Re: Image hosting
www.0hosts.com/webhosts.php

The above site has comparisons of over 500 FREE webhosts.

there is an alphabetical listing for them

I will let you read through them to determine if they allow remote linking..I am too lazy too

There is also a section with "cheap" webhosts listed.

I hope this is of some use to some.

Re: Image hosting
There is also www.sigrealm.com (though they seem to suffer from bandwidth troubles every so often).

Re: Image hosting
www.ranchoweb.com is becoming a pay site. You now have to pay for images.

These are a big help, but something I would like to know is if they allow animated images.

I used to use ranchoweb.com but I don't want to pay. Now I'm and most of my forum's members that i hang out at are looking for a new one that does allow animations.

Thanks a lot! :)

Re: Image hosting
www.imagemagician.com/

they where a really good free host, but now they offer only two weeks to see if you like their service.
it is only 9.95 per year, so it is cheap, and very easy to use.

good luck all!

sabrina

Re: Image hosting
Apparently Angelfire now allows remote downloading of images, but I use Sphosting. Angelfire, in the past, has had downtime when doing maintenance, and your images come up as broken. But just a little FYI. :)

Re: Image hosting
My only comment is that so far, so good.

The Digimon RPG Board (that I am in charge of graphics for) uses Fortunecity for almost all of our images. (i.e. -> The Board Graphics and the character images within posts and bios.)

You can't use FC for "Storage Only". You have to create a website under their TOS. Even if it's a one-page site, you have to have an index page in your account. They do allow hotlinking of images from site to site, regardless of this.

We also have a few images pulled from Angelfire with no problems so far.

These are the only two free servers I personally use/know of that work.

Re: Image Store Update
I used pixelpainting.com to create and host my personal photo.

They charged $16 for this, but they are currently offering a free avatar creation and hosting service.

Re: Image hosting
fahe,

freewebs.com does not allow hotlinking for their free accounts. Uploaded images in those accounts can be used only for a web page that you create at their website, and that is limited to 500MB bandwidth transfer per month.

This is clearly stated in their frequently-asked-questions section. You have to upgrade to a premium account there to be able to hotlink. Their premium prices start at $9/month.

Two of the other places you mentioned...

www.speedis.org -- Some people have trouble accessing that website because of a slow connection.

www.picserver.tk -- This is a Dutch-based site that is donor-supported. Their reliability is unknown and caution should exercised when going there since the owner states on their hompage, "This service will stay free for as long as I can provide it. If I decide to close it, there is almost nothing you can do!"

Re: Image hosting
I am not sure if this is where to post this, but I am very happy with this place, I have used them for about 2 yrs. only once had short downtime. they do charge a SMALL fee...and offer specials, and allow remote linking to EZ boards....EZ should really look into them.. I am very happy with them.

www.ranchoweb.com

Edit: removed affiliate section of the url. We do not allow affiliate links in these forums, sorry.

Re: Image hosting
I've heard it said before, but not in great detail, so I'll go through the information about my own host.

Image Magician

I've been a member here for a year and my images have only went down once, but hitting refresh on the page and they were back up. Currently, I have over 2667814bytes of images stored here, of different file types, mpegs are allowed.

You get the first two weeks of 1MB free, and then you have to purchase one of their plans to keep your images. Their plans are inexpensive, and it is worth it since the bandwidth is UNLIMITED.

1MB for a year is 9.99
4MB for a year is 16.99...and so on and so on.

and you don't have to pay by the year..you can do it month by month if you prefer.

FTP is browser enabled..upload directly from your pc, up to 10 images at a time.

** At this time they are not accepting new accounts, but keep an eye on them if you are interested, because so far, they are the only ones I've seen this stable AND this easy. This place is perfect for the beginner.**

Re: Image hosting
Also I wanted to add that using your ISP is great, as long as your ISP supports the service.

My ISP does not, and the only thing that is predictable about them is how often my images will go down in a night.

Keep in mind that if it is free, there is always a catch. Just my two cents.:)
