OMG, Glad that Ryan, and everyone else, is OK...
Ryan Seacrest surprised during appearance...
There was a scary moment at Marshall Field's State Street on Saturday during "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest's noon to 2 p.m. appearance to promote his new T-shirt line.
Right at the beginning of the event, all 11 floors of the department store had to be evacuated because of an alarm scare.
Everyone from the servers plating food in the Walnut Room restaurant to the 200 Seacrest fans in line to the clerks and customers on every floor, elevators and escalators were jammed with people making their way to the street as seven fire engines and police arrived.
Of course, during the momentary chaos of sirens and mass exodus, the one thought on almost everyone's mind was a terrorist incident considering the recent national high alert issued for Los Angeles, New York and Chicago from now until Sept. 11.
Fortunately, in this case, it was a just a matter of a false alarm.
Job well done
On the subject of Marshall Field's, Friday night's Glamorama black-tie fashion show charity event raised more than $300,000 for the Chicago Art Institute. Up next at Field's, Sarah Jessica Parker arrives Sept. 19 to unveil her new fragrance "Lovely Sarah Jessica Parker." For more information, call (312) 781-5454. Also next month, the store welcomes Jennifer Lopez on Sept. 22 to launch her new JLO fashion line and shop with a charity fashion show and VIP reception. Ticket proceeds will benefit pediatric medical research initiatives at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Tickets are $100 and can be purchased by calling (773) 880-4268 by Sept. 21.
