Quote: I have AOL, how do I upload pictures to AOL?
Go to keyword My FTP Space
Click on See My FTP Space
If you want to have folders and subfolders use the Create Directory button.
You may want to call the first directory (folder) ezboard and the 2nd photos. You can have more than one subdirectory in a directory. I suggest that you keep the names simple as they become part of the URL to your image. Double click on a directory name to open it , in order to add images to the folder.
To upload , click on Upload. In the next box, type in the name of your image and the type. Example personalphoto.gif. If you type personalphoto and no extension, you get the dreaded red X. Be sure Binary is selected and hit continue. Hit select file and use the next box to find where the image is stored on your computer. Then hit send.
I've found that you need to have everything ready and turn off IM's. If you have to spend a lot of time looking for things or get interupted, the system will hang up for several minutes. If this happens or you get interupted, close the pages down until you get back to the main FTP page and start over.
If you forget the extension or call it a gif when it's really a jpg, use the Utilities button to rename the file. You have to have selected the file you want to rename, before you hit Utilities
Your image url will be in this format http://members.aol.com/screenname/directory/subdirectory/imagename.extension
I usually go to my directory to find the exact url and copy it from the browser bar rather than trying to type it all. Your directory is at http://members.aol.com/screename/, just bookmark that.

I do a lot of boards and sigs for people and have a few boards. I host tons of images. If anyone else needs a lot of space, Boomspeed had worked for me. It costs $6 a month, but thats 100 meg account. They have a free service, but will cut you off if the images aren't for auction sites. Their server has gone down twice, for extended periods, that is,over one hour, twice in the past year. Not bad.

Hi,
Having gone from one free host to the next and then either running out of free bandwidth or having the host decide to charge, I began searching for an economical image host and found the following to be ideal for my needs:

Does village photos put really annoying urls in the image once they host it?

This one I recommend to everyone. 20mb free, free remote linking and you can upload up to 1mb at a time.
All you have to do is sign up for an aol screename or use the one you already have.

I am not sure how often this thread is updated, so forgive me for posting this twice,
MiamiHost
is only 1MB (one) and the catch is you have to sign in once a month and it has to be the first week of every month.
haha
also www.1asphost.com it has a lot of space 100mb (one hundred) however they NO LONGER allow hotlinking. go to their site and read their terms of service.

Ok, I'm confused and very happy that my ISP gives me 7 free accounts, and each has storage, hosting, browsing and linking functions. I have a board with a load of graphics, some of the animated and huge and have just finally filled one. I do need to clean out some of the older buttons, banners and backgrounds that I wasnt happy with tho.

agree with sutured , 90% of free image hosting sites not guarantied thet they will host your image, files tomorrow or after tomorrow.
free sites rip so fast(just remember BOOM of free hosting sites -most of them was slosed after year or so)
i host my files at www.imagezs.com
for only $4.89 i have 500M and 10Gb monthly traffic.
so its much more then you can get at both of the sites at 1st topic of this thread.

Just a note on villagephotos.com....
Though they offer a limited free hosting service, they do NOT allow direct linking until you pay for the upgrade.

i have to add this because there are suprising few people who know about them, these are hands down the best free image hosting services any where.

Just to let you guys know, Angelfire does in fact have a free account option. I wouldn't choose them though simply because they are starting to crack down on people who link images that they are hosting to other sites.
Posted: 6/29/04 3:22 am Re: Free Image Hosting Sites & New Image FAQ ( 20 Februa
^ that's why I wasn't going to change anything on that. I dislike Angelfire for that reason among others. A lot, not just Angelfire, of free image hosting sites really go downhill from very huge significant bandwidth usage. Bandwidth costs money, thus, the word "free" no longer exists.
Posted: 7/3/04 10:55 pm Re: Image Hosting Sites ( Updated 09 June 2004 )
ImageLink.org (www.imagelink.org ) is the best one I have found. They offer a lot of features I couldn't find anywhere else. It's free but they offer paid plans too if you need a lot more. It has no image size cap and allows hotlinking...and they don't put a logo on your images.
That is true, but as Imagelink plainly states on their home page:
"We're a place for you to store those images online you want to show your friends.
"A place to put family photos so people can view them as easy as a click of a link.
"A place for you to store that killer screenshot you took after getting past a boss in your favorite game.
"A place to host and easily manage images for your ebay auctions.
"A gallery to show off your artwork."
Thus while they do allow remote linking, it seems to be mainly for Ebay and for other auction sites, not discussion forums.

A friend in my DAOC guild was the one who told me about the site and he has used it for a while. I asked him if it was mainly for ebay hosting and he said not at all, and told me to look at the skins box on the left side. They have like 4 site skins and a few of them were for games, so I guess they do hosting for all kinds of stuff.
I forgot about the bandwidth limit...I haven't ever hit it so forgot about it. I read a post by one of the people that runs that site about maybe removing it but I don't know if they did or not.
Posted: 7/28/04 10:44 am Re: Image Hosting Sites ( Updated 09 June 2004 )
I don't know if they have already been mentioned, but, it needs to be known by everybody...
Note on the page, you have to figure out which category your "site" will fit into, then scroll ALL the way down to the bottom and select which category. This is a bit confusing, until you follow my instructions.
I don't know what types of files they let you host, but there is no limit on size (I believe) and virtually unlimited space and bandwidth. Do not, I repeat DO NOT use USALL to host your page... that is, unless you want 500 pixels of advertisements on the top and bottom of every page.
To host my web page, I use (at this time of writing) FateBack.
60 MB and a very small toolbar-type banner at the top of every page. It's not very intrusive. Perfect for site hosting. FTP and browser uploads. It's perfect.
P.S. - I know, people don't like larger font or color customization, but, it needed to be that way.
