NM plays Al or NM plays Al's twin...that is the question.
I posted something of the sort in the yahoo group and was gonna come over here to ask you ladies how you felt about this. Here's my opinion:
I love Nathaniel in any way that I can get him, in any role and for that reason I'll take him in the Al's twin storyline. I have to say that I don't like the ghost idea but I can live with twin idea. I mean isn't a big part of what makes Marcal so special is the chemsitry between the actors that play them, Nathaniel and Kathy, both on and off camera. And if Nathaniel is still on the canvas playing a twin that chemistry would still be there.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely don't want Al to die in any way. There are so many ways that they can take that story without having him die. But IF(and that's a big if) Al does die I would so much rather see Marcie move on with Al's twin played by Nathaniel who we know Kathy has great chemistry with over someone like Joe. I mean Al with Marcie was who we all fell in love with when we fell in love with Marcal and Marcie with his twin will never be the same as that but it will be much better than any other potential storylines with Marcie.
My #1 priority is to keep Nathaniel as Al and not have Al die for the reason of Al having so much history on the show that a twin wouldn't have. But I'm not gonna complain about getting to watch Nathaniel everyday even if it comes in the form of Al's twin. It may even give him the chance to play a darker character that a lot of us want to see anyways.
I think we could see something similar to what happened with the Frankie/Maggie twin thing on AMC for those of you that watch that show. Bianca had an amazing bond with Frankie before she died and that bond was passed on to Frankie twin sister Maggie when she came to town. Though the bond was on a diff level with it being romantic between Frankie/Bianca and more strong friendship with Maggie/Bianca. I can see a similar thing happening with Marcie and Al's twin, though it would be somewhat different too. Marcie will automatically be drawn to the character and want to help him especially if he more of a dark character. That is how Marcie is what we've come to love about her. and in opinion this should be good to watch.
In summary...I prefer to have Al with Marcie but as a 2nd choice Al's twin with Marcie won't be all that bad. That is JMHO.
Re: NM plays Al or NM plays Al's twin...that is the question
I think Nathaniel would be awesome as ANY character, but he fit so well with Marcie as "AL"..... The characters fit together like pieces of a puzzle, and I'm sure that the chemistry would still be there no matter WHO he played, but I just love for Marcie to have HER AL, and for Al to have HIS MARCIE. You know? Does that make any sense at all? I just don't want Al to die. He just can't be killed, that would be brutal. I don't think I could watch that.
But, like you said, Jen, having NM on the show is the #1 priority here.
Yeah I do agree with you Brittany.
That does make sense, girl. I completely understand where you coming from. No way do I want to lose Al. That character has a great history with the show that it would be shame to lose both him and Max. and you are right, the last thing that I want it break up Marcie and Al. Marcie dealing with the loss of Al would just break my heart. Marcal is and always will be one of the best couples to ever hit daytime tv and they will ALWAYS have the honor to be the first couple to pull me in and feel the love that they are portraying on the screen.
But if we absolutely have to lose Al, I think having Nathaniel still on the canvas is much better than anything else that could happen.
Perhaps there is some selfishness on my part here cause a small part of me being able to accept a potential for Al's twin is that I'll be able to see Nate on a regular basis. Which if he moved on, I wouldn't be able to see. But I think the overriding element in my mind is that I am a fan of Nathaniel's no matter what and I will support him in whatever he does. In my mind, the pros of this situation out-weigh the cons and it will allow us to further the witness the range of talent that Nathaniel has as an actor cause most likely we would see a character that is diff from Al.
I understand that I'm probably in the minority amoung NM fans out there in terms of my take on this but that will not change my opinion and I respect anyone who feels differently than I do.

Al's Twin.. not so bad...
I know my opinion is not going to be popular but bear with me. I DO LOVE Marcal even if I approached it from a different angle, and I hope no one ever questions that... but I've never felt it was in NM's best interest, even if much good came from it. You know I came to MARCAL kicking and screaming as I put it... its not because I personally didn't think I'd enjoy it... it was about knowing too much about the reality of daytime. The idea of having him come back as a twin actually intriques me. My only worry is getting NEITHER Al nor the twin, because I'd like to see NM stay on the show I've loved, AND I can't help but believe its in his best interest in terms of his "resume" etc...
MARCAL negatives: 1. Its the volatile moody wounded intense men that get a big following (and Nathaniel is MADE for that role far more than any of the other "bad" boys of the show besides TSJ) I think NM had that going in the beginning, but because of Gary Tomlin and co., and the need to prop Jen, Al was written as someone no woman would find sexy because, despite the qualities that Nathaniel brought to Al, Al was written as a lap dog. 2. Like Max and Luna, sweet love stories can ruin a character. Need I say more considering we never saw the likes of a good Max storyline since then? 3. Girls often don't relate to women like Marcie, so for every Marcaler, there's probably a girl who isn't interested. I do keep in touch with people around the net who I give space to be open with me without judgement... who don't have the guts to say online "I love Al.. but am so turned off that he's being paired with Marcie.. and its not like I don't like her myself, but they don't match, for example... "reminds me of how guys tell each other... hea, if you need it that bad, find an overweight chick". You might think, well, who needs these fans? Well, I say, who needs any fan, creepy or sweet, if not for the numbers... I'm talking reality here, not a judgment call. I'm not saying NM doesn't really like us, or anything like that... but honestly... lets get real here.
What good came from MARCAL: 1. Proof he's an amazing actor because he took a sappy story and made it must see OLTL for anyone who took the time to pay attention, as well as making something probably unbelieveable in real life into something believeable 2. The Marcalers are campaign central, best fans NM could have dreamed of 3. Those who DO get it are given a rare treat for a soap opera 4. Showed how much range NM has to make Al so layered... he made it possible to see the creepy Al and the princely Al, as the same person... flawlessly, and SEAMLESSLY.
A friend of mine quoted a producer of this show "its not what the fans want to see, its the stories we want to tell". If killing Al is the story whoever in charge WANTS to tell, then its going to happen. For instance, no doubt, gazillions of T&Bers watched TNT because someone who had power LIKED the couple. I don't HONESTLY think campaigning REALLY does anything, except make jokes for TPTB... "yeah, I got 78 letters from that actors 3 fans, ha ha" We do it because it MIGHT make a difference, it gives us HOPE, let's us reach out to the actor we admire, and don't want to lose.. and it helps the actor in the sense that whoever wants to hire knows there's a fan base that comes with...
I admit, FULLY, that I am first and foremost a Nathaniel Marston fan, and if given a choice between following NM to his next project and OLTL, I would choose NM, without reservation. I'm am MORE than certain of his abilities and that if lil ole me with minimal acting experience can see what NM has to offer, bigshots who can hire him must too. I am staying with OLTL with or without NM, only because I'm so much a part of the online community, I'd miss everyone, but rant and rave till doomsday about TIIC losing NM. Oh, I'd take him as Al's twin... I'd take him as Al.. I just prefer him on the canvas I'm invested in... instead of not being able to see him on any canvas, investing in a new canvas, and it possibly doing any harm to his career... Do I prefer Al? There are pros and cons.. tell ya the truth, part of me wonders about the possibilities of what we can see NM do if he WEREN'T Al.

Not sure Al's TWIN is out of the question
I know the soap magazine says he's not coming back as a twin... and Kathy OUTRIGHT says he's coming back as a ghost... but this is for the immediate future... WHAT IF... WHAT IF... the way Marcie connects with the ghost leads to twin or something.. something ala ANNE RICE...
Okay.. I got Michael Easton vampires on the brain... but I've always wanted to see Nathaniel play more than he's been given... You know how I feel.. I do love Al and his struggles... and I feel his love for Marcie... but I've always loved that Nathaniel can play much more than that...
