For those looking for the code to give the Emoticons a scrollbar of their own, here is the FAQ Topic.
REMEMBER: PLEASE save the images to your own hard drive and then upload to a host. Do not link directly to them.
(all sites found using Google to search for smilies)
and if any smilies have a URL next to them, it is not right to use that URL here or anywhere on EZBoard!

I don't know if this will do any good, but just for the record the site "bestsmilies.com" is knowingly hosting certain emoticons without permission. He knows they are supposed to be removed but I have had no luck in actually getting him to do it. The emoticons I'm talking about are the ones in this style: The last time I checked (a week or so ago) there were a total of 42 of those there. So please please, if you see those there do not use them elsewhere as they're not even supposed to be offered on that site in the first place.

So say I like the look of some smilies on a smilie place, and I want to use them for my own message board,
what do I do? Do I have to get permission from the person that made them or something? Cos I'm getting a bit confused.

Hello and welcome.
Most smilie sites listed allow you to use them on your board or site anyway, you just need to save them and upload them to your own webspace.
Always make sure that the site does allow you to use them, if you are not sure, ask the site owner.

So I'm incredibly embarrassed to be posting a question like this, but I did try searching around to find the answer and couldn't. (I'm guessing it's such an obvious thing that everyone already knows how to do it and I'm just being dense. )
From a site that offers their smilies for other people to copy and use (so I'm not stealing anything!), there are some animated smilies. When I right-click and scroll down to "Save Picture As...", I'm getting a simple static picture.
What am I doing wrong? How can I copy an animated smilie to use on my ezboard site?

I've encountered that static from time to time, I think it is a problem with the graphic itself, I just move on.
You can't save it to anything if it is staticky.

My computer won't let me save it as a gif file because it doesn't reconize it as one. So when I save an aninated smiley, the animation stops. Is there any way I can correct this problem.

If your PC does not allow gif's to be saved via the internet, empty your internet cache, it is full.

Add mine to the list if you wish please. It's an Ezboard I soley own that has categorized emoticons, at last count 1500 or so ... collected from various freeware sites on the internet. It is MBA due to bandwidth issues of course, ... it is intended for established Ezboard users only pretty much just to come save emotes (no hotlinking).
No pop ups, as the board's gold, so it's easier to surf than some other sites out there.
I do not make emotes, I collect them, have been for three years. The same emotes you may see on thirty freeware sites you'll likely find categorized on my board.
I do at least two updates a month. Been working on the board and have had it for I think a year now.
