Re: Quinoa
Tons of recipes that use that grain are: Quinoa recipes
It is gritty - grainy and has kind of a nutty oat flavor. Hard to describe. I have eaten it at vegen restaurants. Looks like couscous. You can get it ground like flour, so you could mix it with your flour base and make a pie.
Some (but not all) varieties of quinoa have heavy saponin coatings in the wild, and a few decades ago the quinoa that was sold in the US still had those coatings so the washing was important (not only for the flavor, but also because saponin is an antinutrient that robs quinoa of most of the nutritional effectiveness that quinoa is so famous for). Almost all quinoa that you get in the US now is either pre-washed, or polished to remove the saponin coating. If you want to be sure, just dunk your quinoa in some water, and see if it foams up; if so, then you've got unwashed/unpolished quinoa and you probably want to go through the full rinsing process.
P.S. the carbs are high for those on a low carb diet.

Re: Quinoa
I like the carb/protien ratio. I don't get enough protein regularly. I had been holding off experimenting with replacing my post-run oatmeal with quinoa until after the marathon, but tried some anyway and found the taste unusal, but not bad. It is better with a dash of both salt and butter, but that is just eating the flakes plain. I'm going to try making it into muffins or something I think. I was just curious if anyone else had eaten it and in what types of dishes. Thanks for the feedback!
Re: Quinoa

Re: Quinoa
Hehe, thanks Perone! I loooove food, but try to look at it more as fuel when I'm training for something, or else I'm sluggish. But beer I have not had since college, probably because I drank by the keg back then and tended to streak, hot tub, or ride my bike nekkie. T'wasnt a purty sight sporting the freshman 15 and then some... So drink a brew for me, and I'll stick with my vodka and tonic!
Re: Quinoa
Hehe, of course you're not alone hon! I cannot imagine how large the collective MMORPG community is, but it has got to rival a small country's population! Not sure if that is a good or bad thing though...
Re: Quinoa
true, Malinae, so true!! Quite the visual! The high head box with long veils on Perone would be something. The white bib would also help when he ate.
hmmm... well.... after much consdieration, I am more like !! at the vision.
