Re: The Killing Game (continued)
Maverick froze for a moment, then planted his hands behind him in the dirt and leaned back almost casually. "So, what are you saying? That thing sucked out our souls last night?" That shadowed look that stole across Shadrak's face gave Maverick the creeps, but a lot of things about Shadrak gave him the creeps. Not to say that he wasn't a bad guy or anything, but he really gave him the creeps.

ooc: You know what? Maverick still doesn't know that Shad's a dragon.:evil Ohh! And something else! I FINALLY got internet back in my house again! Yay! woot! woot! Party at my house! Yeah!:rollin

ooc: WOOT! *joins the party*

Shadrak shook his head, clearing the shadows of the past from his mind. "No," he said, trying to order his thoughts, "What I mean..er...suspect, is that originally, during the first wars between these creatures, someone must've bound them into that crystal, sealing them for all eternity...or so they thought, there's still some of the creatures sealed in these bloodstones, they can't get out unless these stones are shattered. I figure if all the creatures get put back in...then the sphere that shattered should be remade. ...only...what was it doing here, in plain sight, for anyone to break....?" the shadow came back, into Shadrak's voice. His voice became a bit harsher and darker, "It's almost as though the sphere had a life of its own, or the beasts within had some influence..." He shook his head again, to clear the shadows away again, "Whatever, I don't know..." He shrugged, and retreated within himself, his previous energy seemed sapped, as though the shadows that had crossed his face and held his voice had taken a toll....

ooc: *dumdumdum!*

Maverick stood up andwalked over to his friend. "You all right?", he asked, peering into his friends eyes.

Re: The Killing Game (continued)
Shadrak didn't seem to notice Maverick for a moment, but then when he looked up it was as if he was snapping out of some sort of daze. "Oh, sorry, just thoughts of the past," He made a face, "none of which is particularily relevant." He shrugged and took out the bloodstone, "Now, in the here and now, there is work to be done," He made a face again, this time it was obvious that his old humour was returning.

"Good. Now if you'll just show me where that creek where you got that excrutiatingly cold water, I think I'll go catch us some breakfast," he said cheerily. The past twelve hours had been pretty gloomy, and he desperately wanted to lighten the mood. He snatched up his pack and began rummaging through it, then pulled out a peculiarly thin clear piece of string and a tin box with crude carvings on it. It made a tinkling sound as he lightly shook it.

Shadrak pointed to a point vaguely behind him and avidly examined the box that made the funny noises, "What's that for??? how's that gonna catch breakfast??? what is it gonna catch??? Is it going to catch anything???"

Maverick couldn't help but smile at his friends' childish curiosity. "Let's see... No, wait. Too meny questions. The box isn't going to catch the fish, it's what's inside that's going to catch breakfast. As to what's inside it... you'll have to wait and see," he said with a mischivious smile. With that he walked around Shadrak and headed in the general direction Shadrak had pointed. "Coming?" he called back to him.

Shadrak cocked his head to the side and shrugged, "Sure, but I dunno why you need the box, I general just catch my fish as is..."

Maverick frowned at this, but said nothing. What did he mean 'as is'? Oh well. Maybe he caught them with his hands. Maverick had done that on occasion, but he preferred a fishing pole.

Shadrak grinned and poked Maverick, "can I catch some too? my way?" Shadrak was fighting an evil grin, because he'd just realized that Maverick didn't know that Shadrak was a dragon.

"Sure...Okay," Maverick said with a confused look on his face. He suddenly had a very bad sinking feeling. Why was Shadrak grinning that way?

Re: The Killing Game (continued)
"You sure? All right." He pulled his dagger out of his boot and walked over to a small willow tree. He made a show of examining some of the thinner branches and finally decided on a particularly straight one and cut it at it's base. He stripped the twigs and leaves off it as he walked back to the bank and stood beside Shadrak. He tied the string to the end of the branch and unclasped the tinkling box. He took off the lid and pulled out one of the hooks, tied it to the other end of the string and but the lid back on the box. "Fishing pole," he said matter-of-factly with a grin. He swung it back and heaved it forward and the hook spun through the air out onto the water amd sank beneath the surface. "How do you fish?" He asked Shadrak conversationally.

Shadrak grinned, "My way, normally," Shadrak watched the line avidly for a li'l while, "So...why's this taking so long?" Shadrak was genuinely curious.

"Well it takes patiance. The fish are easily excitable and they'll need a few minutes to get used to a hook in the water. Once they do, they start to nibble at it until they finally bite it and then they're hoo--oiiii!!" Maverick was jerked forward suddenly, and dugged his heels into the sand. His head flipped up, flinging the hair from his face as his eyes scanned the water. "What in the abyss is that?!" Something big was in the water, something moving. "Shadrak-- give me a hand!" His heels gave way and he dug them back in to the sand, leaning so far back he actually sat down.

Shadrak grinned and morphed dragon behind him, //gladly//. Shadrak dove toward the large creature of the depths and dug his claws and teeth in. He then ingaged in a bloody brilliant, splashy battle.

Re: The Killing Game (continued)
The fishing line was yanked forward and Maverick was jerked into the water, his fishing line caught in a death grip. A dragon! "Shadrak run!", he yelled amid his thrashing. "It's a dragon!" The fish, a particularly nasty one with long sharp fangs and razor-like fins, was flopping around in the dragon's mouth feebly, it's life juices draining from it.

Shadrak grinned, and, holding his flopping fish like a cat with a mouse to present to its master, Shadrak loped up to Maverick and dropped the fish at his feet...it was still twitching. "See," Shadrak said, morphing back to human, "that's how I catch my fish!" He grinned.

bic: Slowly, the color drained from Maverick's face. "Y..y..you...da...dra..." Maverick's head nodded, his eyes rolled back and he fell flat on his back, stiff as a board. He'd fainted.

Shadrak was helpless with laughter for several minutes.
...
...still laughing...
...
...
you get the idea...

AFTER shadrak had recovered himself he went back to the lake and filled his canteen with cold lake water, then he turned back towards Maverick. He held his canteen high above maverick and let it all splash all over Maverick's face.
