For those of you who are not familiar with Sandshifter (if that is possible), he is the “gatekeeper” of designer/mesher identities for the Sim community. He serves a highly important function for all of us by keeping track of who we are and where we belong. This is no easy task because the Sim community is so volatile. Please take a few minutes to get to know Sandshifter better and an additional few minutes to drop Sandshifter a thank you email.

Sabinka: What made you want to start keeping track of
designer identifications via the IDenTify tracking
system?

S: I was keeping a short list of a few sites and
designers that I liked and the list keep getting
longer and I had to rewrite it often, so I thought
"How many can there be anyway? Not many, so I will
just list them on a web page since I enjoy building
websites. Didn't know then that there must be hundreds
. . . I now have almost 400 different ones listed.

Sabinka: What are the pros of this system? What are the cons, if any?

S: Pros . . .I try to put a lot of information all on one
page to make it easy to use. Con . . . I have to find most of the information myself, although more people are beginning to send in their info or send me additions or corrections that
they may know of . . . that helps a lot.

Sabinka: Have you had a situation where duplicate
identifiers were submitted for registration? If so,
how did you resolve this?

S: Yes, there are some duplicates but I believe that more of the new designers and webmasters are beginning to
check out the list before deciding on their IDs. There
are as many as 3 of some initials . . . confusing, but
I list them all. I now have persons who are creating a
new site ask me to "save" certain initials for them .
. . not that I can, but I add them to the list for
them.

Sabinka: You provide a great deal of information for the
Sim player. Do you also design skins, objects, etc.? If so, where
are these posted? If not, why not?

S: Since I was originally a graphic artist and
typographer, I wanted to create . . . even bought the
new PSP 7 . . . but realized that there were already
many, many truly great and talented artists already
creating things for the Sims, so I decided to just try
to make the IDenTify listing as my "artistic"
creation. I made a few walls and one skin and they are
posted on my site.

Sabinka: Since you are a gatekeeper of sorts, what kind of tips could you give to the newbie regarding the
Sim community and the sites with in it?

S: The Sims game is something different for each person. Some like to design and create, some like to build and
furnish houses and some just like to play the game.
Personally, I like to "test" things, so I try every
new program that comes along and there are some great
programmers working on things for us. So my suggestion
is to just jump in and see what aspect of the game
appeals to you . . . and once you decide, then play it
your way since there are no rules and you don't win or
lose . . . you just enjoy . . .

Sabinka: What do you think the Sim community should know about you and your site?

S: There is not much the Sim Community "should" know
about me except that I am doing my best to furnish
something for them that I hope will be useful in their
playing of the game . . . and I want everyone to know
that I truly appreciate any help and/or info that they
can furnish me for the site.

Sabinka: What future plans do you have for your site?

S: To continue to add as much useful information to the site as possible . . . I keep wishing I had more
columns to add more info . . . however it is already
difficult to keep it current and accurate . . . I have
been updating the site as many as 3 times a day
recently.

I don't know how much space I have left to use but
will continue as long as I am able . . . and I want to
thank all those that use and benefit from the site. It
makes me feel good to hear that someone uses it.
Thanks Sims Community.

Regards,
Sabinka
