So what do you guys think about last Friday's scenes?
I swear time stands still when he's on. He's playing him so relaxed... and he pumped up the volume on that quality Al has about wanting something from life... life itself actually, so its more on a melodramatic level now...

I'm not crazy about Looney Tunes, but its great to see NM interact as Al with her, since Al was so close to her, and I always thought that the VOTN thing was an inclination that she might have inspired as she did a radio station love line.

I'd be perfectly happy to see him in scenes with only Marcie... but hea... NM just plays so well off everyone... I loved that Al got to say goodbye to his father... Max sensed it, and it did my heart good.

I especially liked the face NM made when he looked at his father. A son couldn't love a father more. Made me cry.

Ran across article I wrote for online rag that never took hold, while taking inventory of disks of saved things over the years. Excerpt:

"Someone once told me in the OLTL chatroom that they don't miss a day of OLTL because a day without OLTL could feel like a cold day without putting on their warm fuzzy slippers. What did this fan mean? Perhaps she was referring to watching Carlotta doing quite a job "cleaning up" at the poker table, listening to Smokey Robinson put out the old school jams. Or maybe this fan meant that watching an intense moment on our favorite soap listening to a dramatic fluty piece of music in the background can make us sense a fresh and innocent feeling in the air. Well, this is a soap OPERA after all.
I've heard it said that OLTL can feel like the rain that pours or the lightening that crashes, as the band, Live, would sing. Whether we're being provoked to tears while watching Max grieve for Luna with their song "I Still Believe in You" playing... or to blows hearing the sound of Delores O'Riordan's voice (of the Cranberries) reverberating "What's in Your Head" from "Zombie" reverberating throughout Rodi's as Blair blasts Max for dirty dealing, OLTL has been hitting the mark for awhile now...
Perhaps some of the most gripping music selections is yet to come for those of us who are romantics. My personal recommendation is to keep an ear open to Natalie Merchant's introspective songs that have been floating around Llanview. I dedicate "Wonder" to baby Starr."

Not enuf. Never enuf. Still good. He obviously doesn't want to let go of Marcie. It looked like it was killing him to tell her to move on. Of course when she said, "Life? What life? Your my life." I basically sobbed. (See, this is good tv, but I am trying to avoid ever being in the position to say that to anybody-EVER.)
Anyhoo, Al also looks like he is plottin and plannin something to get back to her. Let's not forget Al can manipulate to get what he wants. I am hoping that whoever this new guy he is going to come back as, that has ties to McBain, I hope he has some dirt about him. Give NM something to chew on. I also hope they don't make Marcie one note. They had her developing b4 and I know she has to stagnate a bit for mourning, but I hope she doesn't stop growing as a character. They r both 2 good 2 play one note characters.
I thought it was funny that Marcie is supposed to be meek and yet she had no problem bossing Al around. When she told Al to jump, he jumped.

Well, considering how many Michael Easton fans have been dropping by here, TPTB have to be idiots not to realize that a supernatural story should have ties to Michael Easton... I've only called the comment line about it 3 times. I have no doubt about it being something to chew on though.. the possibilites are endless... once you cross the boundary of real into supernatural...

I think that she has been capable before, even back in the day with Jen, but she'd look down after saying it, or weasle like that on some level... it wasn't firm. To make her someone Al could POSSIBLY be attracted to though, she had to be upped to some backbone... I think that being his tutor put her in a role where she is a guiding force in his life, and he's always responded to her guidance. The day she crosses to REALLY bossy, however, could spell trouble in paradise.

U think? I don't, not if they keep Al-no offense-but he has gone really soft since hookin' up w/ Marcie. He is just perfect boyfriend. He had a flicker of a#$ kicker w/ Deke and they let it drop. He is completely whipped. I said at the diner the other day Marcie should bottle it and sell it. Cuz' that boy is tamed. If they dont' add an edge to himw/ this storyline then they shouldn't bother to bring him back as a different character. Leave him as Al. They have to be getting ready to add something funky to hook him up w/ ME. Can't wait.

You know, I wonder if that's why some Marcal fans aren't happy with the idea of NM playing Al, but a different character to everyone else. They're afraid he'll change? Or that he'll get an edge? Or that he won't be the perfect Romeo in the end? Personally that would get boring to me, I'd love to see Marcal fight (then make up, of course). Part of the reason those intervention scenes were so powerful is because NM/KB argue so well. Heck, they do everything well! But I definitely want to see an edge to Al, I've said that before. And some manipulation too, he can do it. I saw the scenes with him trying to get Jen to admit the baby was his- he did some major scheming/manipulating on that one, and all I could think was "Gee, dude is SMART!" I miss that intelligence about Al. Now that he's clear headed again I'd like to see more of that come to the fore.

Marcie: Gosh, I love it when fellas do big, manly stuff.
Al: Yeah, well I never shy away from an opportunity to look studly.

I am with you Kathy. Of course you love Al, he is a fabulous, loving, supportive, yes-baby-whatever-you-need-baby kind of boyfriend. Which is great. But how long are you gonna watch that? I love all the loving stuff about Marcal, but I've said this before. I loved when they used to snap at each other. They were honest then and they can still be honest with each other, but they don't have to agree with everything the other says. A good fight and makeup sex is necessary for everyone once in awhile.

Marcal fans need to realize that strife is necessary to keep your character on screen. The writers/producers are not gonna have a whole show of Marcie and Al goin' to get ice cream. I think someone writes fanfic about that kind o of stuff and yes, u want to see your couple happy and part of the reason so many people relate to Marcal is bcuz they r realist. It just ain't gonna happen on screen. I think that is another reason they didn't have a problem killing of Al in the first place. U have a kid, bit of a rough childhood, gets wacked out over a girl, developes a drug problem and then is saved by an angel in disguise. Well after the angel cleans him up and makes him essentially perfect, what else can u do w/ perfect guy? He doesn't get in any iffy situations or do anything that will get him in trouble bcuz he is perfect. No more mistakes for him to make. Now granted they could have just altered the character a bit and kept him alive, but it is a soap. Wouldn't want them to think to hard about a character they have written into the hole. Anyhoo, to answer your question alot of people don't want him to get an edge.

Its fun to see Al whipped for the right girl after what we saw with Jen and Natalie.. him being humbled by Marcie was part of the fun, instead of him being Jen's lap dog... he was sniffing the right woman this time...

But he's been alot of brawn sans brains since Marcie... Marcie provided the "head on straight"... The idea that Al is manipulating heaven itself sounds promising... I think that a couple as young as Al and Marcie are going to have to hit some bumps in the road in order to grow anyways, and I'd like to see how Marcie copes with the side of Al that can't hide out forever... I believe Al grew, but given the right circumstances, he'd do some fancy footwork, and possibly try to hide it from Marcie. Now, how to make Marcie a more interesting character too is the question, without making her a goodygoody... maybe scheme with him because SHE's so whipped... and blow Al away. I just have no idea WHERE to go with my spin about Marcal because I just have no idea what is going to happen in this unusual story.
