Re: The Killing Game (continued)
Maverick stared at Shadrak. "Yeah," he said finally. "We'll need a lot of those if we're going to get three horses. Well, two. You're getting your own," Maverick told Kante.

ooc: Great! Try explaining the economy to a dragon. How young is he?

Re: The Killing Game (continued)
ooc: *rofl* young for a dragon! and used to getting things the "easy" way, MAGIC! :p

bic:
Shadrak frowned, shrugged, then turned to Kante, "Well, if we're gonna haveta have horses, then we'd better go hunt some down soon, I think there's some in that forest," he pointed outside to the surrrounding forest. "They probably ran off from previous owners, so all we need to do is round them up and feed 'em, they'll probably be half-tamed anyway, and that's good 'nough for me!"
Kante looked at Shadrak strangely, "Metal-thingies," he said in an 'I'm-stating-the-obvious' sort of drone. "We take metal thingies and give them to someone with already fully tame horses, and he'll give us horses in exchange."
Shadrak frowned, then laughed, "SUCKER! he's gonna be gettin' the short end of the deal!" he laughed, "some stupid li'l metal thingies for horses! hah! that's great!" Shadrak obviously found this concept rather amusing, see, before he'd only thought it some sort of foreign ritual of respect or something. "See," he went on, "Gold I could understand, and some of those li'l things look like gold, but that's not a lot of gold! just little bits! and people are brainless enough to give your good dependable horses for those things!?" he burst into gales of laughter.

ooc: see! he's quick! just not very....good at getting the whole concept of it all....:o :p

ooc: *gives ironic laugh* Yeah. I guess so.;)

bic: Maverick looked at Kante helplessly, and turned back to Shadrak. "Well, if that's your stand point on it, then do you know where we could get some of those metal coin-thingies for free? 'Cause you know, that would really help."

ooc: He does know that means without stealing right?

Re: The Killing Game (continued)
Shadrak looked like he was about to say something, then stopped, catching the look on both Kante's and Maverick's faces. He looked around some more, was about to say something, frowned, shrugged, closed his mouth and pointed straight down, at the ground. "I assume there's metal in the earth if these people are really that desperate..."
Kante shook his head, "I've got an idea, you go hunt yourself a horse, I'll buy one, because I actually do have enough 'metal thingies' for one, and Maverick," he turned to him, "I assume you've also got sufficient funds?"
Shadrak had moved the moment kante stopped looking at him, he was out the window like a flash, hit the ground running, and grinning like a maniac, he ran for the forest.

"He doesn't know the meaning of inconspicuous does he?" he asked Kante, watching Shadrak's dust trail disappear in the distance.

Re: The Killing Game (continued)
Kante watched SHadrak's retreating form for a moment, then sighed and shook his head, "That's highly unlikely, to say the least." Kante motioned to the door, "Ladies first," he grinned, unaware that this was suspiciously familiar to an earlier experience that Maverick had had with Shadrak.

Elsewhere:
Shadrak halted his headlong plunge after he was some ways into the forest and looked around. He sent out magic sensors, scanning for the specie horse. "Ah...ahah!" he muttered and set off swiftly yet silently for the prime horseflesh he'd sensed. Hardly tamed, but that hardly mattered,it meant just a few new bruises to play "connect the dots" with at the end of the day, that's all. He scurried silently into a brightly lit clearing, and there, standing in a brilliant beam of sunlight, was the blackest horse he'd ever seen. Of course, Shadrak immediately began salivating. The minute he realized it he mentally thwapped himself, and stopped. He threw and invisibility cloak over himself, levitated himself above the horse, braced himself, and dropped himself onto its back. The horse stood stock still for a moment, then suddenly whirled and raced deeper into the woods. This wasn't a problem, as there were no low hanging branches, however... Shadrak knew a trap-spell... when he was in one. Shadrak sighed, sat back, and enjoyed the ride....for about ten seconds, after which the horse plunged off a cliff. Normally this wouldn't phase Shadrak, but Shadrak knew one VERY important thing.... the horse, unlike him, DIDN'T have wings, and he was stuck on it, unable to use any magic. He had about enough time to run through all the expletetives he knew in Krynnish, Senkinarian, and the spattering of various other curses he'd picked up along the way, before they hit the water at the bottom.
Except...this wasn't exactly water. Shadrak realized this after he and the horse had bounced on it several times instead of going through.
"Well, damn..." he muttered, still unable to get off, annoyed really, because he wanted to see what the "water" was made of.
The horse took this moment to blast off again, running hither and thither like a maniac. After awhile Shadrak began to enjoy it, bruises notwithstanding. So when he saw the sun on the western horizon actually going up instead of down, he hooted happily, "Faster!" he called to the horse, not really caring if it understood him. Indeed, it began to go faster, and faster....and slower...and slower....and stopped. The horse was panting, his stomach heaving. Shadrak realized the entrapment spell had worn off some time ago, but didn't get off.
"C'mon! lets go again!!!" he whined to the horse, rather more certain that it could hear him this time.
"I will do....ANYTHING" it took Shadrak a moment to realize that the horse was talking, "if you will just bloody well, GET OFF MY BACK!"
Shadrak debated for awhile, then frowned, "But I dun waaaaannnnaaaa!" he whined.
The horse snorted in disgust.
"OO! I know! I'll get off now, if you promise to stick around and give me rides whenever I want! and in exchange, I'll feed you and....I dunno, do you LIKE being groomed?" he asked, looking critically at the horses' tangled mane.
The horses' eye widened, "Grooming?!" he stood like that for a moment, then continued, "SWEET! ok!"
Shadrak grinned and swung off. "Now, we go back to the two weirdos with their metal thingies! and they get their just desserts! MWUHA! they prolly got some common normal horses without the slightest bit of imagination beyond their feed-bucket." The horse seemed to appreciate Shadrak's cynicism. "Oh, I should prolly ask, what's your name? I can't just call you "horse" it sounds too demn lame."
The horse snorted, "I'm the great demon-horse, Ferral! My lineage reaches back to the great-... what the hell are you doing?!"
Shadrak looked back, "setting up a spell, obviously you're not gonna be able to run half-way around the world again so soon, and I doubt the ability of some people to navigate one of those complicated things some people call roads..."

Re: The Killing Game (continued)
Meanwhile, Maverick made his way down to the stables in search of teh stable master. "Hello?" he called as he entered the stables. A fat man in a leather apron came out of a stable with a maneure-covered shovel in his hand. "Help you?" he asked suspiciously.
"Yes I'd like to buy a horse," Maverick responded. The man stare dat him a moment longer, then motioned to a stall. "We got ol' Betsy here. Don't see what you'd want her for anyhow." Maverick walked over to the stall. Inside, a broken down old horse with sagging flesh and skinny legs swatted at a swarm of flies with it's stringy tail. Maverick cringed in distaste. "Do you have anything a little more...durable? Younger maybe, and stronger?"
"Well, we got lightning over here in this here other stall. You could buy that one instead," the man suggested. Maverick walked over and looked in the other stall. There, standing proud in its' stall was a grand white stallion. It's look was fierce and it's back strong. A wide gin split Mavericks' face. "I'll take it!"

bic:
Kante walked a ways off from both directions that the two had gone, then headed for the forest.
He took out a oddly shimmering stone, it caught the sunlight, then the sunlight shot through it and materialized as a figure made up of light (Think primitive star wars communicator thingie that show the dude that's talking). //Well?// the figure asked. "I'm in," Kante responded, "the one is suspicious, the other, well... it's hard to say with that one... We seem to have hit it off, but the man is harder to read than a disintagrated, waterlogged, crabbed-hand ancient script. He's slippery to say the least, can't get a lock on his mind, he's devious, not sure what his bounds are for acceptable behavior, though I'm guessing there are none, but yeah, the other one's against me. Still, all the same, somehow, I'm traveling with them all the same."
The figure stayed motionless for a moment //Oh great! and here I was hoping we'd manage to pull it off without suspicions. Fine, stay in place, don't let them suspect what's ahead, don't let them hurt themselves, and most importantly, make certain that they don't stray too far, we can't have any serious delays.//
Kante cocked his head to the side, "....will do!"
The light vanished, then he cast a spell, muttering in some strange language. POOF! and there was a nice grey horse, beautiful and tall, glossy coat and long mane and tail...and glowing purple eyes... Kante sighed, shook his head and made a funny motion with his hands, the eyes dimmed and turned into normal horse eyes.
Then he headed back, riding on his horse.
He was nearly there when he got broadsided by a maniac on a wild black horse. He cursed the rogue out rather colourfully.

Shadrak was enjoying himself, the horse had got it's wind back and was almost flying him back to the town, Shadrak had teleported most of the way back.
"Wha?" Shadrak muttered, looking back, "Could've sworn we just brushed into something... meh, must be my imagination." he grinned and whooped.

ooc: I won't say what exactly is going on w/ Kante, but I will say this, he's a weird one ^-^

ooc: Uh. Yeah. AND IT TOOK YOU LONG ENOUGH TO RESPOND! I figured your shaddy muse had taken over your body and was wreaking havoc on all the Canadian Provinces. >*_*< Oooh! And kittie kittie kittie kittie kittie! I got the CUTIST little kitten. Ask Sam, she's seen it. And she's psycho too! Just like her mommie! ^_^ When she's not curling up and purring in my lap, she's zipping around the house at top speeds and running headlong into tiny nooks, crannies, crevices, and mouse holes. It rocks!

bic: Maverick rode out of the stables atop the gleaming white horse, looking for all the world again like a knight in shining armor. (Can you say, 'hottie?) He pulled slightly on the reins and it came to a halt. He turned the horse around and dug his heals into it's flanks. The creature took off like a jetstream, gliding along as if on a cushoin of air. Why, the thing was gentler then a baby! He definately felt he'd gotten the better of the deal from that stable master. Finally, he thought, his luck was changing--and for the better.

ooc: He deserves some happiness from the monotony of torture that I put him through.

bic:
Shadrak whipped along, suddenly he saw something white and pulled the demon horse to a stop. His hooves dug in and he skidded, setting up a huge cloud of dust. Once it had settled (one everything and everyone) Shadrak tossed a cheery wave, "I got a demon-horse!" he said in tones that most people use for announcing that they just got something cute and cuddly. Kante had shown up just as the dust was almost settled, now he interjected, "Well good for you, it doesn't matter what you do! you're still a friggin' psycho!"
Shadrak laughed. His black beast shook the dust from his tail, but he still looked kind of dun rather than black. Kante's horse was a kind of mud colour. Shadrak looked at Maverick innocently, "sooo... what colour horse did you get?

Maverick atop the horse looked a clay bust o a worn traveler; completely borwn and perfectly still. The only sign saying otherwise was his blinking eyes and his cough, puffing out plumes of air. "Well," he lightly dusted off his shoulders, not that it did any good. "It was white."

Shadrak let out a smothered snicker. "Ah."
"Hah! you call that bag of bones a horse?! Some nag you got yourself!..." the insults continued, though it took a moment for anyone to realize that Shadrak's horse was talking.
"eehhh...hehe," Shadrak looked almost embarassed.
Kante's horse shifted, and Ferral lifted his head, turned in the direction of his horse, snorted in what could've been derisive equin laughter. "And what's THAT? a MULE?!" he snickered. "Some transport! what's it got? ONE horsepower!" Ferral snorted and snickered at his private joke.
Shadrak had acquired a totally innocent and oblivious expression, as if he didn't hear Ferral at all, or at least as if Ferral was being polite.

If horses could grin evilly, Ferral was doing just that, "Gladly, not that I need your permission to do that anyway."
Shadrak grinned, "You can keep your fuzzy, creepy little rodent creaures, I'll take a foul-mouthed demon-horse over any of 'em any day!"

Ferral whipped his head around and nipped Shadrak. Shadrak sat, shaking his nipped hand, looking rueful.
"Anyhoo, who's up for a nice, pleasant, and utterly miserable ride through several rainstorms, a volcano or two and maybe an ocean, not to mention several thousand acres of vicious, biting, itching, creeping, crawling, grabbing jungle....oh, and lets not forget the regular old forests crammed with wannabe bandits?"

"Like you need any more ego," Ferral muttered back.
Kante shrugged, and shifted his horse, Shadrak opened his mouth, "Ladies first!" three voices spoke in unison, whereapon Shadrak glared at Ferral, Ferral rolled his eyes, and Kante stared at the duo.

Maverick rolled his eyes at the trio. "Guide," he said, addressing Kante, and nodded his head down the trail leading out of the little village. "Guide." A name and order. Let's start this thing off right. No big bangs, no running for our lives-- at least not yet--he thought to himself, and no more mishaps, he prayed to the sky, at least for a little while.
