Posted: 10/11/01 1:19 pm WARNING!! Custom apps/customizations and the Ezboard cookie Accessing the Ezboard Cookie via third party script/s
Ezboard creates a cookie on users' computers that allows the system (Ezboard) to recognise that they are logged in. This cookie is for the use of the system (Ezboard) only. While various scripts have been written and circulated that allow a board admin or ezop to identify who is on their board by accessing the user's cookie, the use of these scripts is expressly prohibited.
The recent use of a cookie script to greet a user by name was allowed, however it will be so no longer. If you use this on your board you are advised to remove it. It must also be removed from signatures, however if it present in existing posts you do not have to edit each one to remove it.
Granting Admin Powers on your board
Please note that ezboard does NOT support any custom applications or customization. If you use any of these "services" you should understand that they are not affiliated with ezboard in any way. Use them at your own risk. This especially concerns granting of admin power. Give it only to people whom you trust as an administrator can do anything, like deleting all your forums/posts, etc., because you have explicitly authorized them to do anything they see fit when you granted them admin access.
Because of the extreme cost of restoring data from backup (we must submit a restore request to our co-location) we will no longer be able to restore board content that is lost due to poor admin selection.
So please choose your admins wisely.
Thanks for using ezboard.

Posted: 2/5/03 7:16 am Update
As of last week, ezboard no longer allows the use of ANY script that accesses user cookies. We realize many of the scripts are harmless, but they tend to worry some of our more-internet-savvy users, and cookie access represents a security risk under certain circumstances. Therefore, in the interest of having an easier rule to follow and to administrate, we no longer allow scripts that access cookies, period.
We understand that the "greeting" script is out there and in use on quite a few boards. Accordingly, the extent of our "crackdown" will be to respond to complaints of the use of the script, and to ensure that its use is discontinued at the specific board in question.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
-- From ezboard Legal Department
Update: A board can set a cookie of it's own providing it does not touch the Ezboard cookie in any way.
