Page Views: what is counted as a view?
Many admins are curious about exactly what will count as a page view. Page views are important because your board's price for gold community is based on views. This information is for page views in your community stats section of the control center.
(1) If you click the main page of your board (that's the forum index) that's one view. If you refresh that page, that also counts as another view.
(2) If you click the next level, which is the topic index (or an individual forum page, if you like). that's one view. If you refresh that page, that's another view. If you go directly from one forum to another, each move is one view.
(3) Once you're inside the forum, viewing each topic counts as one view. This is a change from how it was a while ago.
If you view 20 topics, that is 20 views. A multi page topic counts as one view. If you click page 2 of a topic where you already just read page 1, page 2 will not be an additional view.
(4) If you make a post (either a new topic or a reply), that counts as one view. (the new topic/add reply page does not count as a view, but when you submit the post you are returned to a refreshed topic listing page, so that is where the one view comes from)
(5) If you edit a post, that also counts as one view. (because after you do the action you are returned to the refreshed topic listing page)
previewing and then going back to edit, previewing again, going back again, these are not counted as views. Only submitting the edit/post will count as a view because you get taken to the topic listing.
(6) Other functions, such as move, delete, close, reopen etc will also count as one view. (because after you do the action you are returned to the refreshed topic listing page)
(7) 'extra' pages for your board such as the complete emoticons list, the community chest, the forum search pages, the community profile, and the active members list do NOT count as views.
(8 ) As you can see above, a single person reading many topics would count as many views. The stats just measures individual page views, not unique visitors.
If you are using daily page view limits on your board, be sure that you allow users enough page views to make a post. If you have the limit set lower than 5, the only way a user can make a post is to have a link to the topic they wish to post in (2 page views) or if they go directly to the forum and then the topic (4 page views).
