Evening wear suggestions, anyone?
I have a few sites that I visit to get ideas for my evening updates - everything from Neiman's to a German Goth site.
But I want more, more! Do you know of a site that I should take a look at? Show me the sites that feature the type of evening wear you'd like to see offered at Boutika.
Now, post those links! (Or if you don't have a particular link, then just tell me the sort of thing you'd like to see us offer in our evening section.)
I've always wanted for you what you've wanted for yourself
and yet I wanted to save us high water or hell
and I kept on ignoring the ambivalence you felt
and in the meantime I lost myself
in the meantime I lost myself
I'm sorry I lost myself
I am.
This thread seems a little old, but I thought I'd still post something. Inspiration shouldn't stop ...
There was a fashion designer called Erte (French pronounciation for "R.T" his intials - his Russian name was Remain de Tirtoff) whose work spanned the early 20th century. He designed for Fashion magazines of the time such as Harpers and theatre, and his designs are really elegant, fantastical ... beads, long drapy cloaks, feathers, fur ... I imagine that some may be too elaborate for Sims, but it may serve as general inspiration!
It was hard to find links that would show you examples. If you are interested, I suggest going to check out some proper books on his work from the library - I personally prefer the standard black and white line drawings myself.
Re: Evening wear suggestions, anyone?
Hey there! As for eveningwear, I haven't found much of any site that features what I want! What I think is really important in a good evening gown is texture. I've recently found one (I can't remember where, aaah!) where the dress was black with almost a quilted print, and it looks AMAZING in the game...it's all about the TEXTURE, girls!!!
Re: Erte
What wonderful links, Chennie! Thank you for posting them. I'll be sure to take a longer look at them and see if some of the designs could be adapted for The Sims. My background is in the visual arts, so I'm somewhat familiar with Erte's work. I was thinking he'd done some costume design for the Ballet Russes, but didn't notice any mention of that as I scanned the sites - so now it's driving me nuts! Am I just mistaken about that?
The difficulty in doing designs like Erte's, with those glorious cascades of beads, etc., lies in designing the mesh for the outfit - more particularly, how to make the mesh look good without it also being a really large file size. It's something I've been experimenting with for a while now, though. So hopefully, some day . . . .
Re: Evening wear suggestions, anyone?
I agree, Roxxa. Lately I've been working on texturing for lighter weight fabrics and discovering that getting gauze to look like gauze, or silk to look like silk can be quite a challenge. The basic meshes that the game requires just work against it. Still, it's fun to attempt and hopefully I'm learning something in the process.
Let us know if you remember where you saw the outfit you mentioned. I'd enjoy seeing it!
I found it!
Hey girls! I found the dress I mentioned in my last post...and there's other dresses in there that are just beautiful. Have a look! www.studiokrioni.simvibes.com/mainframeset.htm
AH I love it!!
I found a dress here that I fell in love with! It isn't evening-gown formal, but its sort of swanky-party formal so I thought I would mention it. After you click on the link, and pick a barbie to use, choose SHOPPING, and its the pink dress at the far right end of the rack. I thought maybe in the future of Boutika, there could be a sort of Casual-Formal section featuring dresses like these. Tell me what you think!

I had 40 Barbies (and 2 Kens and 1 Skipper) when I was a kid. Played with them for years, and then one day, I cut all their hair off, and that was the end of that.
I think that the newer Barbies in their fluorescent colours are not as nice as the Barbies of the 80s and 90s which were more feminine and glamourous.
I just found out about <b>Sultry Earth</b> reopening (YAY!) and they have, by far, some of the best skins on the net....you need to check them out! Sultry Earth
