Kitchen/afternoon
Jubilee smiled at Ben as she fixed the sandwiches and quickly put everything away.

"That sounds like fun. But I don't want to- Uh... you know, bring back any bad memories or anything. I'm cool with about anything. Are you feeling up to walking around in a bit?"

She quickly brought the plate over and set down next to him. Jubilee struggled to keep the conversation going, her nervousness tying up her tongue. 'C'mon Jubes. I know that you like him, but how will you ever get to know him if you don't talk?! He's so totally different from anyone I've ever met, but there's got to be some common ground!'

Propping her head on her elbow, she grinned at him. "So, um, why Xaviers? I know the whole controlling your powers thing, but do you believe Humans and Mutants can live together in peace?"

Jubilee groaned inwardly. Talk about a heavy question when the man just exploded.

Re: Kitchen/afternoon
Lucas' head was throbbing. He didn't know what was up with Kevin recently. Kevin didn't even know. There was something odd though. Kevin had just found himself more active in the past couple of days and Lucas for all of his willingness was beginning to be unnerved by the frequency with which Kevin took over.

Lucas knew he was in control because when Kevin was in control, Lucas had the unique sensation of watching a movie about the world around him. Lucas could feel and that's what let him know he was in charge. For the moment. Lucas could feel the tension in the kitchen and tried to say nothing. He just side stepped the crowd and rummaged in one of the cabinets, looking for a mug. Normally he wouldn't have resorted to hot tea on a day like today, but he needed something for the headache and Asprin just wasn't working.

He said nothing and tried his hardest not to be intrusive. He wondered what the hell had gone on. Kevin was suggesting that he possess someone and find out. Lucas was opposed. He didn't think that anyone here would take kindly to having their body's being turned into puppets. Kevin just sighed and Lucas shook his head. To anyone who didn't know what Lucas' situation was, they would think that the poor boy just had a tendancy to stare off into space for hours on end.

"Walking around souds nice," Ben said as he began eating the other sandwiches Jubilee made for him. "As for your other question, I chose Xavier's mainly because it seemed like the best place to control my powers," Ben began, "I do, however know that mutants and humans can live together in peace. When I was a fighter, my promoter provided me and the other fighters he promoted with a communal home where we ate, trained and lived together. Even when it became obvious to them that I was a mutant, none of them treated me any different than before," Ben said. "I am, however, no stranger to anti-mutant sentiment. When I first came back from Madripoor, I saw an anti-mutant rally in California and was attacked after accidentally losing control of my powers and set a trash can on fire in public," Ben finished.

Re: Location: Great Room near Admin Offices
It took a long time for Jonathan to go through the young woman's file with her. He was patient, read slowly, often stopping to rephrase what was written to make it clearer to Karika. Jonathan now sat in the window embrasure, leaning where his shoulder very lightly brushed hers. It was not as direct a physical contact as when he'd laid his hand over hers therefore less threatening. Instead, the very slight contact he maintained was far from threatening and indicated simple pack companionship.

Jonathan had sensed the Professor and Warren standing near the great room entrance, obviously undecided on how to proceed. Surreptitiously, he sent a hand signal asking them to back off for the moment. He hoped after four years at the institute, his judgement was trusted.

Finishing the file, Jonathan closed the folder and offered it back to Karika. "That's all there is, my dear." He leaned back in the window embrasure and waited.

OOC: Marina, I am not going to begin to try and collate all of the information regarding her file that you've interspersed in your posts. I'll leave that to 'her' to bring out. While it is not stated in the post, Jonathan's emotions ranged from anger and disgust at her treatment, to caring and concern. Anytime his negative emotions spiked, he'd have been quick to reassure her that it was anger at Weapon X...not her.

OOC: That's fine ;)

Karika had listened intently as he spoke about the truth of her file. Most of it she knew; she remembered the endless tests that would result in pain, violent illness or more endless tests. She remembered the beatings, the lashings she took and the psychological evaluations that ended in more beatings and tears. It was reliving every moment of it over and over again. She could see Jonathon moving through it with her...

Sure, he could never understand in the capacity that she did. But he knew what she felt, and comforted her as they went through her file. Even though she knew most of it, there were parts that she did not...like how her assassinations caused her to feel ill and how they pushed her out on more to "toughen her up". How doctor after doctor told Weapon X to let her go, to make sure she rested...and how they repeatedly ignored it. And most importantly, how she did not have a mother and father...

Karika Yashida was a clone.

Tears burned in her throat, knowing that she really was nothing. She did not have a mommy or a daddy...she did not have brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles...hell, she didn't even have any friend. All of her hope had been based on a lie. It destroyed her...turning to Jonathon, she said nothing at first, just trying to ignore the tears in her eyes that threatened to spill at any second.

"Go...now." She said, referring to the fact that she was going to leave...she HAD to leave. "No family. No place." She had no place to go, no family to turn to. Nothing. In her mind it was over for Karika Yashida.

OOC: Sorry this post is so short

IC:

The flame manipulator grinned. “Well, the other person around here… you may not want to ever face in a fight, cos he has the bad habit of going into feral ranges, where no form of reasoning can get through to him. Enemy or friend, he can’t tell the difference at those times, so I would advise you not to ever rub him the wrong way,” Pyro told him, the smirk so clear on his face. “His name is Logan, or Wolverine, and he currently isn’t here at the moment, but you are sure to come across him at some point in time.”

Mez still kept his mood light. He was fairly certain there were a lot of mutants that were far more deadly then he was. "No doubt" Mez said. "I try not to rub people anyway." Mez said. "Doesn't turn out good."

"I guess the name Wolverine pretty much says all doesn't it?" He said hinting himself at how often wolverines would attack people. "Anybody else I should be lookin' out for?" Mez asked, wondering who to talk to and who to avoid. "I haven't been here long, so Professor Xavier and a few others are the only ones I really know about." He said.

Mez thought about putting on his headphones again. Putting his hand back into his pocket he stopped as he half-way pulled the Ipod out. He wondered if playing some more music would set her off on the brink of a killing spree, probably involving only Mez. Figuring that he regarded his life higher than an Ipod. he put it back in his pocket. He could listen to it later.

"I remember seeing that on TV. My aunt picked me up from school early that day, just in case it got started near my school. I know I can live together with other people, but it just seems that we'll never ever get to a place where we can just live and let live. You were still passed out and stuff, but earlier, two people got into this huge fight up here. I couldn't tell what the reason was, but it really bugs me. We're here to set an example, right? That's what I've always understood about Xavier's."

Jubilee paused and smiled at him.

"Sorry to go off on a tangent... I shouldn't be talking about that kind of stuff after you exploded."

Kevin felt mildly claustrophobic and looked for the closest exit. He had taken Lucas' mind by force. It wasn't something he was used to doing, but he needed to possess something and that was forbidden. Kevin moved through the throng in the kitchen seemlessly. No one would have noticed his passing. Kevin needed a breath of fresh air, he was going stir crazy.

Lucas on the other hand was disturbed. Kevin had never been strong enough to sieze outright control before, but now that Kevin was in control, Lucas didn't want to fight back. He just decided to wait. Lucas was in need of rest and Kevin could handle himself just fine most of the time.

"No, no. It's quite alright. I was going to ask if anything interesting happened while I was out," Ben said as he finished off his last sandwich. "What about you? Why did you choose Xavier's?" Ben asked the young woman.

"Go...now." She said, referring to the fact that she was going to leave...she HAD to leave. "No family. No place." She had no place to go, no family to turn to. Nothing. In her mind it was over for Karika Yashida.
Jonathan turned his direct blue-eyed gaze on Karika. This time, as there was no threat or challenge in the situation, he met and held her eyes squarely, not glancing down or looking away.

"Karika, I won't pretend that it would be easy. You have a lot to learn...and to unlearn...but this place and these people can become your family and your home. I will help you and teach you if you choose to apply to stay here. Others will as well." Jonathan smiled, his eyes gentle but direct. "The choice is yours entirely. I...and no one here...will try to stop you should you decide to go."

Jonathan leaned back, pulling just far enough away from the young woman for her to know he meant what he said. The offer of a home and companionship was genuine, though it would mean some hard work on her part. The fact that it was entirely her choice was also true. Jonathan would see to it that no one interfered should the girl decide to leave the estate.

He honestly hoped she'd choose to remain. Jonathan believed that his years of working with both developmentally challenged wild animals and people would stand her in good stead. Though he felt for the girl, he did not pity her. Pity was a wasted emotion and often confused with sympathy or empathy.

Jonathan watched her carefully, waiting for her to think over his words and his offer.

Re: Great Room / Afternoon
It was so much at once...first her file, the thing she hadn't wanted to share. And once she had, well, it wasn't quite the relief she had been hoping for. As a matter of fact, she felt worse than she had ever felt; the desperate anguish she felt over not having anything left to hope and search for, far surpassed any physical beating she might've endured at Weapon X. They, at least, didn't ever reach this place inside of her with their lashings.

Jonathon seemed to understand as he caught her gaze and held it. Most of the time, the animal in her took that as a direct threat and she ripped blindly. But he wasn't challenging her...he was comforting her. "Karika, I won't pretend that it would be easy. You have a lot to learn...and to unlearn...but this place and these people can become your family and your home. I will help you and teach you if you choose to apply to stay here. Others will as well.""The choice is yours entirely. I...and no one here...will try to stop you should you decide to go."

"No easy." She retorted, looking still into his eyes. Her throat was tight with tears and unresolved anger that would build and mount until she found an outlet...which meant hitting something hard, a wall or a punching bag, or if idiot-boy kept bothering her, it might be him. Either way, she had to get rid of it or it would control her. "Stay?" Karika was SHOCKED. Jonathon wanted her to stay?

Why? Why would he want that? She wasn't his daughter or his friend or a medical patient...she was just an emotionally distraught little girl with no family. It was beyond her grasp to understand why he'd still want her. But his warm smile and his blue eyes held nothing but truth...how could she say no? And if she did...where else would she go? Looking down at her small, pale hands and noticing that they were shaking again, she nodded. "Stay."

Karika decided. If someone could help her, it was Jonathon. And there were other friends around. Mana, Kitty...and who knew who else? Finally her stomach took over and she pulled out another pudding from the basket that Kitty had made. Biting through the plastic, she liked the vanilla cup. "Food now." She said, laying the cup aside and pulling out another one. She was half-starved, tiny and it was time to eat...good manners aside.

Kitty finished repairing the lap top, "Now look. It's not a floatation device, on OR off. Your lucky you didn't fry anything. Now scoot." she pointed to the hall.

"Thank you." Blink grinned sheepishly at her, his gaze fell on the girl across the room, "Shes sad. Here, take this to her." he fished a small red ruby charm on a black rope necklace out of his pocket.

"I will." Kitty grinned as the shy boy left the room. She put the magazine back down and got up. Approaching the two slowly. She could tell they were done with that for now as she walked up to X-23, "Hello again." she smiled.

"I see you like the pudding. Theres other great junk food I'll introduce you to, too. Um here. This is from one of the boys here at the school. I think he'd like to be your friend. He's a little shy, but he means well." she held out the rope necklace.

John grinned at him, "Well, really, you just have to make sure not to rub anyone the wrong way here. We all have powers to utilise, not saying I'd use mine on you or anything. Those days are long over," a look of shame passed over his eyes briefly, before the face of his pregnant wife appeared in his mind to sooth the savage memories. ~I still think this guy thinks a little too high for himself,~ a small voice in his mind spoke up.

Pyro looked around the corner. Seemed Kitty was back, and talking to X and Chase. Best not to interrupt that conversation now.

"Anyway, Mate, gonna head off now, gotta see how my wife is doing. See ya around," the flame manipulator said, lifting the hand holding his lighter in a gesture of goodbye then heading off down the hallway.

As he passed Angel and Xavier, he paused, waiting for the Professor to come fully out of the office, heading towards the lift. When the man saw him, he said, "Oh, John, it might be good to go and let you foster sister know that she will be needed when the team returns. Tell her to make sure she has rested up. I am heading down to Cerebro now to check in on the situation."

"Yeah, okay," John answered, nodding, a look of greeting then goodbye given to Angel. "I know where she is, I'll let her know on the way to see Swann," and with that said, the young man continued on, merely nodding at those who greeted him as he past.

Mez let a laugh go. "Wow...well even though its a bit late congrats to ya." said James showing him a two-fingered salute. "And uh...hey, If you see Logan before I do tell em' I could use a sparrin' partner." Mez said. Almost always ready for sparring...sometimes too much. "I haven't really done too much sparring in a while so it'd be good to keep in shape ya know?" Mez asked as Pyro turned and leaved.

James took a quick look around. Most people getting around a lot better than he was. Mez shrugged his shoulders and made a following escape. Mez's stomach grumbled a bit. He looked down and wondered how he could be hungry. Not questioning himself any longer Mez headed down the stairs away from the Great Room hoping to retrace his steps back to the kitchen.

Karika decided. If someone could help her, it was Jonathon. And there were other friends around. Mana, Kitty...and who knew who else? Finally, her stomach took over and she pulled out another pudding from the basket that Kitty had made. Biting through the plastic, she liked the vanilla cup. "Food now." "I will." Kitty grinned as the shy boy left the room. She put the magazine back down and got up. Approaching the two slowly. She could tell they were done with that for now as she walked up to X-23, "Hello again." she smiled.

"I see you like the pudding. There’s other great junk food I'll introduce you to, too. Um here. This is from one of the boys here at the school. I think he'd like to be your friend. He's a little shy, but he means well." she held out the rope necklace.

Jonathan chuckled as Karika made a beeline for the food basket again. He noted that Katherine had thought to provide a few plastic utensils. Picking up one of the pudding cups himself, he slowly and deliberately fished out a spoon, took off the top, and spooned out a small helping. Something far more nourishing was called for but this would do for now. Sharing food was another way of bonding and seemed appropriate for the moment. Jonathan knew the girl was sharp and observant, so rather than make her uncomfortable regarding her ‘table’ manners, he chose to teach by example.

As he worked through the pudding cup, Jonathan’s mind worked through his promise to help the girl and help her stay at the institute. He knew once the contents of her file were revealed to the Professor he might have objections. There was no doubt that Karika could be quite dangerous. Jonathan also figured she could be quite loyal once her trust was earned.

Housing was another issue. Though there was more than enough space at the school, the half-wild young woman might be somewhat of a danger. Jonathan was going to propose that he clean out the small single room apartment on the far side of his apartment above the stable. It would give her privacy and space and easy access to him should she need him. Jonathan sighed softly. Taking on this sort of mentoring relationship was what he had trained for and what he usually felt called to do. As always, he wondered if what he was doing was right.

Jonathan tapped Karika’s arm very gently. “Slow down. There is plenty of food. You may have all you want but you’ve not eaten in awhile and this stuff can make you sick if you eat too much or too fast.” He turned his dark blue eyes to the other young woman, “Katherine, perhaps we can find something higher in protein. I believe there is quite a bit of left-over cold fried chicken in the refrigerator.”

OOC: I can't tell what you're doing with the necklace...but I'll play it as she's holding it out. So if it's not okay for Karika to grab it because it's shiny, lol, I'll edit it ;)

Karika was a new person once her blood sugar spiked. She wasn't so sour anymore and was smiling away with her shattered pudding cup in her hands. Kitty was looking more and more like 'friend' that Karika longed for. "I see you like the pudding. There’s other great junk food I'll introduce you to, too. Um here. This is from one of the boys here at the school. I think he'd like to be your friend. He's a little shy, but he means well." "Junk food." Karika repeated.

It was as if she were a little baby, repeating every word that she heard. It was her way of learning, her way to learn words...and to form relationships. Never let it be said that Karika was not intelligent, she was just way behind on the schooling that most children received by her stage in life. Karika didn't even speak English...well, at least not well enough to make much sense.

And what also didn't make sense to her was all the new people around. Out of the corner of her eyes she noticed a boy with Kitty. It didn't bother her much, the boy wasn't bugging her and she was much more interested in the pudding oozing out of the cracks in the plastic. Noting once more that Kitty was coming over, she sniffed the air. It seemed that she wanted to introduce her to someone. But in her hand was a ruby necklace on a black chain.

The blinking red of the ruby caught her attention immediately and Karika set the pudding aside. Taking it out of Kitty's hands, she examined the necklace. "Pretty." She breathed and looked over at the boy, waving the necklace as a strange 'thank you'. Without thinking, she reached below the neckline of her black leather bodysuit to pull out a set of ID tags that were welded in the back so it was near impossible to get them off her neck. With nimble fingers she slipped the rope over her head and smiled before picking up the slippery, pudding cup.

Looking over, she watched as Jonathon reached for a pudding cup. But he also picked up a strange object too. It was concave on one side but if you flipped it over, it was convex. Karika watched as he pulled open the TOP of the pudding and used the utensil to eat the pudding! Reaching down, she picked up another object...unfortunately it was a fork. And as she tried to copy his movements with the pudding, it slopped back through the slots in the fork.

Karika was frustrated to say the least until Jonathon spoke.

Sick. That was a word she knew. Immediately, she set the pudding down and tried to purge the images from her mind. "No sick!" She said, remembering every time she was "sick" and they would pump her with medicine after medicine, poking needles into her skin and making her 'sleep'. Karika didn't want to be sick...she never wanted to be sick again. Leaning in, she looked into the basket again.

Empty.

And her stomach was still growling.

"Yes it is. The boys name is Blink. I am sure you will see him later. Kitty couldn't help but swallow as she saw the dog tags, 'Didn't Mr. Logan have something like that?' she wondered.

"Guess I should of brought some napkins." she laughed. Looking over at Chase she grinned. He too was eating, but with a spoon. 'Learn by example.' she thought. Kitty never stopped learning from Chase and she liked that.

She watched at Karika grabbed a fork and tried in vain to get pudding to stay on it so she could eat it. She smiled and grabbed another spoon. "This is a spoon. It will work better."

"This, is a fork." she held up the other.

Jonathan chuckled softly, not in the least disturbed by Karika's outburst. He caught Kitty's glance in his direction and smiled reassuringly.

"Not that kind of sick, Karika, don't worry. You do, however, need a more nourishing meal than pudding cups and I need to talk to Professor Xavier about having you stay here. Now...to do that I need to make a copy of your file for the Professor to see. I won't take it from you but for a few moments to make the copies. Shouldn't take more than 10 or fifteen minutes. Can you leave it with me and go with Kitty for better food?"

Jonathan held out his hand, again palm up showing that he was asking and not demanding. He had reservations about talking to Xavier but felt strongly about looking after the young woman.

Re: Location: Great Room near Admin Offices
Karika watched the red crystals dance inside of the ruby, bringing a slight smile to her small, delicate face. "Yes it is. The boys name is Blink. I am sure you will see him later." She looked up as Kitty spoke and looked once more at the boy. "Later, Blink." She repeated. Though her words coincided with 'current slang', she did not know it in that way; she was merely repeating what she understood to show her knowledge.

Unfortunately, it was becoming increasingly frustrating to not be able to speak. Sure, she understood mostly everything...the problem was her own limitations. And one huge limitation was trying to eat pudding with a fork. Kitty put her hands up and Karika almost immediately recoiled...but the weapon Kitty had was blunt. It...it looked like the thing that Jonathon had. "This is a spoon. It will work better.""This, is a fork."

"Fork." She said, taking the spoon and inclining her head in a subtle 'thank you'. Going at the pudding again, she finished it within seconds and then looked to the empty basket. Frowning, she looked to Kitty. Karika would've gone to the food itself...but she was lost in this enormous house. This base was not the one she had been at since birth...this base was foreign. If one did not know that, they could never know how truly hard it was for her to sit there and do anything but kill.

Kill, kill, kill...it was all she knew. It was a mantra she had lived with forever, and it was put aside only by the fact that she was away from Weapon X. Soon she would find out if there were true people out there. In the meantime, she had to get some food...her stomach was gurgling and sending hunger pains through her body. "It's ok. I will get you some food that won't make you sick. Um do you want to stay here or come with me. I'm just going to the kitchen. The kitchen is where we keep our food."

"Kitchen." Karika repeated and looked to Jonathon as he spoke up. Can you leave it with me and go with Kitty for better food?" His voice soothed her nerves, making her feel better about the sickness.

As soon as he spoke of her file though, her stomach roiled again. Standing up next to Kitty, Karika examined his face. He was asking a lot of her...asking to copy the file that she had entrusted to him and him alone entailed that he was going to share it. Then again, he would not betray her...right? Her mind whirled, thinking of everything. In the end, however, Karika knew that he had already shared with her the information in her file...so he could not hide anything from her.

Nodding slowly, she gave her permission...at least, as far as she could. Putting her hand on the file, she gave him a clear warning. "Mine. Careful." The file was hers and he was to take extreme care of it. Turning to Kitty, she took several steps. "Food..." She said, once more her stomach grolwled loudly. "Now."

Jubilee paused.

"I'm not entirely sure still, but there was this huge fight in the kitchen. That's about when I went to find you."
