Re: Jonah's Whale/Logan, Jean/Tags: Mission Goers
"We are ready, then," Magneto sighed as he remained levitated inches above the brilliant white floor of the flying bridge. "These gloves," he noted, "control the observation drones." As he spoke, a pair of spheres, about a foot in diameter arose. Oddly, they had some resemblence to the famous Death Star from the Star Wars franchise, with a dimpled conic section holding the camera eyes. They were painted white, however, with blue trim - matching the general theme of the ship which was done over in the colors of the flag of Israeli.

He spent a few moments describing how to operate the drones and the holographic displays. The controls and operation of the latter were similar to the danger room, albeit the projections had no tangible component and were visual only.

"It will be my responsibility to draw the attention of the two mutants, and of the authorities, towards myself and away from your teams so you are free to operate without interference." As he rose away from the Jonah's Whale, a UH-3H Sea King helicopter appeared. At first he ignored it, but it approached them and descended to hover while a crewman with a large camera device could be seen hanging out the open hatch. With a wave of his hand and a muttered comment about interference, that crewman was pitched back inside as the tail rotar flew off and the helicopter began a lazy spiral into the sea.

As the helicopter settled into the water, a large yellow inflatable raft deployed.

Re: Jonah's Whale/Gambit, Mana/Tags: Mission Goers
He looked back at the transport pad, his hand having let go of Mana’s the moment they had arrived. She’d grabbed it back in the Danger Room, pulling him through when he’d hesitated. Now, all fear of said transport was gone, a huge grin accompanied by a slight reddish purple glow in eyes of red-on-black.

“Well, dat be fun. Don’ know why dat tpyo’ technology no’ be available t’ de av’rage person,” he commented, looking around, unperturbed by the slight sway of the submersible they were on, eyes falling on those already there. “Yeah, I be knowin’, Mana,” he continued, before she could utter a word. “We be de las’ t’ arrive cos I be chicken, yo’ don’ ‘ave t’ be rubbin’ it in.”

Mana giggled just ahead of him, motioning for him to move off the pad; it was time to get this mission started. She was still unsure of how she could really help, aside from healing detail, but knew her instinct and initiative in past missions would kick in the moment the action began.

Overhearing Logan’s words to Scott, she said, “Yeah, time to party… or, ah, not,” her smile mixed with the apprehension she had been feeling all day.

Neither of them got a chance to answer her because Magneto started his speech, and Mana almost felt like closing off and not listening to him. Remy nudged her in the side, frowning at the look on her face. Mana blinked, nodded, and listened, only because she knew if she didn’t she could miss some vital piece of information and end up getting herself killed because of it.

Both Gambit and Mana raised an eyebrow each at the sight of the helicopter spiral and hit the water’s surface, Mana mumbling, “Typical Magneto,” getting another frown from her new Cajun friend.

Re: Jonah's Whale/Logan, Jean/Tags: Mission Goers
OOC: Since not everyone's in the mindlink, Scott will mostly speak both aloud and mentally (~"yadda yadda yadda"~). If it's exclusively one or the other, it will have the normal markings.

"This should put us at ready for deployment." Logan managed to keep the slightly grim note out of his voice.

Scott nodded, drawing in a slow, deep breath to steady himself as he did an inward mental roll call. The Jonah's Whale was spacious enough, but with upwards of a dozen people gathered around, it took a moment to spot who was missing. ~"Kurt? Are you here? How many can you transport at a time?"~

With a wave of his hand and a muttered comment about interference, that crewman was pitched back inside as the tail rotar flew off and the helicopter began a lazy spiral into the sea.

As the helicopter settled into the water, a large yellow inflatable raft deployed.

Scott tensed as he watched the helicopter go down, though he knew the men aboard were highly trained against just such an eventuality. At the sight of the raft, he relaxed again, though his discomfort with the whole situation increased.

Still, he reminded himself, it was nothing compared to what the people aboard the ship were suffering. As Lo -- Wolverine had said, it was time to deploy, as soon as Kurt signalled his readiness.

OOC: Sorry for the delay. I meant to post over the weekend, but rl is a fickle mistress.

Re: Jonah's Whale/Logan, Jean/Tags: Mission Goers
"Zwei," Kurt responded auf Deutsch, holding up two fingers before shaking his head.

"One, comfortably. Two, with some discomfort - naseau, perhaps, or perhaps not," he went on, crossing two fingers with the index finger of his opposing hand as he ticked off the combinations. "Beyond that is ... possible, but with increased discomfort, and perhaps need for medical attention. Four, perhaps, if a doctor is available. More, maybe even, but a doctor MUST be ready for patients. Shock and vomiting," he explained, "and dehydration."

He shook his head, appologetically. "I'm sorry, I have not tried porting beyond two, except once or twice or with animals such as horses," he added. " - in the circus TV show I was part of," he hastily explained.

Kurt had been keeping quiet, concentrating on the mission and trying not to be boisterous or disruptive. There were times and places for that, but not perhaps, now.

[PG] Jonah's Whale
Rogue had managed to find a way on this 'ship' and stowed herself away... By the time anyone found her, it'd be too late to force her to leave. She would be a part of this somehow or another...

(OOC: I hate how short this is, but time is crunched at the moment, and I didn't know what else to put! I don't know her motivation for boarding this vessel, and I don't know who her allies would be - esp. since we seem to have no Mystique... Any help would kick arse... *hugs*)

Re: [PG] Jonah's Whale
Skimming just above the water, Crow expertly flitted past crests and spray, playing casually against the wind. There was plenty of time...there always was. No reason to hurry. Besides, what was the last time YOU saw a gull fly to a single destination? Never.

Not to mention the extra air time allowed for free thinking. Absently doing a midair loop, she pondered over the situation. Magneto had already managed to cause a bit of disruption--silly boy and his genocide--and there was no telling what the team from Xavier's would do. From what she had gathered, there were previous few of them who had any experience. This could get messy.

On the other hand...she remembered reading something about a telepath, one other than Xavier. That could get inconvenient. With a mental grimace, she changed her outward thought patterns to mimic her form. It was more risky, sure, but not nearly as awkward as getting discovered prematurely would be. Lots of people with superhuman abilities tended to upset the thief.

Coming to the bridge, she pulled upward abruptly, landing neatly on the Crow's Nest. She couldn't help herself; the wording was too perfect. Glancing downward, she let out the asthmatic-sounding call characteristic of the birds. Perhaps one of them had something to eat...

Crow gave herself a firm mental kick. As if turning into a seagull wasn't bad enough, thinking like one was worse by countless measures.

Wanda:

Wanda remained in place, though her gaze had been on Magneto, a grimace at her lips. She turned her face away, to look around the place.

Not bad. If I may say so. Not good but okay. she thought, folding her hands across her chest.

"So, now that we are here, what's next? Stand around and gawk," Wanda said soberly.

Karina:

The sound of a bird cawing gave Karina a bit of a start at first. Looking around, she was searching for the source. Then she shrugged, not wanting to miss anything.

Amara was glancing around though she was listening to all around her. She wondered when things were going to get a move on, as she was itching for a bit of action.

Her gaze turned Wanda/Scarlet Witch as that person spoke. Seemed like Wanda felt as she did.

China was breathing deeply, controlling herself. It was a form of relaxation for her since without it now, she would have been a basket case.

Her mediatations complete she was able to look around with a calm face that she presented to the world. She was ready for anything that might come at them.

Sorry this is short. Will do better next time...hopefully. lol

Jonothon was silent, arms folded, in a state of utter relaxation. Though inside, he was nervous. He wanted something to do. Anything.

His glance took in all as his ears listened calmly, or so it seemed.

Re: Jonah's Whale/Jonothon/Tags: Mission Goers
Scott nodded to Kurt, taking a look around the assemblage and mentally organizing them into pairs. One at a time might be easier on both the mutant teleporter and his 'passengers,' but two was faster. And he had a feeling time was very short.

Chamber: *So, shouldn't we do something now?*

~"Just so."~ Scott said. ~"Two by two. Evo and myself. Then Force and Angel. Chamber and Scarlet Witch. Karina and Magma. Mana and Gambit. Storm, we'll be safe from the radar down this low, but please begin gathering a storm in case we need one."~

Closing his eyes a moment, Scott slipped off his ruby quartz glasses, replacing them with the visor he drew from his pocket. A quick nudge settled it securely into place. It was, at least, comfortable, he thought with wry amusement. And with the brim of his baseball hat pulled down, he was effectively anonymous.

~"Anytime you're ready,"~ Scott said, extending a hand toward Nightcrawler.

~"Anytime you're ready,"~ Scott said, extending a hand toward Nightcrawler

Nightcrawler nodded to Scott, and began embracing team members, two at a time and porting as they called out their destinations.

//
To keep this moving, please hold to the following: There will be 3 locations on the ship Nightcrawler will port to, and there is also the rescue launch on the Jonah's Whale flying bridge - the structure is designed to allow operations on the surface such as this. The rescue launch is 16 feet long with twin inboard engines allowing speeds of up to 35 knots. It contains emergency supplies and a medical kit, oars, long poles, and anything else needed to pluck survivors out of the water.

Whoever announces first in each team decides on the destination:

The bow: this area is free of smoke and can be a good staging area for rescuing
people on the deck. This will be the easiest location to rescue passengers
and crew from, and there may already be several people waiting for pickup.

The amidships has moderate smoke and indications of damage. It is the most
direct route to the passenger cabins.

The stern is shrouded in smoke but the air is still breathable. There is
extensive damage all over. This area leads to the crew quarters and
engineering.

Remember the two mutants are near this location, and there is a high risk
of danger from both them and from things happening to the ship (such a steam
line rupturing).

The rescue launch can be used to rescue people from the water. As this is the
Adriatic Sea, the water temperature is sufficient to not be dangerous.

To forstall another week of "I'm here, now what?" the first person to appear in each location will create an immediate challenge or danger which they and everyone following at that location will need to deal with. Furthermore, instead of announcing "I'm going to the bow", make this part of your post. Also in your post announce what special gear you are carrying.

For example:

As Alex appeared on the ship's midsection in a cloud of brimstone, his hand still struggling to get into the remote controller he could hear a desparate pounding from a door on the lower level. Finally wedging his hand into the glove and activating, he sent the probe down some nearby stairs to approach the door, his gaze fixed on the holographic projection as he ran after it, following

Special gear:
A player may elect to carry one of two special items: a remote controller glove as just described, or an inertialess grappler, a device that bonds to a surface at the molecular level and then decreases the weight by up to two tons (note, negative weights are not possible).

The two mutants:
To make it possible for everyone to be involved in a rescue effort from the start, I am decreeing that the two mutants will only have a chance of affecting anyone in the stern location.

***REMEMBER: The first person at each location is responsible for defining the first encounter. Do not wait around for me or anyone else to introduce a plot element. They will be added as time goes on but this must be a player-driven adventure as much as it is a plot-driven adventure***

To aid memory, the following are the task assignments that "Scott" made earlier:

"Storm can call up a storm, complete with lightning that will take out the Aegis radar array. If at all possible, we need to avoid the appearance of a mutant attacking the warship. I don't know how common storms are in the area at this time of year, but best if it's made to appear as if it at least could be natural.

"Banshee, if he can, will shield the submersible from sonar detection. Then he can either accompany the team or stay with the submersible to guard it, if we can't or don't want to send it away and recall it.

"Nightcrawler will get the team aboard, and provide evacuation for us and civilians as necessary, assisted by Warren. Off the civilians, any critically injured can be stabilized by Mana, but I suggest we send or move as many as we can up to the deck to be picked up by the Task Group. They should have rescue helos up, that'll keep them busy.

"Evo can act as scout. We can leave the shell aboard the submersible or bring it with us, whichever works better.

"Jonothon, Remy, and I can clear the worst of any wreckage, with Evo switching to a form more suited to heavy lifting if we need to extract someone pinned. Karina can help with that, as well -- I've seen roots and vines crack solid granite.

"Amara can do fire control, backed up by Mana, if necessary.

"China can shield us or civilians in danger.

"Wanda will be our wild card, tipping the odds back in our favor whenever they start to lean the other way."

Re: Olympia-Stern-ish Area/Rogue/Tags: Mission Goers
Having just left Mystique and the Brotherhood because they had been unable to help Rogue learn to control her powers, Rogue decided that she needed to take some action. She knew about the X-Men and figured that they could help her, although she hated to ask them for help. She also knew that Magneto had gone to them... She tried to follow him, and she'd managed to wind up here - on the Olympia. Luckily, she was close to Magneto and the X-Men (who would recognize her as one of their past enemies and might get confused at her presence...); unluckily, there had been a terrorist attack or something, and she wasn't safe here.

Rogue had been sneaking about a bit, doing her best to remain unnoticed, and thanks to all the smoke and such, she was doing a decent job.

However, the smoke was making her eyes water a bit and she was trying desperately not to cough as she made her way around.

She decided that she'd had enough of this covert crap and wanted to get to fresh air, and she couldn't hold back from coughing any longer...

So, Rogue leaned against a wall and let loose with a small coughing fit. Someone was bound to notice her now, but nothing could be done for that. Somehow she'd have to explain her presence, and she could probably think of a story later... Maybe...

OOC: Added to this post... Gave her some background. So far only the remaining members of the Brotherhood know she's gone, and the X-Men might see her as an enemy, although they don't know that she's coming to them for help and is hoping to be an ally... Feel free to have someone find her... Please!

Re: Jonah's Whale-Stern-ish Area/Rogue/Tags: Mission Goers
Well, its really up to you why you were on the ship in the first place. First off, there are two ships: the Olympia, a cruise ship which is going through a "terrorist" (according to the world press) incident, and the Jonah's Whale, which is Magneto's submarine base and current base of operations for a recovery effort to rescue two very powerful mutants who have just awakened to their powers and are responsible for the "incident". Given your Brotherhood background, you may choose to assume you left the group of your own accord, whether in a pique of self-interest or some sort of moral choice on your part. Stowing away on the Olympus was a way for you to get away from them.

While the Johna's Whale is Magneto's craft, he is effectively out of the game, busy distracting the mutants and naval forces so the X-Men can take care of things. He will be unaware of your presence unless you happen to stand in front of him and shout "Boo!".

Decisions you have to make if you choose to follow this path:
Why did you leave?
Are you known to the X-Men?
Are you known to Magneto?

My AIM is Haverberg, I'll make sure to log in tonight if you want to talk things through. Also read through the announcements in Plotting and Planning.

OlympiaStern-ish Area/Evo/Tags: Scott
As the smoke and brimstone from Nightcrawler's teleportation began to dissipate, Evan saw them in a passageway in the stern of the ship. To his surprise, however, the passageway leading to the area around Engineering was blocked by a partial collapse.

~Great. Cyclops, how do you want to do this? I can go as Wisp and I might be able to get around the collapse, but it would leave you to clear the passageway. If I stay and go as Crunch, it would let me help clear the passage, but then I couldn't scout ahead.~ Evan wasn't sure which outcome would be better, especially with the weaknesses of the two forms listed, but he was sure that Cyclops, having been briefed on hsi powers as he was sure the Professor would have done, would know what he meant by mentionign Wisp and Crunch, especially since Evan pictured the forms for a moment as he thought the names.

Re: OlympiaStern-ish Area/Evo/Tags: Scott
Cyclops studied the blockage thoughtfully as he considered Evo's question. Barricade or random collapse? How likely was it to be booby-trapped? The two mutants were ostensibly civilians, but you never knew what talents might pop up in unexpected people.

~Wisp,~ he replied. ~I can blast the wreckage clear, but we need to be sure first that there's nobody trapped in or beyond it ... and that it's not propping up the ceiling in this whole area.~

Re: OlympiaSternish Area/Gambit/Tags: Scott & Evo
The Cajun almost fell over when Nightcrawler appeared at their destination. ~Okay, so de transpad be more fun!~ he thought, looking around, taking in the area. He'd been told to go with the one known as Scott back in the Danger Room, so here he was, and there was the barricade, which Evan seemed to be pointing out to Cyclops, without words.

“Yo, I no’ be in dat ‘net’ lin’,” he said, not loud enough for anyone else to overhear, but loud enough for those with him to. “So, wha’ be de plan t’ move dat? Cos, if yo’ ask me it be bes’ t’ move it wit’ little charges, may take longer, bu’ if dere be people under it, dey won’ be hur’.”

~No’ t’ mention any traps we migh’ set off,~ he thought, walking closer to the debris.

He studied it for a second, his keen eyes and ex-thief experience kicking in. He spotted it only moments before he was about to turn back to the others… the camouflaged wire running between the shattered beam at the very top of the pile, near the roof, and probably connected to it too.

“See, now dat be de reason yo’ be askin’ Gambit alon’ wit’ yo’, no?” he said, cockily. “I be de only one t’ see dat.”

At least he assumed he was the only one.

“Small blas’ be better den one big one,” he said again, pointing to the wire for emphasise. “Bu’ dat jus’ be mah idea, yo’ bein’ in charge an’ all.”

Re: Olympia/The Bow&Deck/Mana/Tags: Nightcrawler/Angel
She felt the injured even before he ported them to the bow of the Olympia; those who were severely injured almost standing out to her like sore thumbs. No, they didn’t glow or anything, but her healing powers caused a slight purple glow to her skin, reacting to the wounds and injuries around her.

Mana wasted no time, jumping over the railing down onto the deck, running to the nearest passenger’s side, asking him where it hurt, and telling him she could help him if he let her. And, he did, although reluctantly at first. She left those not injured to Angel and Nightcrawler, still remembering what it felt like to be working alongside Warren again; remembering how good it felt to be ported with him by her side.

“NO!” the female voice cried. “No! I am too young to die, and you are not touching me!” She was delirious, Mana having to hold her down to help her.

“I’m not going to hurt you,” the pyrokinetic healer said, touching her arm gently, pulling it away when her powers past into her, the dizzy spell hitting her the moment she heard the snap in her own arm, as she took on the broken bone, hissing in pain, and sitting back to let it heal.

~Stupid powers!~ she thought. She hated this side of them; hated having to wait until she healed before helping those in need.

The lady sat up, moving her arm, grinning in appreciation, “Wow, thanks,” she said, looking at Mana. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I will be,” she answered, looking up in time to see a nearby set of crates suddenly burst into flames. She was up and on her feet again before the lady even knew what was happening, motioning to the fire, willing it under her control, and noticing out of the corner of her eye the black wiring attached to the back of the female passenger’s shirt, extending down into the floor.

*The injured are booby-trapped! So watch your step!* she warned, via the communications ‘net’.

Re: Olympia/The Bow&Deck/Mana/Tags: Nightcrawler/Angel
OK, looks like we have a real terrorist on board now. This is good: as I said, a lot of this will be player-driven.

Some things to keep in mind:
The two mutants in question are NOT terrorists. The news
media and authorities are calling it a terrorist attack
because they don't know what is really going on and are
making assumptions, not knowing what else to call it.

More information on the mutants, that the characters
would not know but the players must be aware of for
plotting purposes:

Andreas Koenig: Part of the Olympia's engineering staff.
He has just discovered his power and is still very
frightened and reactive. His power is the ability to
change the conductivity of any substance, changing the
flow of electricity.

Felicia Morgan: A London native and one of the Olympia's
bartending staff, she is his girlfriend. She can see,
hear, and speak out to a distance, regardless of what is
in the way (she can perform her power through walls,
structures, and terrain, etc). She has had her power for
a few months. She is basically an opportunist but not
evil. She'd have no compunction about, say, having
Adreas blow up a safe, so long as no one gets hurt.

The terrorist(s) could easily be an acquaintance of
Felicia's, or an asset of the Brotherhood sent to see
if Rogue has escaped on the ship. Or they could be just
opportunistic, taking advantage of a random chance at
doing mischief. (note: Al Quaida is known for using
ships to move materials and people, and has made several
attempts to become part of a ship's crew. The prospect
of filling a ship's hold full of explosives as a terror
weapon apparently excites them).

Re: OlympiaSternish Area/Karina/Tags: Scott, Evo,Gambit
Appearing where Nightcrawler went, Karina nearly fell. She wasn't used to such. But she was able to catch herself...this time.

She went digging into her pocket searching for certain seeds.

"I think I might have seeds that can get through the cracks, if there are cracks, so we can find out what's going on before entering. I wouldn't want anyone getting hurt by entering," she said softly, her hands still rummaging in her pocket for the seed in question. She gave a little shrug at that, "Besides, I can pretty much 'see' what the plant sees."

Scarlet Witch was startled when the brimestone smell dissapated and she found herself where she was. Glancing around she shrugged. Interesting. Wonder what's on the other side?

The others were talking about what to do with the 'bricked' up wall.

Heh, I'll wait for a bit before making a suggestion. They may come up with a viable idea after all. Besides, I'm the wild card, so to speak.

She waited, arms crossed, eyes wary.
