Women gamers and the mall
So I am at a mall doing some shopping and there is a table with two dudes sitting at it trying to solicit gamers into their store. They are dressed in the requisite black attire, colorful hair and chains as an accessory item.
They have coupons to hand out and two computers on which two games are being displayed.
They are COMPLETELY ignoring girls who walk by!! I watch for like 10 minutes and can't STAND IT any more and go over to their table. They are handing out coupons and free stuff to guys walking by and NOT to girls????
(brief synopsis of our dialogue)
So I say "hi yaz. what's up?"
First clueless wonder: nothin.
Mauel: whatcha handin out? Freebies?
Second clueless wonder: you wouldn't be innerested. We do online gaming.
Mauel: zat a fact. really?
/e Mauel nods and gives the boyz her best mommy-look.
First clueless wonder: turns beet-red and stammers. Uh.... we play computer games. Y'know, using a computer and a connection.
Second clueless wonder: babbling on about games and boys and I have turned off this drivel.
/e Mauel clenches both fists and cracks her knuckles, rolling her head side to side making more bone-cracking sounds.
Second clueless wonder: yeah, totally hawt gamez online! Sumthin you don't know about.
Mauel: hmm.... look my sweet lil clueless wonders..... <pause> I am Mauel Luminystic, barbarian shaman of the 59 lvl on Prexus, formerly of Terris-Thule. I am Cherrysh Nardis of EQ2, Nardis of WoW and Cherrysh Crimson Myst of City of Heroes.
FCW: o @#%$.
SCW: what? dude!!
FCW: I have heard of Mauel.
SCW: no sheet, man!!
SCW: /em points at me in disbelief and laughs
Mauel: point made and taken, you noobs? Hand out the damn coupons to everyone cuz ya never know. (still giving the arched eyebrow look)
FCW: hand Mauel a coupon, idiot.
They start to strongly converse on who told who to hand out coupons and so on. I take one, smile and leave.
lol, I love that! I, too have had some wierd looks when asking for EQ in a store. And I have to say I love breaking the stereotype of what a player is.

p.s. when i am in the mall at a game store can i use your name mauel? if you are famous n stuff i might get a discount. apparently the halas tales haven't reached mainstream about me yet.

Those two kinda remind me of my room mate at my recent training. As luck would have it, he is also an EQ player. He played for about four years. We started talking about EQ one night and kept talking about it for close to three hours. Finally, he asked what server I played on and was freaked out when I told him TT. That was the server he had played on his whole time. Of course, he then asked me what my NPC name is and what guild I was in. Once I told him the name Cinabre, he absolutely would not believe me. I had to get him off base a few days later and log onto EZBoard for him to believe me. When he saw me view the posts here and go into my user profile, he started to come around. I then showed him my log-in to Magelo, which finally proved it to him. For whatever reason, he just could not fathom a male playing a female NPC in an all female guild.
Some start clueless and stay that way.

LOL cin, that's hilarious. lots of folks i know look at me (I'm a bit Greenhelmish in real life) and think, how do you roleplay your hot female rogue so well rofl. I also have a bunch of D and D'rs that can't understand why i always play female rogues there too lol. simple minds.

I suppose he'd be just as startled to find some of the big burly male warriors in the game have female bodies pushing the buttons.
Mauel your post made me laugh. I too am a rl female. When EQ expansions come out, I generally go to Gamestop with my stepson. I ALWAYS get questions when I buy 2. hehe.

I love the wide-eyed looks from the clerks when I go to buy something and they always ask if it is for my son and I say nope, for me.

P.S I tried torturing Naltiki on where she gets her autumn crocus supply. She is one tough lil lady!! I didn't use anything physical. I just held some 10-dose Gate potions over her head and watched her jump a while. So don't worry.
