*New* Wild: Part 1 of 2 or 3 (R)
A/N: There will be one or two more parts to this short story. It's just a bit of fun. As always, feedback is appreciated. Enjoy.:)

Wild

They were just sitting down to a pot pie dinner when his cell rang. Courtney scowled, but he flipped it open regardless.

“Morgan.”

“Jason, it's Francis. We've got a small problem.”

“Can you take care of it? I'm about to eat.”

“No. I already tried. She won't listen to me.”

“She? Who?” Jason stepped away from the dining table and turned his back on Courtney in order to avoid her glare.

“Elizabeth. Who else?” Francis' voice was laced with frustration.

Jason sighed and rubbed his free hand over his face. So much for a quiet dinner. “All right. Where are you?”

“Avalon,” Francis replied.

“That new place by Luke's?” Jason asked.

“Yeah, that's the one. Listen, Jason, I gotta warn you; she's pretty wasted.”

Jason tensed and wondered what he would find when he got to the club. Watching Elizabeth cry into her beer would not be fun. “Later, Francis. I'll be there in a few minutes.”

He flipped his phone shut and turned back to Courtney, who had folded her arms across her chest and was watching him silently. “I have to go. I'm sorry.” He braced himself for her response.

“Jason, we need to spend more quality time together. Now that Carly's safe at home, I really want to concentrate on us.” She sighed loudly and shook her head as if she was deeply disappointed in him. “But I can't do that with you running off all the time.” Her lower lip trembled dangerously, and Jason hoped against hope that she wouldn't turn on the waterworks.

“I know, and I'm sorry,” he replied in his most placating voice. “Don't wait up for me; I'm not sure when I'll be back.”

“Jason--” Her voice skated the edge of whiney.

He shot her a warning look. “Courtney, I already told you I'm sorry. Now I really have to go. We'll talk later.” Without waiting for her response, he left the penthouse.

The divorce was finalized, and Elizabeth wanted to dance. The nightmare of her life with Ric was over. She was free, and she planned to enjoy her freedom. The throb of the bass pounded through the club and settled in her bones, in her blood. Shaking her hair back from her face, she moved in time with the music, feeling it move through her.

Life, she'd learned over and over and over again, was uncertain. And happiness? Ephemeral and insubstantial as the cloud of smoke shimmering in the air of the club. Even when she tried to do the right thing, the right thing turned out to be a mistake. She'd defended Ric against everyone; she hadn't bailed on him when things got tough. She'd tried to be a good wife. Look where that had gotten her. And Lucky. She'd stayed with Lucky when her heart yearned for Jason, and Lucky had paid her back by sleeping with her sister. As for Jason...No, she wouldn't think about him. Not tonight at least.

She'd learned her lesson. She'd grab her happiness when she could and hoard it for the inevitable rainy days. Tonight, she was having fun. Tonight, at least, she was happy.

Noticing the tall, dark-haired man watching her from a few feet away, she grinned and danced over to him. She reached for his hand. “Oh come on, Frannie. Don't be such a stick in the mud. As long as you're going to stay here and watch me anyway, you might as well have a little fun.” She looked up at him through her eyelashes. “I’m sure Sonny and Jason won’t mind.”

Francis' pulled his hand out of her grip. “Elizabeth...”

She stuck her tongue out and blew a raspberry. “You sound just like my grandmother, Frannie.”

He frowned and shook his head.

Elizabeth rose on her toes and pinched his cheek. “Tsk tsk. You shouldn't frown like that, Frannie. It'll give you wrinkles.” She giggled loudly and returned to the thick crush of bodies gyrating to the music. It felt good to be swept away by something other than regret, anger, and sadness.

Jason entered the club and let his eyes adjust to the darkness and the flashing lights. He scanned the crowd, searching for Francis. There he was.

“Where is she?” Jason asked.

“Over there,” Francis replied, motioning to his right.

Jason's heart nearly stopped when he saw where Francis was pointing. Elizabeth was sandwiched between two men and surrounded by a circle of several other admiring men. His eyes narrowed and his throat tightened. What she was doing could hardly be described as dancing. Her sweet little ass was hugged by tight black pants he’d never seen her wear before, and she was grinding it into the man behind her in a way that made Jason feel something he’d never felt when it came to Courtney--something raw and ugly. Jealousy.

The man behind Elizabeth had his hands on her hips and a big smile on his face. The man in front of her was grinning too, straight into the creamy cleavage her tiny black tank top revealed. It seemed like Elizabeth was looking for trouble, and with the way she looked, she was going to find it. Enough was enough.

Jason didn’t realize he’d actually growled until he noticed Francis staring at him. “What?” he asked, scowling. “Leave. Now. I’ll handle this.”

Francis raised both his hands in a gesture of surrender before walking away.

Jason cut through the thick crowd easily, as people took one look at his scowling face and moved out of his way as quickly as possible. “Elizabeth,” he said, reaching for her her right hand, which was resting against the back of one of the men’s neck.

Her head turned toward him slowly, and her red painted lips curved in a lazy smile that sent an unexpected jolt of heat shooting to his cock. Her lips moved, but at first he couldn’t hear her because of the roaring in his head. He shook himself and realized she was waiting for a response. Only problem was, he had no idea what she’d said.

His hand was still on her hers, but she hadn’t moved away from the other men. Jason gave her hand a firm tug, and she stumbled forward, colliding against him. Her body was small and warm, crushed against his, and he liked it. The realization had him stepping back from her as if he’d been burned.

But she stepped forward as soon as he stepped back. Even in the dimness of the club, he could see an unsettling gleam in her midnight eyes.

“Well, well, if it isn’t my knight in shining armor, come to save the day.” She tipped her head back and looked up at him. “Only this time, I don’t need saving. I’m having fun, you see.”

One of the men she was dancing with came forward, but Jason stared him down until he finally shrugged and walked away. Jason turned his attention back to Elizabeth.

It was a mistake.

The club was hot, and Elizabeth’s face shimmered with a fine sheen of sweat. He wanted to lick it off her, taste the salt, taste her. She licked her full lips and Jason was painfully reminded of all the nights he’d wanted her. So many lonely, sleepless nights when he’d imagined what it would be like to feel those soft lips on his body.

This was madness.

He shook his head and reached for her, wrapping his hand around her arm, just above her elbow. “I think you’ve had enough fun for tonight, Elizabeth.” He head to get her home. Fast.

She slipped out of his grasp and wagged her finger at him mockingly. “Uh uh uh. I was dancing. But you interrupted. You scared away those nice men.” Elizabeth moved until she was standing an inch away from him. “So now I guess I’ll just have to dance with you.
