Re: Harakel: Cain's Tavern cont.
"Nothing." she mumbled, tearing her gaze from the horizon behind them and returning her attention to the task at hand. "you'll want to adjust your course a bit." she pointed slightly to port. "just a little..."
Re: Harakel: Cain's Tavern cont.
Damon took the advice without comment, turning the wheel a little at her instruction. He was quiet for a bit, just standing there, until he finally glanced at her and broke the silence. "So how long does it take you to fly across the ocean?"
Re: Harakel: Cain's Tavern cont.
"It's been a long time since I was able to make the flight, but with a good tail wind, you can make it across in about two or three days." she replied rather sullenly.
Re: Harakel: Cain's Tavern cont.
Damon saw her sullen look and glanced at her wing. Never the most tactful one, he came right out with it. "What happened to your wing?"
Re: Harakel: Cain's Tavern cont.
Megumi looked at him a moment, as if weighing him...but she had held the story to herself for so long..."It was a few centuries ago, durring the first deamon war, before we sealed them away. I was fighting a rather vicious little devil when he got the upper hand. he tryed to sever the wing compleatly...If Lady Kay hadn't been there, I would have most certainly lost my wing. As it is, however, the damage done was so extensive that the wing never compleatly healed. It's not exactly reliable..." she sighed. "and now the damned creatures are loose again. They seem to have grown stronger somehow...My people are dying...without help they..." she stopped. she could feel the tears welling up in her eyes. no, not here! not where they can see! she covered her face with her hands and with a muttered "excuse me." bolted below deck to her cabin, but not before a small tear sized crystal could fall from behind her hands to the deck at damon's feet.
Once she had locked herself safely in her cabin, she let the tears come, crystalizing before they hit the floor.
Re: Harakel: Cain's Tavern cont.
Damon listened until she started talking about how her people were at war and then decidedly lost interest. Then she started crying and ran off, him staring after her. Women were wierd some times, he thought, returning his attention to his task. Paranoid, the lot of 'em, they were - He noticed something glittering on the deck and picked it up, keeping one hand on the wheel. It was a ... well by Davy Jones's locker, it was a fairy tear! Now where'd she get this from? Best take it to the captain, she'd know what to do with it. After me shift was over though...
A few hours later, Damon walked down to the captain's office, knocked and entered. She was sitting at her desk reading a book when he came in and set it down.
"What can I do for you Damon?"
He pulled the tear out of his pocket and wordlessly set it on her desk. She stared at it for a moment before asking, "Where did you get it?"
"It fell where the birdlady stood while we talked. She didn't have it on her before hand."
"Yes, the Scaleri brothers would have been all over her. Tell me what exactly happened between you two."
"She came over talking about how anoying the Scaleri brothers were and I asked her about her wing. She told me how she got the scar and how her people were ighting in some Demon war again then burst into tears and ran away. I went back to sailing the ship and that's when I noticed the jewel."
"She started crying you said?"
"Yes."
Ryoty was silent a moment, then, "Bring her to me."
Damon nodded and left. Ryoty picked up the jewel and studied it as it glittered in the evening light.
"To think that they would name this jewel so literally," she said quietly to herself. She stared at a while longer, lost in its miriad of dancing colors.
Re: Harakel: Cain's Tavern cont.
Megumi had finally regained her composure. she picked up her fallen tears and placed them in a small bag. Her gift was a rare one, but she dispised it. Life had become so complicated when she had discovered she could cry.
She placed the bag in a pocket in her cloak, which was hanging on a hook in the wall. She jumped when there was a knock at the door. It was the helmsman...Damon. The captain wanted to see her immediately. She followed Damon to the captain's office.
"You wanted to see me about somthing, Captain?" she asked.
Re: Harakel: Cain's Tavern cont.
Megumi looked a bit uncomfortable and bewildered by this. "I...I thought it was obvious...I mean the name...but." She took a moment and gathered her thoughts. "I'm sorry, I've just always though that everyone knew. The jewels you call fairy tears are exactly what their name suggests...The tears of fey. But the ability to shed these tears is vary rare. I know of only two amongst my people who have the gift though it is possible that some of our breatheren accross the sea may also be blessed with it." Her wording suggested that she was not one of these 'blessed' indviduals. She tilted her head curriously, oblivious to the fact that she had dropped one of her tears while she was on deck. "Why do you ask?"
Re: Harakel: Cain's Tavern cont.
Ryoty stared at her silently for so long that it became uncomfortable. "You're hiding something from me," she accused matter-of-factly.
Re: Harakel: Cain's Tavern cont.
"Am I?" Megumi asked, offended. It was true, but one did not just up and say it. "I can assure you, Captain, that I have told you everything you need know."
Re: Harakel: Cain's Tavern cont.
"Yes. Everything I need to know," she said quietly. She clinked something in her hands against the table a few times, thinking. "You said you know of only two fairies that produce fairy tears correct?" She leaned back in her chair. "Does that include you?"
bic:
Shadrak had finished his reconnaisance with Willie. He returned to the ship, banking steeply before dropping towards the ship like a stone. Moments before impact he braked with his awesome wingspan and came down gentle as a feather. Then he morphed human, dropping Willie on the deck unceremoniously. "Well... that was fun!" he exclaimed, trying to figure out how to tell the captain that a fleet of Black Legion ships lay between them and their last resupply chance. Black Legion... Daemons, orcs, goblins, trolls... why are they out in such force? I never seen the like before... He frowned.
Re: Harakel: Cain's Tavern cont.
Willie rolled head over heels the length of the deck and - STRIKE! - crashed into six empty water barrels set up in a triangle. He lay there, staring up at the birdies twirling around his head as he lay askew. One of the birdies turned into a nose dive toward him. Quick as lightning he snatched it up and shoved it into his mouth.
"Gah! He's eating my hand! HE'S EATING MY HAND!" shouted the sailor who'd chosen to help Willie up.

Re: Harakel: Cain's Tavern cont.
"I..." Fear gripped Megumi...did she really know? or did she just suspect? The woman was impossible to read. "why would you think that I...? I mean, true I can be emotional, but to think that I could..." She spluttered a bit more while she fought to keep the fear out of her voice, praying that it did not show in her eyes. Amongst her people, the gift was concidered a blessing, but an unwelcome one. Tales were still told amonst her people of fey with the gift who were held and tortured to force the tears from them. Life with the gift was always dangerous.
"May I asked what put this ridiculous idea in to your head?" She asked coolly when she had stopped spluttering.
Re: Harakel: Cain's Tavern cont.
Ryoty's gaze gave Megumi the chills. Dispite this, she managed to keep her face relatively free of expression, with the exception of a small amount of anger showing through, most of it directed at herself. Her wings twiched with her nervousness though, sending her injured one into another painful spasm. She clenched her jaw, closed her eyes and waited for it to subside. It gave her an excuse to not have to look Ryoty in the face, and for that she was thankful.
