Re: nailpolish
No No... don't use paint... EVER.
I am not sure because I don't wear polish, but I have heard that Zoya products (at salons) are really incredible. I also happen to know her son, but that is besides the point. You can buy them at any salon.
Re: nailpolish
I have found that using a base and top coat really helps. It's a major pain because it means you are doing 2-3 more layers than usual, but it's worth it.
I use cheap stuff...sally hanson or revlon or whatever and it's fine.

Eh, I have never been able to make nailpolish work. I've only once bothered with a professional manicure -- even that didn't work all that well. But the hand massage bit was nice.

Re: nailpolish
HA! I've found the answer to your problem! Hopefully, anyway.
It may be that your nails are clean when you polish them. I suddenly started having problems and couldn't figure out why until I read that you should make sure your hands are free of lotion first. I don't use lotion much, but I do use a really lotion-y moisturizing handsoap. So, I swiped my nails with remover first, rinsed and dried them and voila! My nailpolish stuck on just fine. Again, it was just cheapo stuff, so you might try that before you go out and spend $20 on salon products.
If you come back and tell me that doesn't work, I'm going to cry I think. You don't know how often I have thought about this problem over the last few months. Your nails are like a part of my emotional health now.
Re: nailpolish
I almost never use nail polish because I bite my nails, and the nail polish ends up looking verrrrry weird.
Does anyone know a trick for getting the nail polish to NOT go all over when you apply it, and is there any good way to put nail polish on your writing hand (besides getting someone else to do it for you, that is)?
Re: nailpolish
oooh, I know a way to stop it from sticking on your fingers, but it's kind of tricky. What you do is use a Q-tip to put Vaseline around your nails on the skin (before painting) and nail polish won't stick to it. The only hard part is not getting any of it on your nails themselves, but it works great!
Re: nailpolish
Hmm, you know what I do to keep it on, After the first day's polishing, I add one layer of color and one of clear every day. Re-polish the whole set once a week. That's how I keep mine from chipping.
Re: nailpolish
well i don't think there is any way to keep it from chipping except get a decent base and top coat

Re: nailpolish
You know what's been holding up really well for me? The new nailpolish that Avon is coming out with. Their topcoat is really good too, I've had the same color on for over a week and it's not chipping....with no touch ups!
Re: nailpolish
The Zoya is the best I've ever tried, and there are several sites selling it now. It will last a whole week without chipping, and it's not luck, it's their formula. Do a search for "zoya, polish" and you'll get hits. I was lucky enough to get in on their Glamour magazine special a couple of years ago and got it for a song. I tried several shades and this stuff wore like iron.
Another secret is the light-setting topcoats. I think several lines have it now, and the acrylic nail techs use it. If you've ever had your nails done, remember when they were finished and asked you to hold your freshly top-coated nails under the lamp? They use it right on top of your wet polish and it does some kind of chemical hocus-pocus under the lamp and seals it.
Now if only it came in those tiny disposable one-use bottles that Mary Kay uses for nail polish samples! They are the coolest thing I've ever seen; you twist the cap off and the little brush pops out, you squeeze the plastic bottle and polish flows out on the brush. It has enough polish for 2-3 coats for your nails *and* toenails, then you throw the thing away. Too cool!

Re: nailpolish
Anika, i know her, Zoya Is that funny or what? I used to be best pals with her son
Re: nailpolish
I work as a hand model and this is a big problem for me. I have to moisturise my hand so much the nail polish ends up just peeling off!
Will try the zoya polish though it looks good. Another tip is to buff your nails properly before you put the polish on that way it goes on smooth in the first place.
