Wizards Not Named Harry
So what exactly do the other Wizards do with their time?

They all seem to keep away from regular society but if they are essentially human how do they earn money for food and nicer robes than what Harry owns? Ebenezar has a farm so that is believable but others, like the Gatekeeper and others who are physically "different" wouldn't blend in as well. Do they create what they need to satisfy their physical needs by using magic and if that is an accepted way of doing things why doesn't Harry do that?

Especially now that he wants to devote so much time to finding a cure for Susan. If this were an option to him you'd think that he'd cave in and give up his pride and do what he had to do to save her.

Harry seems to work because he needs to. So if he needs to then why don't the others?

The Gatekeeper
This is a very interesting character. How he is written makes me think that either he is a sage Wizard who has a great understanding of how things really work or he is perhaps one of the forces at play in trying to control things. He does strike me as someone who is beyond such simple concepts as good or evil. He seems to exist more as a force. He seems very old. Perhaps older than any of the other wizards.

If "the Merlin" is maybe Merlin from Arthurian legend (don't know this yet but it will be assumed by me and others) and if the Gatekeeper is even older then he is extemely old indeed.

Wizards and Longevity
The Wizards depicted in Summer Knight seem to be extemely old, in particular the Gatekeeper and the Merlin. Based on the name, the Merlin may have some connection to Arthurian legend and that may or may not come up in the course of the series. That would be interesting for a time travel storyline, but of course Harry would never time travel because that would be *wrong*. ;-)

I wonder if the Wizards in the Harryverse live unusually long lives and if so, if it's connected to their harnessing of magical forces or if their inherent magical abilities results in their longevity? In other words, is it naturally occurring because they are wizards or does it result from something they do?

Ebenezar seems to be an older man and he could in theory actually be a couple of hundred years old or merely in his 70's. It is not revealed. He seems to be one of the oldest Wizards so therefore he looks. The Wizards that are older than him seem to have less of an interest in the council as evidenced by their absence from the meeting. Perhaps had Harry not been involved Ebenezar might not have wanted to attend either. The older the Wizards become, the more ascetic and almost hermitlike they seem to be. That's kind of interesting.

This all makes me wonder how long Harry will live if he isn't bumped off first by demons, werewolves, former girlfriends or other things that go bump in the night. :-)
