I kept meaning to come in and post but somehow I just never did. or perhaps I'm just making excuses for the little critter that keeps lurking around me known as procrastination, I believe you know of it, Laura
does insanity hang around with procrastination? I may have to be on the lookout for it if it does
I guess 5 hours isn't quite as bad as 8. If I had a car and wasn't scared of getting lost in the big city, ending up in the wrong part of town or something...I'd take a 5 hour drive(I think that's about how long it is) and have the possibility of meeting you know who .

WOW!! is right. That's some dedication right there.

Re: My non-soap fan encounter
So, this trip - definately more eventful! At the last minute, we were contacted by the fan club to assist with the merchandise booth prior & after the show. This meant actually working hand in hand with Bryan and the venue. Pretty cool huh? Three fans getting interaction like this doesn't happen often. When we got to the venue & found our contact it became humorous because this guy thought we worked for Bryan - kept calling us "Bryan's people" and kissing our butts all night - even let my one friends take his totally expensive and brand new Jeep to the Walgreens down the street to get allergy meds (it was outdoors and there was hay all around - Oktoberfest)
Anyway, one of the perks of membership in Bryan's FC is that there is always a M&G after the show. Although lately, he has been meeting with everyone who wants to but FC goes first. So the venue claims they know nothing about this & a local radio station is "giving away" chances to meet w/ Bryan after the show. Being the stubbon people we are & knowing our group alone (about 20 ppl) had traveled great distances to get there we basically told them that they would have a lot of p'ed off people if they didn't do the M&G. Needless to say, we won
Best part was after the show. With Lisa serving as "body guard" (very humorous since she is this tiny little thing) and Arena & I manning the merch booth, Bryan met with everyone. BUT - Afterward, Bryan agreed to go to breakfst with the 3 of us. Simple huh? NO - thanks to the venue guys who announced to everyone still there (about 25+ ppl) where we were going & it turned into this big tadoo.
Ultimately we had a great time. It's really strange to sit across the table from someone who's CD's you have listened to for 10+ years & have a normal conversation with. We talked about everything from why we still listen to his music to Erika's labor pains (lol) Have to say, the only thing better would be doing something similar w/ NM
Here's a photo of the "merch girls" as tehy are calling us - with Bryan after the very last people made it thru the M&G line - this was about 12:30 am....from a 9:00 pm show
