Guitarist/vocalist Page Hamilton has teamed up with ex-ORANGE 9MM guitarist Chris Traynor and ROB ZOMBIE members Blasko (bass) and John Tempesta (drums) in an all-new version of HELMET, the acclaimed alt-rock outfit that is widely credited for the the jagged riffing and stop-start rhythms utilized by many "nü-metal" bands, including LIMP BIZKIT, DISTURBED and CHEVELLE.
Former NINE INCH NAILS keyboardist Charlie Clouser will produce the group's record, and a tour is being planned, according to MTV.com. In the meantime, the retrospective "Helmet Unsung: The Very Best of Helmet (1991-1997)" is due September 23.
no shit. I've seen this info posted a few other places as well. I'm a huge Stanier fan though, and it's somewhat disappointing to see Tempesta replace him... perhaps Stanier will remain with Tomahawk only as long as he is obligated?

I'm glad they're getting back together, so to speak, although they aren't Helmet without John and Henry. The question, though, is what will happen to Page's songs with Gandhi? I've got five which are excellent but will they just remain unreleased? Will Gandhi never make it as a band judging from this despite reports that they had enough material for an album and simply needed a record label? Will the Gandhi stuff be redone by the "new Helmet"? Just wondering...

bad news everyone helmet is not back and page is not going ahead with gandhi. but page has a song on an upcoming soundtrack to the movie underworld the song is called "throwing punches" i think that was a orignally a gandhi song
Looks to me like the new Helmet is a go, however, personally I don't think Tempesta will be able to generate the same sound that John creates. Same goes with Henry. Im going to have to agree with you guys and say that without John and Henry, this new lineup should might as well be called the Page Hamilton project or something along those lines.

If helmet is not back then why would MTV.com do a write up on them which states emphatically that they are going to tour for their Greatest Hits album with named supporting players.
I know Paige had some serious problems finding a label for Ghandi and that's pretty much in the toilet.

ok the news that helmet was back everyone posted it on every website, about 3 days later posted on billboard.com from page hamiltons management that the news was a just a rumour it is also on blabbermouth.net. so that is my answer and if you read the information from these sites im sure you will have your question answered.
so i take it no born annoying will be on this greatest hits or will they use the 1993 version maybe??
I'm all about this tour if it happens. I'm wondering if it'll be a full fledged USA tour, or certain parts, like ya know, whatever coast they decide to choose or something like that.

as much as i'd love to see this happen....
spetember 23rd is the release date they're touting, but i can't find a label that says they're releasing it (and you'd better believe that if any label was releasing this september 23rd, they'd be hyping it rightfrikkinnow), towerrecords.com doesn't list it on their upcoming releases, and the label that *i would guess* owns distribution rights to the years 91-97 (interscope) isn't listing anything about it either. so either this is a cruel cruel hoax, a peice of shoddy journalism, or another means by which my hopes are lifted momentarily adn then completely dashed. my personal opinion is that it's all 3.

" Contrary to published reports, HELMET have no plans at present to reunite for a tour in conjunction with a retrospective of the group's three studio albums for Interscope, due on November 4 through Universal Records.
"A management spokesperson for HELMET frontman Page Hamilton told Billboard.com that he was unsure how the rumor began, but confirmed that Hamilton is working on a new project with late-period HELMET guitarist Chris Traynor, among others. The two musicians recently played together on tracks intended for BUSH frontman Gavin Rossdale's solo debut.
"According to the spokesperson, Hamilton is no longer pursuing his band GANDHI, which featured former WHITE ZOMBIE drummer John Tempesta and ROB ZOMBIE bassist Rob Nicholson.
"Hamilton is currently unsigned, a fact that he found mildly irritating in light of the band's widespread influence among today's up-and-coming rock acts.

dammit, the news was destroyed almost as soon as it was discovered. And although it wouldn't have been very Helmet, it would have certainly been of interest.
If there was no chance of John Stanier being involved, they should have checked out Martin Lee from Regurgitator.

Helmet Reunion

page has resigned with interscope and is planning a new album in may june

I think Helmet fans will turn out to be happier with Tempesta on drums. He is way more dynamic and simply a better drummer. Tempesta is the one that got the ball rolling on the new Helmet project. The only thing to do now is wait and hear how much better they will be.
