*New* So It Begins: Very Short Prologue (Liason)
A/N: This is just a very, very brief prologue for a story that I think will be best categorized as an ensemble fic. There will be Liason, but there will be at least one other couple as well.
The packed courtroom was silent as the Honorable Judge Robert Gorman peered over his horn-rimmed glasses at the jury. “Madame Forman, has the jury reached a verdict?”
“Yes, Your Honor, we have,” the forewoman replied. She handed a piece of paper to the bailiff, who then handed it to the judge. Judge Gorman unfolded the paper and read it, his expression betraying nothing. He then handed it back to the bailiff, who returned it to the foreman.
“The defendant will rise for the reading of the verdict,” said the judge.
He swallowed, hard, before rising to face the jury and learn his fate.
The foreman began to read. “In the matter of the State of New York vs. Michael Corinthos, charged with the murder of Lorenzo Alcazar, we find the defendant guilty.”
A cacophony of sound replaced the silence that had blanketed the courtroom mere moments ago.
Sonny bowed his head and exhaled loudly, as if he had just been punched in the gut.
DA Baldwin grinned and wiggled his fingers at Sonny, his blue eyes twinkling with unholy mirth. “You’re going to Sing Sing,” he mouthed.
Carly looked as if she’d been carved from a block of ice; her face was devoid of all color. Her hands tightened on the bench until her knuckles shone alabaster.
Ric smirked and tried to catch his brother’s eye.
Courtney sobbed loudly, her face an alarming shade of red. She clung to Jason with all the strength she could muster. That is to say, with considerable strength.
Jason sat motionless except for the nearly imperceptible tightening of his jaw. He seemed to be unaware of the hysterical blonde clinging to him. Finally, he blinked, and his gaze rose to meet Elizabeth’s across the crowded courtroom.
