Re: ....
We had a newsa crew on our set Sunday and then she called Monday wanted know it was OK for here to interview my lead's (Zack) work to know what they thought about him playing Danny Rolling!!!!
He does all kinds of local TV and radio. That would have screwed him up BAD. I had to plead with her hot to fuck up the guys life just for a story. He's already lost a month and a halfs work of work because he's playing this character.
So far we have shot 20 pages out of a 100 in 6 days and have around 3 and 1/2 hours of rough footage.
We've shot all the easy dialog stuff at the beginning of the script and we're starting to get into the horror stuff now. I just ordered a varizoom remote focus and Iris. This is a must have for anyone shooting HD. The picture is so sharp that the focus is very unforgiving. Now we can do that cool push in's and rack focus stuff we couldn't do before.
I'm also building a new steradicam thing. It's a copy of the Fig Rig. I'll let you guys know how it works when we shoot this coming up weekend.
Re: GAINESVILLE RIPPER BLOG
Here's a link to the Fig Rig steady system. This is a steadycam type thing that was invented by Mike Figgis (leaving Las Vegas). It's a simple concept so I'm building my own. I'll get some pics off it up by beginning of next week.
Just got the word that I'll have another 5 grand invested in the movie beginning of September. Also Zack (Danny Rolling) is gonna be selling collectable action figures on the Home shopping network next week.
I was also informed that a gainesville news station is going to airing a story about our movie and it's impact in Gainesville sometime before the execution (october 25th) and it will be availible to watch streaming on the internet. There's also a possibility it might run nationally.

Re: GAINESVILLE RIPPER BLOG
Went to the Danny Rolling execution today. Pronouced dead at 6:13 pm. I was there videotaping shot for the end of the movie. THere were 200+ people there. About 50 of them were carring camera's.I videotaped the media more than anything.
I got a good shot of a reporter sneaking his mic in close behind a guy leading anti-capital punishment prayer service.
One side was for the 'don't kill Danny' folk and another for the 'kill the bastard' crowd.
The better interviews were on the 'kill the bastard side' so we hung out with folk and interviewed them for the collage that ends the movie.
It was crazy the amount of people that knew Zack was playing Danny in the movie. He was talking the whole time. He also interviewed the people for me.
They then had a press confernce which was crammed with 30+ cameras and (I swear) a podium with 20 microphones on it. I taped that shit along with everone else like I belonged there.
Cool thing was that Walyan Clifton who was the police chief at the time actually came up to zack and talked to him for 20 minutes about why the movie is a story that needs to be told. I then went up to him a had a great conversation with him about stuff I can't repeat...................
Basically we got him on our side!!!!! That's gonna make it so we can actually shoot in Gainesville with police help.
That shit is gonna make our Gainesville shots kick ass. I can get streets in Gainesville, Car clubs for vintage cars, extra, a crane/jib on the sidewalk. !!!!!!!!!
Re: GAINESVILLE RIPPER BLOG
I was jsut reading about yesterday's execution in the paper this morning and headed over here to see how it went. The authentic footage is going to turn out great for the film!

Re: GAINESVILLE RIPPER BLOG
That was one of the more surreal days I've experianced for sure. EVERYONE knew Zack!!! He has a TV show in Gainesville so he's kinhda locally famous. NOT ONE person said anything negative about the fact we were making a movie. That's what surprised me most. People asked us not to glorify Danny (we're not) but other than that everyone was cool.
Zack even signed a someone's "Burn in Hell Danny" sign!!!!! I'll never forget that day. The fucking guy who was Cheif of police during the murders actually came to us and said he was cool with the movie. That shit was totally unexpected.
I'll put some footage online next week. We're doing a media blitz in a few weeks so the site's gonna get updated and were cutting s few teaser scenes together.
I Don't know if Danny found out we were making a movie, but if he, did he knew it was me paying for it out of my pocket and there wasn't a famous star playing him - and that suits me just fine. I'm glad he's dead, he was a piece of shit. I'd rather die nothing nothing about the movie, he killed for the fame and I hope dying robbed him out knowing a movie was made about him.
It's still all over the news he confessed to three murders he did in Shreveport 8 months before murdering in Gainesville.
Everyone already knew that, hell I wrote the scene in the script 6-8 months ago. It was actually my favorite scene to write because he never said what went on their so I got to make up the mechanics of the murder (it gave me a chance to rip off Ebola Syndrome one more time - you know the part where he takes the kid hostage at the end and kills him on accident). Anyway it was a 24 year old girl he wanted to rape so he killed her 55 year old granddad and her 8 year old brother.
Danny sang a hymn as he was put to death. Zack said he saw it on youtube put they took it down. Can't find but I did find Zacks screen test on you YouTube:
youtube.com/watch?v=Dq1L0KHUO0c
FUCK MAN I'M SOOOOOO STOKED I ACTUALLY FUCKING DIRECTED H.G. LEWIS IN MY FEATURE FILM DEBUT!!!!!!!
We shot our scenen and then he sang the 2000 MANIACS song witha banjo player and did commentery while a vintage 35mm print of 2000 MANIACS played.
I Videotaped so I was right near H.G. and actually ended mderating his discusion by defualt. Basicaly when ever H.G. got slow anhd had nothing to say, I asked A question or made a comment. I did this through out the whole movie and it was basically as if only he and were watching the movie and I could comment or ask a question whenever. Tolly cool shit. '
They gave as badges made out of rope and shaped like a noose just big enough to hang a cat with hehe.
I got it all on video and it show up on the net somewhere. I think there gonna send the footage to Fangoria.com or Ain titcoolnews. Not my call, but I can put up a few minutes if I want.
I'll also upload the H.G. Lewis scene we shot. It's fuckin awesome!!!!!!

Re: GAINESVILLE RIPPER BLOG
Here's the skinny on what's going on. Holidays are coming up so were shooting easy stuff still the end of the year. I just got the casting director from Automaton Transfusion officially on board to help fill out the cast with actors who are as good as Zack.
Your acting is only as good as is worst link so I'm having to go the extra mile to recast some roles. I got an up and coming casting director named Rita Manyette on board to make sure the rest of the actors can hold their own with the Zack Memos (the guy playing Danny Rolling). Zack is so fucking good and he's only getting better so I'm having to recast some parts with some pro's from Orlando.
Hard part is finding non-S.A.G. actors who can keep up with the guy. I'm even paying out of my pocket for some actors just to keep the quality up.
Cool thing is I get to meeet a bunch of pretty girls who all want to be victims. I got 6 females victims, 2 male and 1 child victim in this flick not counting the fake slasher movie we have to shoot.
Not sure if I said this or not, but we were advised by the P.R. person who handled MONSTER to wait a few weeks till after the execiution to put out a press release. The main concern being we don't want someone else making a movie about Danny Rolling yet we don't want to sound like we decided to make a movie cause the guy made news being executed. Which is obviously not the case because we started preproduction before he even lost his last appeal.
I'm also about to start seriously editing. I'm sending out hardrives with footage to a few editors to see who comes up with the best shit. I also have to decide on on an editing workflow and stick with it.
I'm also about to try to get Gainesville's help so I can shoot some scenes there. Hopefully it won't be problem now that we got the ex-Police Chief on our side.
So that's what's going on anyway. Hope all this helps you future filmmakers out. I'm finding out the hard way that getting the movie in the can is only half the battle. The PR and buisness end is as much of the process as the end product. This is something nobody seems to think about before spending a year of their like making a movie on their own. I know I didn't.
I'm starting to run into these people who know I'm shooting a flick so they go on to tell me how 'One day I'm gonna shoot my own movies.I'm just waiting to go to film school"
Guys go to film school if you wanna move to Hollywood and get a job on a set. You know learn to change lens and get paid 2 grand a week.
If you wanna be a director......
Get your ass on someone else's set , work for free then make your own shit. Easy (haha that's a lie, it ain't easy but it seperates the men from the boys).
I've told so many kids this and all I get is exuses. I'm starting to think that's a good thing, cause without the drive your not gonna make a good movie anyway.
I know. I talked that same shit for years until someone told me 'your never gonna make a movie unless you go 'DO IT'.
