As the name indicates...this RPG will revolve around Crossroads and New Beginnings.CrossroadsWe would like to see characters come to a 'crossroads' in their lives where important and life changing decisions have to be made. These events can be very personal...i.e. a relationship beginning, ending or changing, or they can be moral or spiritual. Whatever is decided, they should show 'growth' for your character.New BeginningsThis can be any number of items as well and most likely will relate back to the 'crossroads' in your character(s)' life or lives and/or career. They may be starting a new career as teacher or student at Xavier's School for the Gifted or may have been selected to train for the upcoming X-Men team(s). Their 'new beginning' once again may be as simple as establishing a new relationship or changes in an old one.
The X-Men and all likenesses are the property of Marvel Comics, 20th Century FOX, and ALL the creative minds therein. X-Men Crossroads is a non-profit RPG board. Jonathan drives around to the stables and pulls around back to the far wing where his apartments and the mews for his birds of prey are located.
Getting out, he stretches, then immediately begins to carefully unload the carriers housing his feathered companions.
"Good to be home, isn't it." Jonathan states to the first of the birds that he frees from the confines of its carrier and puts into the spacious habitat. The Great Horned Owl blinks sleepily, hoots softly and makes its way to the hollowed out tree in its area...ready to sleep.
You know, there's one thing crows are very good at. (besides the whole "ooohhh, shinies" bit, that is) it's called mobbing, and it annoys the @&$* out of every falconer since time began.
And, of course, everyone's favorite corvid is just sitting nearby, surrounded by a bunch of real crows, just waiting...

*Walks out the front doors totally ignoring the little show and around towards the gardens*
"Goddess thats a lot of crows. I wonder if they've found something. Odd they just sit there watching though." her gaze slid off towards the stables.
'Hmm somethings not right....' she thought as she used a wind to propel herself up and towards them. Upon landing, she was able to see the birds much better.
Looking around the stables, she couldn't see anything dead, "That is weird. It's almost as if they are waiting on something..."
"Dr. Chase?" she called out looking upwards. He HAD to see this.
Re: Open Tags
Quite aware of the crows, Jonathan carefully brought the carriers out, not opening and releasing his birds, until they were safely inside their habitats. Their devoted handler was all to well aware of the vicious attacks and torture that murders of crows often inflicted on birds of prey in the wild.
Once each bird was safe and secured, Jonathan their fresh water. They had been well fed prior to leaving the last stop on their last 'ambassadorial' tour. He didn't allow Ororo to distract him until each of his valuable feathered companions were safe in the enclosed mews. When he had renovated the beautiful old mews, he had made sure they were 'critter' proof.
Coming out and fastening the door, he reached into his SUV for the last carrier. "I'm aware of the crows, Ms. Munroe. Their behavior is not than unusual...just potentially annoying and dangerous for my birds if care isn't taken." Jonathan paused to lock his car, "It's too cold out here, I need to get Gryphon into the apartment. You may join me if you like."
Jonathan, along with the carrier holding his Blue and Gold Macaw, headed toward the stairs that led up to the renovated Head Groom's old apartments above the back wing of the stable.

Jonathan pauses and nods at the dark haired man approaching.
"Sorry, I hope the ruckus here did not disturb you." He holds out his hand politely, "Dr. Jonathan Chase, professor, animal sciences and veterinarian."
"You're welcome to join us for tea...or coffee if you prefer."

*turns towards Logan, eyes still white* Ah Logan. *smiles as eyes go back to blue* *turns and glares at any other crows that may be chasing them*
Re: Open Tags
OOC: This comes before Storm's Rimshot, but I posted under the wrong character which really irks me.
Jonathan smiled, "Once out of school, most of the grants I received were in the USA. Then, once here and established, most of my work seemed to come from US based zoological parts and animal behavior research societies."
Jonathan paused to open the door to his loft apartment, "Please, come in."
A brief moment later he has the spectacular Blue and Gold Macaw out on a large dragonwood tree playstand. "About four years ago, just when I was thinking it was time to light somewhere, I saw an ad in an employment brochure for a teaching position at a private school. Its top two requirements were an open mind and tolerant attitude. I applied and here I am..."
After feeding and watering the parrot, Jonathan puts on both the coffee maker and tea kettle. "So, I teach the animal science related courses...biology, zoology, etc. And in my spare time, I still consult and offer my services as vet to the Xavier managerie...mainly the equines."
Grinning as he prepared both coffee and tea for his guests, Jonathan continued, "And technically I'm Scottish although the education bit has blurred the accent."
"Please make yourselves comfortable." Jonathan added, setting a tea/coffee service on the low coffee table.
"Wanna nut?" The parrot asked, gazing at Logan and Storm seriously out of one eye.
Re: Open Tags
OOC: I moved us inside the apartment, Wolvie. Hope you didn't mind. Jonathan smiled at Storm and the parrot. "Don't trust him. He'll cadge extra treats from you no matter how much he's just had."
Jonathan walked over to a neat row of containers on shelves in the kitchen. Selecting a variety of nuts, still in the shell, he took them back and put them in a feeder cup on the stand. In no time the macaw was happily cracking shells to get to the treat inside, making tiny "happy parrot" squawks as he worked.
"I've been away a few weeks during the break on a speaking tour. How have things been here?"
Re: Open Tags
"Pleasant, though tiring. Hopefully the kids and I made some new friends. At the very least, perhaps we opened some young eyes to the plight of birds of prey in the wild." Jonathan replied, smiling.
He glanced around as Gryphon squawked loudly then flew the short distance to the sofa, strutting along the back and settling near Jonathan's shoulder. The parrot leaned as far forward as he could, hoping for wing rubs and scritches.
Jonathan offered his arm to the bird. Once Gryphon had stepped up, he lowered his arm pulling the bird close against his chest. The parrot stretched his wings in a 'hug' and leaned against Jonathan's shoulder, resting his beak. Jonathan used his free hand to gently rub the flight muscles beneath the wings and scritch along the bird's head.
"Birds really are incredible companions...but demanding." Jonathan said softly, smiling at both his guests and the parrot stretched out in his arms.
Re: Open Tags
Storm watched amazed at the bird, "Such a beautiful creature." she smiled as she walked over to the bird and reached out a hand, "May I pet him?"
Re: Open Tags
Logan chuckled at the giant bird when it eyeballed him askin' if he wanted a nut, but he didn't reply.
As Dr. Chase told them a bit about himself, he strolled slowly in a circle, checkin' out the small apartment. He liked the man's style... and the fact that he seemed to really like and respect animals. That seemed to click with something inside him right away.
As Storm and Dr. Chase made themselves comfortable he simply turned to give him his undivided attention, standing at ease in the middle of the room. He felt comfortable here... he briefly noted that was a bit strange for him, cuz he wasn't sure why that was.
Re: Open Tags
Jonathan smiled and surrendered the parrot up to Storm. "Ask him to 'step up', once he's on your forearm, pull him close to you. Parrots are prey animals, so they like the shelter their 'tree' provides...and that would be your body. To them, only your head is another 'bird', which is why you ordinarily do not want to allow a parrot...especially a large one like Gryphon to be higher than your head. It makes them feel like the dominant bird."
Waiting until the bird was settled on Storm's arm, he continued, voice low but as a trained speaker he did not have to be loud, "Now, settle him closer to you and use your free hand to gently scritch beneath his feathers. I usually ask if he minds first. The command to get him to lift his wings so that you can rub the flight muscles...which he is a sucker for...is simply 'wings'."
Out of the corner of his eye, Jonathan noted Logan observing his apartment. He had incorporated the natural brick from the stable, warm woods, and natural stone looking tile on the floors. The colors ranged from the natural Earth tones with here and there a splash of a brighter color...deep red, jewel blue. Like Jonathan himself, the place reflected a subtle communion and comfort with nature.
Re: Open Tags
Storm nodded and did as told. She smiled at the bird and gently ran a finger over his wings. 'Wings' she stated to the bird and waited.
"Those crows outside didn't look too pleasant. Its as if they were out to get us or something." she laughed as she followed Chase's gaze towards Logan. She smiled at the short man, he seemed peaceful enough, like if he were home in his own cabin.
Re: Open Tags
Gryphon obediantly lifted his wings for the woman's caresses, settling closer into her arms in total contentment.
Jonathan watched a moment longer, assuring himself that the bird wasn't going to turn into a brat without warning.
Smiling at Logan, Jonathan waved a hand indicating his comfortably decorated but uncluttered home, "I feel more at home here than I have anywhere in many years. Too much time traveling really to make a 'home'." Jonathan sipped his tea.
"Would you care to see the Mews?"
Jonathan sensed a certain reserve in the other man. Although curious about Logan's history with the school, he was content to wait until the man was comfortable enough to volunteer information. One of Jonathan's abiding gifts was patience. He unconsciously relaxed himself, sending out in both body language and 'vibes' that he was not threatened and at ease.
Background: Many, many years ago, Charles Francis Xavier established Xavier's School for the Gifted. Also, seeing other Mutants misusing and abusing their powers, he created the first generation of the X-Men.This original team was trained and lead by an old friend of his...Logan, aka Wolverine. Logan's co-leader was a young woman and student named Ororo Munroe, aka Storm. Once the team was trained and fielded on active missions, they took on the additional responsibility of teaching and helping new Mutants deal with their powers. On one horrible night, the X-Men were fielded to stop a particularly powerful Mutant and his 'gang'. The 'intelligence' received on this Mutant and his cohorts was sketchy and actually turned out to be a set-up to entrap the X-Men and take them captive. In the ensuing melee', 'things' happened and a number of the team were killed outright or severely injured. After making sure his remaining team-mates were going to be okay, Logan left. Xavier has not, to current time, explained his absence or even whether or not he survived.Current Time/Game Time: Almost seven years later, as Human/Mutant incidents are on the rise, Xavier once again sees a need for a Mutant 'police force'. He sees this new X-Men team as a force for good and a way to help peacefully integrate the rapidly emerging Mutant society with the established Human society. To this end, he has contacted Logan and asked him to 'come home' and train his 'new' team.
Logan has reluctantly agreed. Can shadows from their past be put aside for the good of the new X-Men? How will the surviving members of the original team react and what will they do as 'truths' are learned about that disastrous night?Note: We want the new X-Men to include younger versions of the old familiar characters such as Scott, Jean, Beast etc...as well as many of the OCC’s and other Canon characters that are available. Please ask the Staff BEFORE stating or establishing that your character was one of the old, now disbanded, original X-Men.
