Re: Olympia: Stern Hallways/Tags:Cyclops, Gyrich
"Do you know what it means to be a slave, Wolverine?" Magneto asked with quiet intensity. Logan stared back at him with an intense expression, knowing full well that Eric Lenscher knew all about his history. "Yes, of course you do, I forgot. Perhaps we could entertain each other with our mutual distrust of governments, and why we need to set ourselves apart! Felicia and Andreas would find that quite interesting now that they have entered our station in life, wouldn't you say so?" he asked the X-Men's feral leader. Logan's gaze dropped fromhis momentarily as he gave that a second's thought.

He slowly unbuttoned his shirtsleeve, carefully placing the cufflink in his breastpocket before unrolling his sleeve to expose a faded blue tatoo - a sequence of numbers. "I got this, at Auswitch. ...

"I would NEVER make another my slave, NEVER!" he said in a choked, hoarse whisper. "And I swore to do everything in my power to prevent that." He turned to Wolverine. "I am sorry, Wolverine, that my power was too distant, my knowledge too uncertain to spare your sorrows when you were in need." With a new fire in his voice he announced "If we use people, it is only those fools and their agents who would just as soon take advantage of us!"

Wolverine's eyes shot back up to the leader of the assembled Brotherhood; a bit confused perhaps by his sincere tone.

With a disgusted look, Felicia turned to Wolverine and flatly stated "Your mother dresses you funny," before she stuck her tongue out in his direction.

Her comment came so far out of the blue that Logan's expression turned almost comical in confusion, before glancing down at his burned skin and nearly non-existent uniform that had been seared away by the fire. Raising his head, face scrunched in perplexity, he glanced around at the assembled mix of people as if the answer to his puzzlement would be written on their faces. Now he was totally lost in the middle of this apparent stand-off.

"...The X-Men were never known for cold-blooded murder. They were never known for murder at all. Then again ..." he let a tinge of disappointed rebuke enter his voice, "they were never known for carrying Magneto's water, either."

"Perhaps it is because they don't trust you, either. I can't imagine why," Magneto interjected. He paused while Gyrich's words sunk into Wolverine and he, in turn, released the hostage.

"My craft carries nuclear warheads. You might recognize them," he said, raising his head as now a high wind swept through the area courtesy of the Whale's reverse thrusters.

Turning around, he said flatly: "Someone has to keep the world safe, now don't they?" Turning again to face Gyrich, he asked "Does that make me a hero in your eyes?"

"No, I suppose it doesn't."

"That's yer answer to all this?" Wolverine turned to Magneto, his voice low and serious again. "Nuclear warheads? Who're you to decide that everyone on board this ship should die if you don't succeed in yer goal? That's what I meant by bein' yer slave!!" He growled loudly, jabbing a finger at Lenscher. Then his bright blue eyes flicked to Felicia, silently; his brain still trying to figure out what his mother dressing him -which she didn't- had to do with any of this.

*********************************************
ooc: one correction... Wolverine never presented his claws while holdin' the soldier hostage, he figured those that knew of him would know his intentions without havin' to flash them in front o' the new kids... so she wouldn't know about his claws yet, unless someone told her.

Re: Olympia:Stern/tags: Kids and anyone
Storms eyes widened, 'On his ship? I should of known there was more to this. Nuclear Warheads? I don't know if I can take those out. I wish Jean was here.' she thought as she looked at the scared mutants.

Stepping inside, she frowned, "Dont' be afraid. Everyone must choose, but know this, we can help you."

Placing a hand on her chest, "I am called Storm."

Re: Olympia:Stern/tags Gyrich and Mystique
((OOC: OK, sorry. For some reason I was thinking yellow spandix. Assume she made that remark to Cyclops or Nightcrawler instead, then. There is still enough of the contrast between nicely dressed "Normal" looking Mystique & Magneto vs freakly looking X-Men to get the desired subcontext across that the two were trying to establish with Felicia and her boyfriend. Remember both mutants appear normal and considered themselves normal until their powers manifested just recently.))

Re: New Beginnings (Day 3)
Crow was halfway up the elevator to the flying bridge when the plain white light changed, beginning to blink. Miri followed suit, utterly puzzled. A moment later, however, it was quite cleared up when the light changed colors. In all her experience, the burglar had, somehow, figured out that flashing red lights tended to be a bad sign.

"Whoops..."

Along with the pretty colors, Magneto’s security system finally seemed to kick in, along with big, thick security panels. Crow supposed she should have been impressed, or intimidated, or even a little bit scared. Instead, she simply eyed the small security pad set into the wall, chewing her lip thoughtfully. She knew she had seen something about codes in her browsing of the system…

As the elevator came to a halt, once again on the flying bridge, Miri dug up what she thought might be the code out of her recent memory. She tapped it in, and was pleasantly surprised by a pneumatic hiss as the impenetrable barrier withdrew. The more normal door behind it opened after it, to reveal a slightly different sight than the one she had left. Gazing out onto the much more elevated deck, Crow was rather regretting her decision not to borrow the ‘Whale. Then again, she hadn’t known it could fly.

However, there was something slightly more distressing happening. Its flight path was, in fact, bring it closer to the Olympia, and what had to be an upset Magneto. Crow sharpened her eyesight, peering into the hole in the ship’s side. She winced. Not only was the metallic manipulator there, she could see a few of the X-Men, someone who had to be one of the mutants that started this whole thing, and…someone she couldn’t see--only a hint of movement in the shadows alerted her to his presence. Miri had a feeling she wouldn’t go over well with any of them.

”Brilliant, Crow. Absolutely brilliant.”

She still had a minute, though, before anyone on the ship could really see her. That was a minute to plan; a minute to get herself in the best of a rapidly deteriorating situation. Her customary grin, layered with mischief and falsehoods, returned full force. A minute to prepare the bluff of the century, I hope.

With quick, efficient movements, the shifter crossed the deck, coming to a stop by the control wheel. Looking it over thoroughly but rapidly, Crow turned back to the approaching Olympia, leaning up against the side almost casually. She let an unconcerned, slightly conceited mask slip over her, setting her pose, expression, and even thought pattern to match. It would take more than a little work to pull off a bluff like this…

Re: Olympia: Engineering/Gyrich/Tags: Open
The SEAL released by Wolverine caught his balance and moved quickly to rejoin his comrades, almost past Gyrich when Magneto revealed the presence of nuclear warheads aboard the Whale. Gyrich didn't move beyond a slight motion of his little finger transmitting an order via click-code, and the smaller man didn't pause as he acknowledged it.

** Empty Quiver. Inform fleet. **

Turning again to face Gyrich, [Magneto] asked "Does that make me a hero in your eyes?"

Gyrich's voice was dry and biting as he replied. "You've obviously mistaken me for Teddy Kennedy," he said. "And no, it doesn't make you a hero -- not when you parrot Hitler's 'Master Race' rhetoric with such fervor."

As he spoke, Gyrich was gauging positions and distances. Somebody had to get aboard the ship hovering just outside the hole in the hull and, as the closest, that meant him. With a running start -- and he would definitely be running -- he should be able to hurdle the gap between the two vessels. Provided, of course, nobody got in the way or zapped him en route. Preventing that would be the SEALs' job and he clicked orders to that effect ... just as another mutant appeared in the way.

Stepping inside, [Storm] frowned, "Dont' be afraid. Everyone must choose, but know this, we can help you."

Placing a hand on her chest, "I am called Storm."

"In position," Omega-One's voice came over Gyrich's comlink, signalling that the ranged nullifier crew had a clear shot at Magneto. ** On my mark, ** he clicked back, readying himself for the sprint of his life.

Re: Olympia: Engineering/Cyclops/Tags: Open
Scott had thought his heart couldn't sink any further, but the revelation that the Whale was armed with nuclear weapons sent it plummeting to subterranean levels. Bad enough a man like Magneto had nukes, further complicating the situation would be the humans' reaction to that knowledge. The battle group would hear as soon as one of the commandos got to where he could get a signal out. From there, it would just be a matter of how far up the chain of command was the person willing to risk the possible fallout, political and literal, of splashing the Whale here and now to eliminate the potential future threat posed to American cities. And, with the current Commander in Chief having made it crystal clear that preemptive offensive action was allowed ...

That was in the future, though. Closer to, in both time and space, was the commando leader and his team. He would act to either eliminate Magneto, the Whale, or both. And, though he'd made no visible move or command, Scott had no doubt he was doing just that.

Then there was Scott himself. Even more so than the commando leader, he couldn't allow Magneto to run loose with nukes. The commando was only worried about those the mutant villain might target. Cyclops thought of not just them, but the mutants who would suffer the inevitable and savage retribution such an attack would incur.

~ We must take control of the Whale, ~ Cyclops sent into the link, letting the others glimpse the probable results of failure. Doing a quick review of who was where, he noted Storm's arrival in Engineering. ~ Mana, Magma, Angel, Nightcrawler, it's up to you. We'll keep Magneto and Mystique busy here. Please relay to Wolverine and Gambit via radio. ~

OOC: Hopefully I haven't mislocated or omitted anybody. If I have, just let me know and I'll edit.

Re: Olympia: Engineering/Gyrich/Tags: Open
// Edit: clarification only. I'm really not happy with it so I'll probably keep tinkering. The effect will be the same, however.

~ Olympia, Engineering compartment ~

"That's yer answer to all this?" Wolverine turned to Magneto, his voice low and serious again. "Nuclear warheads? Who're you to decide that everyone on board this ship should die if you don't succeed in yer goal? That's what I meant by bein' yer slave!!" He growled loudly, jabbing a finger at Lenscher.

Gyrich's voice was dry and biting as he replied. "You've obviously mistaken me for Teddy Kennedy," he said. "And no, it doesn't make you a hero -- not when you parrot Hitler's 'Master Race' rhetoric with such fervor."

As the rescue pod containing Felicia withdrew, Magneto stepped a few paces to his left, positioning himself in front of the open hatch of the other pod. Immediately, the brilliant light which had been leaking around the first pod and which had framed Magneto's face filled the compartment to an incredible intensity, leaving all with naught but the best protection temporarily blinded as the roaring wind of the Jonah's Whale's reverse thrusters found every crevice in the compartment. In the sudden confusion, Mystique disappeared.

Magneto's voice rang out: "And the Lord God said unto Abraham, 'The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin is so grievous, that I will go and see it for myself.' Abraham asked of the Lord, however 'Will You sweep away the righteous along with the wicked? Will you not spare it for the sake of fifty? What if the number is five less than fifty, or only forty are to be found?' and God said again unto Abraham 'for the sake of the forty, I shall not destroy it.'"

"30, Auswitch. 20, Hiroshima ... 10, New York; this was not God's work, nor shall it be the work of mutants who are yet innocent of humanity's original sin" Magneto said, lowering his voice. "But I also will not sit idly by, waiting for that number to reach one."

"My hands held roughly, the ashes of thousands," he said, raising both before him in supplication. "I say roughly, for time was not allowed for either grace nor tenderness. Rabbi, teacher, farmer, ... mother. It ends here."

His voice broke off.

With a flick of his palm, the lights dimmed, returning to dusky daylight while the roar of thrusters diminished and died out. "Those are your ways, not ours, your power is an illusion," he announced. "You will find the warheads amidships on the Olympia, do try and keep better watch over them," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "My inheritors need a green and bountiful world when they claim their birthright, not one filled with ashes."

He held out a hand to Andrea, but he turned his head away from Magneto. "Very well," the powerful mutant said, withdrawing it. "The choice is yours."

~ Jonah's Whale ~

The iris door of the large central hanger bay opened, and from it issued an ugly cargo lifting vehicle occupied by an even uglier Toad in its persplex bubble. Slung underneath were a dozen warheads split between two pallets. With an unexpected grace, the pallets descended to an area amidship of the Olympia and the tow rope released.

Moments later, yet another rescue pod could be seen whisking the green mutant away from the Olympia, and away from the Jonah's Whale. With its departure, the craft reverted to its prior, non-secure state.

Chamber stared at Magneto who was quoting with a raised brow. Why would he be doing that at this time? What was his problem?

He glanced around in wonder before shrugging but saying nothing.

Scarlet Witch had shaken her head at Felicia's departure. To leave like, well whatever. Her gaze went to Magneto, narrowing slightly. <Couldn't be?> she thought. She shook her head glaring but she didn't do anything...yet. The time was so not right. She remained with the group, her thoughts elsewhere.

Karina sighed at Felicia's departure. The girl wanted to be Felicia's friend but...

Looking at the other she sort of gave them/him/her/whichever a smile of welcome. Her hand still in her pocket clutching at a seed.

No plan survives contact with the enemy, Gyrich thought, doing some fast thinking on his feet. While Magneto ranted, the commando radioed quietly to his men. "Alpha-Two, take Delta, secure those pallets. Go." With a quick signal of acknowledgement, Simpson departed, three of the SEALS fading back to join him. "Alpha-Three, Gamma, flanking rush. Omega, target order -- Magneto, Wolverine, Storm, opportunity fire. On my mark."

He held out a hand to Andrea, but he turned his head away from Magneto. "Very well," the powerful mutant said, withdrawing it. "The choice is yours."

'Taking this with a pillar of salt," Gyrich not-quite-drawled. And snapped his fingers.

OOC: The five men with Gyrich will fight hand-to-hand rather than potentially sending bullets ricocheting everywhere -- but they are SEALs. They're also wearing gizmos that neutralize mutant powers within 3' ... at least for a short while (prototype gizmos). Indirect power use, such as dropping or throwing something from outside the field, will affect them normally. They won't engage anyone who doesn't try to stop Gyrich/them getting to the Whale, however, and the three-man nullifier crew will stay with their gun.

Though he had expected Gyrich to make a move, having allowed himself to be distracted by Andreas and Magneto, Cyclops was taken initially by surprise when the S.H.I.E.L.D. team exploded suddenly into action. Calling a warning both aloud and through the link, he leapt to shield Andreas, spinning as he did so to face the charging humans.

Six, Cyclops counted, the big leader and five others -- and they semed to be headed straight for Scott and Andreas. Resisting a sudden urge to gulp, he narrowed his eyes and concentrated, feeling the visor respond. A crimson beam flashed out, aimed at the floor just in front of the commando leader's feet ... and winking out just an arm's length away.

Evan stepped in between the soldiers and the X-men and mutants. Then, he said simply, "Leave now, and you won't be hurt," to the soldiers. This, however, was followed up by a sudden loud noise, as of bones breaking. Evan's body fell, tearing apart visibly even as it did. What rose out of the body, though, was larger than evan had been. It wasn't as large as his strongman form, but it had what appeaed to be prehensile tentacles in place of arms, and it's skin began to crackle with electricity even as it set itself between the Xen and the soldiers, the remaining mutant still on the side with the X-men. He moved uncertainly, but he still reached out towards the approaching soldiers. To his surprise, however, as both he and the soldiers neared, his altered form collapsed into the remains of what had been his human form. In only moments, he had reverted to human form. "Of course, I could be wrong," he commented, smiling wryly at the lead soldier.

Okay guys,

I am back, but I am sick, so, ah, I have caught up, but I have such a bad headache I am confused. Please excuse my lack of posting for Remy until my head is better.

I will, however, let everyone know that Gambit's first reaction to the movement of the soldiers would be to get those he's in charge of back and out of harms way, so, if anyone (our Plot Master, perhaps?) wants to mention him doing this, go ahead, as, for now, I am too out of it to post.

Thanks.

Cheers,

As the soldier's began to move out, Wolverine's attention was drawn to them. A low growl rumbled his chest as he turned his attention back to the large SEAL leader. His eyes narrowed as he watched the man speak into his radio. He could barely hear the order given but his skill at reading lips was all he needed at this point. If there's one thing Wolverine knew was an attack command when he saw one... especially when the lips he's reading form his own name.

"Move!" Logan shouted and pushed Storm forcefully to the ground behind cover. He knew she could take care of herself but his tendency to act out protectively always seemed to get the better of him before he had the chance to stop and think.

"You bastard," he growled out as he turned to face Gyrich. Dropping his hands to his sides, his claws released with a loud metallic sound and a flash as the light coming through the hull breach shone off the brilliant metal talons. He snarled viciously, showing his fangs as he approached the military commando. He could take a truck load of bullets, that fact had been tested many times over... it hurt like hell, but he'd survive it. That was his only thought as tunnel vision left him with only Gyrich's face in his sights as he raised his claws in front of him, prepared for battle as he stormed toward the larger man.

Confrontation. Anger. Danger. Attack. It all happened in surreal slow motion to the Cajun, his idea of a situation like this never once being experienced in his life. Exactly what had he gotten himself into agreeing with the bird boy in coming to the mansion, offering his services to do… what? Die?

Gambit shook his head, backing up, those still behind him forced to back up with him. Something major was about to go down, and he was not going to let either himself, or those with him, come in between a feral mutant and soldiers trained to kill, and likely for no good reason either.

The first arm Remy grabbed, pushing its owner back even further, realising Wanda, Karina, and Chamber were already deeply involved, was Rogue’s. “No’ way yo’ be stickin’ yo’ head in dere to’, Mon Cher,” he said, red-on-black eyes locking with hers momentarily, before, in a split decision made, he went back, and took a hold of both Wanda and Karina, pushing the three girls back and around the corner, hopefully out of the line of fire.

Leave it to the older mutants to take care of themselves, he felt it lay with him to keep the kids safe. Leaving the three girls for merely a couple minutes, he moved back around, grabbing Chamber and yanking him back to join with the others. “De pr’verbial…” he paused, hesitating, “Trouble be ‘bou’ t’ go down, an’ none o’ yo’ are gonna be in de middle o’ it.” He thought about Evo losing his ability the closer he got to the soldiers, “Dere be some sorto’ pow’r damp’ner out dere, all o’ yo’ jus’ be gettin’ yoselves s’riously hur’ if yo’ be tryin’ an’t’in’,” he added, feeling a tinge of fear for Evo; he’d been too far away for the Cajun to quickly grab him out of the way.

The look on his face suggested if any of them just once decided they wanted to protest, he was about ready to use any means necessary to keep them ALL out of the main fight. A ticked off Logan was heading for one of the soldiers, claws at the ready, the last time he saw. He believed that mutant was likely to forget who was friend and who was foe in the heat of the battle.

OOC: Bac' wit' de oth'r la... wha' yo' be implyin', Mon'ami? *Grins* Quarrelling between the Wolverine and the Cajun... hehe, I would like to see more of that. ;)
