My friend has a PD150 and a HDR-FX1 and there both amazing cams. If your going to things right save up your money and buy something real nice, it will cut down on other expenses that you may have to pay out if you get a average camera.

8mm will do. There will be enough light in there. Plus, how many times would you actually watch the footage, if at all?

My cheap DV died within two years because of faulty wiring on the CCD chip that Sony sold Canon. They are fixing it now for free, but I ain't down like that.
If you get a Mini-DV, make sure it's good for low light (largest sensor you can find in your price range) and FIREWIRE/iLink is a must.
