Sami & Lucas
Recently they showed a classic scene of the two of them & it just reminds me of how nice it is when shows are able to retain or re-hire actors. It really helps with continuity of plot & adherence to history. So often in the past few years I've wondered if Sami remembered how Wil was conceived, how close she & Lucas had been, and how much they meant to each other. It was so nice that Sami's first memory when seeing Lucas in his coma was that of Wil's conception. And if the actors had been changed & they had to re-shoot the scene it would have lost the affect. Seeing how young they were was so nice. I loved their friendship & always hoped they'd become a couple. Soap friendships like that are so rare these days.

Re: Sami & Lucas
I certainly agree with your comments on how retaining longtime castmembers gives a great amount of continuity to a soap. Days' special Christmas episode is a prime example! Those wonderful clips of Doug & Julie and Mickey & Maggie in the 70s just couldn't have happened if Days had recast those roles later on. Ditto for Days' Bo & Hope retrospective. Although I enjoyed RKK's portrayal of Bo, that episode wouldn't have been possible if he were still playing the role. IMO, the vets add so much to a soap that I can't believe that many of today's soap writers don't write for them! One of the greatest strengths of the soap opera genre is its wealth of history to draw upon. I wish that more writers would use this gold mine.
