Re: The Killing Game (continued)
Maverick shot Shadrak a questioning glance before making his face impassively alike and raised his hand to his chin, as if pondering something. "Hmm. No, I think we'll chance the wild ourselves thanks." He looked the man up and down. This was no guide. At least not one to lend himself out to passing strangers as horrible looking as they were. But he could still sense the undercurrents here. Best to make himself scarce. "I'll go see about a room--a clean one at least," he said as he pushed himself up from the table and spotted the bartender. Bartenders more often then not turned out to be the innkeepers; best place to start. He walked over to he bartender and saw to getting a room for the night, but kept his ear open should his friend need any help.

Re: The Killing Game (continued)
Shadrak sat thinking for a moment, the man hadn't moved. perhaps it would be best to leave this man behind, but he doesn't seem the type to give up that easily. If he's an enemy, best to keep him within sight, if he's and ally, best to have him around. SHadrak murmured to the man, "Wait here a moment." He got up and took Maverick aside, "Perhaps it would be in our best interests to keep him around. He's definetly powerful and no hedge wizard, I'd prefer him where we can keep an eye on him. Have you ever heard that quote, "In times of trouble, keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer?" I think it would be wise to keep someone of this caliber where he's watched, what say you?

Maverick leaned up against the counter and looked back at the stranger for a moment before answering, "yeah I see what you mean. But remember, it's him that approached us. If we let him lead us out of here, he could walk us right into a trap." He paused and sucked on his teeth, considering for a moment. He looked at Shadrak a moment before replying with a sigh, "But... the first step to avoiding a trap is knowing it's there. If you think it wise to hire him as out guide, then hire him."

Re: The Killing Game (continued)
Shadrak looked surreipitously back at the man who was steadfastly ignoring them, "He doesn't know what I am nor what I can do, and he doesn't know about your pendant or anything that happened last night or the night before." Shadrak said, referring to the strange events that had passed in the clearing. "I think it's safe to say that if he has a trap laid out for us, he will be the one in for a surprise," Shadrak finished darkly and turned away. He walked back to the man and thought. Something about this man was bugging him, like he should know him or something, or maybe he needed to know him? It was one of those strange things that happened to him on occassion. He walked over and sat down. "You're hired," he grunted. The man's face broke into a genuine smile, "I thought you'd never hire me!," he exclaimed, reaching a hand across to shake while standing up, "I promise, you won't regret it!" He smiled, "See you in the morning," and turned, walked up the stairs, and dissappeared. Shadrak shrugged and walked back to Maverick. There was still something bothering him though...Money! Shadrak could have slapped himself, something was definetly up, when you hire people, they get paid! and we didn't even discuss that!

Maverick watched the man gleefully disappear up the stairs and walked over to the table. "So how'd it go?" he asked, lowering himself into a chair across from his companion.

Re: The Killing Game (continued)
Shadrak looked up from contemplation, "Intrigueing...very intrigeing." Shadrak was lost in thought for a moment, "Do you believe in Fate?" Shadrak certainly didn't but this was more than a little odd, "No name, no pay, but demn set on coming along...I wonder how or if he knows us?" Shadrak shook his head and shrugged, finally planting a mischievious grin back on his face. "Well," he said looking out at the snow starting to drift as they came further north, "If he does anything annoying we can always give him a snow face wash." ^-^
Shadrak stood, "Anyhoo, I'd prefer a little sleep now and then... where's our room?"

"Good idea. You stay here and I'll search around and see what I can find out about our friend and exactly where we are." He stood and motioned to the bartender. The bartender in turn rapped on the wall hard and the dumpy wench came scurrying out of the kitchen again. "This way sirs, I'l show you to your room now." She winked at Shadrak and shot Maverick another suggestive look before bustling over to the stairs and waiting for them with hands on her hips. He shot Shadrak a disgusted look before getting up from the table.

ooc: She talks with a horrid English accent.

Re: The Killing Game (continued)
Maverick noticed Shadrak's baffled look and laughed outloud. Dragons! He clapped him on the shoulder and followed him up the stairs after the wench. She guided them down the hall and stopped at the end where she took out a key and unlocked the door. "This way, love," she said as she entered the room. The room was small, with two single beds and a single washstand between them. "So," the wench said casually, "Is there anything else you two handsome gents might be...needing?" Maverick looked around the room with barely hidden distaste. "Ah, no thank you, that will be all." Her eyes became flinty for a moment before turning to Shadrak with a sickly sweet smile on her face. "and how about you love? Would you be requiring anything else?"

ooc: OOO! this is PRICELESS!

bic:
Shadrak, innocent niave li'l dragon that he was looked up at her, bewildered. "Well, we have the pillows and the bed and the washstand...and...a floor...?" The women's gaze was confounding him greatly, and it was only through magical menas that his face didn't turn red for reasons he was at a loss to fathom, "...I think we're good..."

Maverick looked at Shadrak for a moment and snorted, trying to contain his laughter and turned away, intently studying the framework of the wall. "Oh are ya sure, love?" the wench asked, puting her hands on her hips in such a way that the floppy breasts she had almost fell out of the low front of her dress. "Oh. Are ye an inoccent?" Her face lit up with delight.

Re: The Killing Game (continued)
Shadrak's face, magical intervention or not, was definitely heating up, and he was still clueless as to why. He was also clueless as to why he couldn't stop staring at those two ...things squeezing out the front of her dress. He tried to speak, but it came out as a croak. Finally he mastered his voice and tried again, "Quite good, my good lady, any one up for a snow fight?" Shadrak asked, looking in desperation at Maverick, whereupon he turned and raced out the door, ending his flight in a large drift of snow that almost literally steamed. He picked himself out of the snowdrift and threw a snowball at Maverick.

ooc: Um, wasn't the room upstairs?

Maverick burst out laughing, having to lean up against the door frame to keep himself up. The woman had a bewildered look on his face as Shadrak picked up the smowball and turned to Maverick. "Is he all right in the head?" Maverick looked at her for a moment, then burst into fresh howls of laughter. "Well that--hahaha!--debatable madame. Hahaha! Oomf!" Maverick shook of the snow from his face and dusted off his shoulders, making a grand imperial show of it. Then, with all the digniy he could muster, walked over to the snow drift and scooped a hand full of snow, then proceeded to chuck it at Shadrak. The woman looked at them both and laughed a bit, shot Shadrak another strange look then went back inside, shaking her head.

ooc: yup! I ran down the stairs and assumed you'd followed :b

bic:
After a decently long round of snow-washes all 'round, Shadrak stood up, shaking all the snow off himself and looked around furtively to see if the dangerous creature was still around. There was evident relief on his face when he caught no sign of her. "Wild murauding beast with poison claws, acid breath, and a sincerly bad disposition is one thing!" he exclaimed, "Women are another," he muttered uncharitably of his most fearsome foe.

Maverick looked at Shadrak, shocked. "You can't be serious! You're a dragon who laughs in the face of death, can fight off mad hidious beasts, toy with giants with a major disposition, yet you can't even face a woman? You...you're a virgin aren't you!" This Maverick was not expecting.

Shadrak looked pouty, "An' what if I am! I'm allowed to be a freak," his face looked a little haunted and hollow for a moment, "It's how I was made after all..." He muttered.

ooc: AND NOW! Gentlemen and ladies, the disturbing side of Shadrak...besides all the other disturbing things about him...and the other disturbing things too...
yeah, dunno if you know his past, but it's pretty warped :\

Maverick felt the undercurrents shifting around Shadrak. There was more to that statement then Maverick realized. He looked up at the sky and noticed it was getting darker. "Come on, let's go get something to eat. And you can tell me a story." He started walking towards the inn, motioning for Shadrak to follow.

Re: The Killing Game (continued)
Shadrak was still gazing off into nothingness, his thoughts in turmoil. I don't even really know this man, sure, we've been through hell and high water together, but I still dont' really know him Shadrak thought. An evil undercurrent whispered to him, Aye, and ye trust him more than you should, certainly you learnt your lesson before, stupid dragon. Don't trust him, he'll only betray your trust, like all the others, you know you've only ever know traitors little dragon. Shadrak tried to ignore the voice, Just because that's all Ive ever known doesn't mean that it's gonna stay that way forever, I'll have to learn to trust someone sometime.... The evil voice hissed poisonously at Shadrak, Oh come on, stupid little dragon, who'd want you as an ally, innocent little bloodthirsty bezerker. Niave little child... Shadrak closed his eyes for a moment and banished the poisonous voice for the moment. Damn Krynn wizards to hell! He though vehemently at the cause of his curse. Oh bloody hell, now how am I gonna explain to maverick that I'm a lunatic skitz, but he doesn't need to worry, the bad voices don't do what I wont' let them!? Shadrak shook his head and turned to follow Maverick in, wondering how on earth he was going to take this if his performance after discovering that Shad was a dragon was any example of how he reacted to the mental and odd occurances that seemed nearly commonplace to Shadrak by now.

ooc: ook! and uh-oh, btw, aren't we going back to the room you rented? we already ate...

Re: The Killing Game (continued)
Maverick walked into the inn and sat at the cleanest looking table. The bartender, in lew of actually having customers, had cleaned up the place a little bit and the place almost felt homy with the fireplace crackling cheerily and the urine smell almost unnoticable now that the innkeeper had aired the place out and cleaned the floor. The innkeeper came over rubbing his hands solicitously. "What would you like?" Maverick looked at the man and asked, "Well, what have you got?"
"There's some thick beef soup simmering over he fire in the back, or a leg of lamb."
"Why don't you bring us the entire lambs leg. I think with my friends' apatite we may need it." He shot Shadrak a mischievious smile. The innkeeper gave them a startled look but nodded his head and scurried into the back. Maverick watched him disappear and turned back to Shadrak. "Now...what was that all about back there?"

Re: The Killing Game (continued)
Shadrak looked up, his eyes hooded. He debated on whether or not to fob it off as tiredness, but the piercing directness of Maverick's gaze put an end to that idea. He sighed, better to get this done without the aid of alcohol, besides which, he'd never condoned getting drunk, and didn't intend to now. He sighed and his eyes became distant, "Better you know of my past sooner rather than later anyway." He cast about for a place to start. "Start at the beginning, always there..." he leaned forward on the table and his eyes became distant and dark. "I was born on a world likely alien to to, it's called Krynn by its inhabitants. There's an ongoing conflict on my homeworld, it's become more of a nuisance than an actual worry, everyday life is war to the inhabitants of Krynn. There are two races of dragons, the dragons of Paladin, and the dragons of Takhisis. The dragons of Paladin are considered the force for "good" or light, and come in metallic colours, The dragons of Takhisis come in colours, such as red, white, black..." Shadrak trailed off, "I am black and silver...a contradiction of terms as it were. This 'state' is rather conducive to skitzophrenic behaviour, so if you've been thinking maybe that I have 'mood swings', well, nothing of the sort, i'm just a skitz." He made a face, "This came about through a tampering of wizards. Odd that I would be the only one? no, this 'experiment' was tried and tried to death, with eggs... This produced an unsightly goblin of a creature with stunted wings and upright posture. I was barely hatched when they 'experimented' on me. Let us just say that the results were catastrophic. Magic was unleashed in untold largess, both black and white. It tainted me and made me what I am today, but it also killed the wizards that tried this. I woke to a world of blood and death and pain in the first moments of my life, but i try not to let it warp my outlook on life too terribly much," He shrugged and grinned wryly and a little wanly, this was NOT his favorite topic, his past. His past was known to very few, all of whom had been dead these past years, this was the first person he'd told in over a century. dragons being long-lived, a century to a human is like a year to a dragon, or somewhere around there.

ooc: and voila! his history in short! of course, you can imagine his TEEN years... oh what a hell THAT must've been! *rolls eyes*
