Salival Rocks
Pushit live. No words can describe this song. In my opinion it is the greatest song in the world. I love Pushit on the album, but this is amazing. More than amazing. Never before has a song been able to affect my mood so much, and so unpredictably. No matter how I feel before I listen to it, I'll feel different afterwards. Sometimes better, sometimes worse, but by the time the tabla solo in the middle reaches my ears it sinks me fully into my deepest thoughts, and the ultra-climactic ending thrashes them out in a blinding catharsis. **BEST LISTENED TO IN UNINTERRUPTED DARKNESS**
On top of that, there is an amzing 3rd eye live version, a pretty cool live and unreleased song (merkarba) and an appropriately drawn out cover of the Led Zeppelin epic, No Quarter. Originally the cover was meant for a Led Zep tribute album, but the compilers of the album said to shorten it, and Tool said 'No' because it would ruin the feel of the original to take out bits. It's perfect how it is, but can be boring if you want to hear a snappy rock song (and now and then we all do, don't we?).
Harry Manbeck II and LAMC make interesting non-musical tracks, I think, especially the cynical humour of LAMC, and Maynard's Dick is an interesting (and very grunge) tune, found one minute after the end of LAMC.
All in all, this was a great way to remind the world who Tool are, although many of us didn't forget, and an awesome companion to both Aenima and Lateralus.
