As the name indicates...this RPG will revolve around Crossroads and New Beginnings.CrossroadsWe would like to see characters come to a 'crossroads' in their lives where important and life changing decisions have to be made. These events can be very personal...i.e. a relationship beginning, ending or changing, or they can be moral or spiritual. Whatever is decided, they should show 'growth' for your character.New BeginningsThis can be any number of items as well and most likely will relate back to the 'crossroads' in your character(s)' life or lives and/or career. They may be starting a new career as teacher or student at Xavier's School for the Gifted or may have been selected to train for the upcoming X-Men team(s). Their 'new beginning' once again may be as simple as establishing a new relationship or changes in an old one.

As she was hauled upward, Crow strongly considered turning into a porcupine, just to see if she could turn Wolverine into a pin cushion. It would almost be worth the pain that would undoubtedly follow. Her reproachful look on him masking the blooming headache, Miri stayed silent, thinking about what to say. Such was unnecessary, she found out a moment later, as the feral dropped her again. Only through an extreme effort of will was she able to return to her seat with some semblance of grace and intention.
A grateful look and the hint of a smile toward Gyrich was as much of a thank you as she ever was comfortable giving, so she remained silent, content to listen to the pair duke it out. Meanwhile, she made a show of inspecting her nails. It was a great façade, not to mention she really needed to do something about the dried blood under a few of them. Finally, although her focus didn’t change, she added in her own two cents. “Defending yourselves?” she asked calmly, “So I guess that’s why you came up here to reclaim Maggie’s boat.” Finally, Crow lifted her gaze to view the two over her hand. “And if you’re going to defend that with something about your need of a way out of here…don’t. You know as well as I that there are other means of transportation you can use.”

Evan simply nodded and walked on through the doors whuch opened as he approached. His Wisp form was small but quick, so he was inside in only a short time. He looked around carefully, trying to see if anything looked usable, helpful, familiar, or informative.

The radio on the Jonah's Whale continued to crackle with fleet intercepts, although dropoffs were common, courtesy of the ongoing duel over frequency hopping and encryption. Most of the traffic dealt with the ongoing rescue effort, or the stowing and safing of the nuclear warheads from Magneto's craft.
Other exchanges were not, however.
"Squid Cell, this is Pappa. what's your status?"
"This is Squid-Alpha-3," Maldonado's voice returned. "Negative receive on Alpha-One, assuming command. Alpha-2 enroute to infirmary, have a story to tell. We have recovered all gear from target, preparing for re-insert as necessary, over."
Another voice broke in, muffled by the sound of respirator gear: "Are we go for splash of unidentified, over?"
Papa: "Negative Fox-1, target is too close to Olympia. Squid-Alpah-3, are your men ready for insert?"
Maldonado: "To Unidentified Bandit? We are currently replacing fuel cells on packs, ETA is two minutes. What is Romeo Oscar Echo?"
Pappa: "ROE is open, no civilians confirmed on Unidentified Bandit. Assume all are hostile. Are your blue packs still operational?"
Maldonado: "Negative function on blue packs, deadly force will be required."
Pappa: "You are go for deadly force, over."
Maldonada: "Roger that, deadly force confirmed. ETA is 1 minute 30."

From where Cyclops stood in the doorway watching over Evo, the terse, businesslike voices in the intercepted transmission were clearly audible, and the words closed around the young mutant's heart like a fist. Nemesis' team was returning, possibly with reinforcements, definitely with license to kill. Their leader was missing and they'd taken casualties, at least one of them severe. And they were up against the unknown. They would be tense and armed to the teeth. Neutralizing devices or not, if it came to a fight, the battle would be a bloodbath on both sides.
"Wolverine," he said into his radio, "we've found a comm intercepting and decrypting fleet transmissions. There's a strike force of Nemesis' men inbound for the Whale, just under 90 seconds out. They have shoot to kill authorization."
It didn't have to be like this. Scott pushed back a black wave of frustration and despair. They weren't enemies, it was only fear and mistrust on both sides making it seem that way.
Just like Magneto wanted.
It was as if the thought was written in letters of fire, illuminating the silhouette of Master of Magnetism's dark plan -- and how it might, just possibly, be countered. Wolverine and Nemesis were both proud, intelligent men. If they could be made to realize that they were being played against each other, being played for fools by their mutual enemy ... there might just be hope yet.

Evan was marveling at the multi-level room he found beyond the doors when he overheard the intercepted radio transmission. ~Cyclops, that doesn't sound good.Looks like we can control the ship from in here, but if the soldier-boys stop us before we can get out, we may have a problem. There's a lot of displays here, but it look like the main controls are on this island in the center.~ Even while he was reporting to Cyclops, Evan moved along the walkway on his way to the control island. Once he got there, though, he stopped, unsure of what all he was seeing. ~Can we get someone here that might know somethign that could help fly this thing?~

Most of the global planetarium-type display showed open sky, almost identical to what one would perceive had one been at the top of the Whale, nestled in the crows nest. various items on the display - ships, helicopters, and so forth - were notated with unubtrusive surrounding brackets with notational letters and numbers. floating over the display was a map-like overview similar to what one would expect from a traditional computer game. Before him was a console with a keyboard and trackball, and a 24" flat screen monitor. On the monitor was a looped display of a control station tutorial, playing at high speed.
As Evan hesitated before the controls, an area above the central column of the control island flickered to life, displaying a holographic project of a generic, bald-headed man. It spoke to him.
"Please state the nature of the assistance required."

((I'm going to invent a five day rule here, with an alternate action for a character who is stalling the action - similar to what I mandated for Cyclops in the hallway when Summers was gone for a few days a couple of months ago and people were waiting on him [but he posted before the alternate action took effect, which was a steam pipe breaking nearby and taking him temporarily out of the action]. The first tag for Wolverine was on 2/3. If there is no response by 2/8, I will propose an alternate action to get things moving again, and if there is no response two days hence (2/10) it will take effect. Note that as plot master, characters under my control will only respond to other's actions; I can't take the risk of God-modding. This means Nightcrawler will stand back and look on helplessly unless someone tells him to do something, but he will report what he sees over the link. [the only exception was when Nightcrawler helped Gyrich's team escape the explosion in engineering, something I think the X-Men would logically do if possible but had been overlooked - essentially batting "cleanup"])) Edited by: Paid by the Word at: 2/7/06 11:11 am

Gyrich half-closed his eyes, listening to the transmission and mentally translating it. He was mildly disappointed to learn the nullifiers were no longer in operation but, since his own had stopped working even before it had been confiscated, he wasn't especially surprised. They'd been nice to have, but he knew better than to treat any experimental tech as essential.
Shifting his head slightly, he studied the other's reactions while plotting his own. He would do whatever he could to help his men, that was a given. Of course, Wolverine also knew it was a given and would no doubt take steps. Just what those steps would be he would learn momentarily.
Chamber just watches, not saying a word otherwise. He wasn't about to anyway but things may or may not go wrong and he wanted to be ready for any evenuality of something going wrong.
A brow raised though one doesn't really see it as it is pretty much muffled as he looked around.

As Evan looked over the controls, he shrugged and typed a question. "How do I control this ship?" He then hit enter on the keyboard, hoping the help system was set up for keyboard as well as vocal input. if it was, he was sure it would react. If not, he had no idea how the ship would react.

Scott, enraptured by the holographic sandtable, took a few moments to respond, stepping into the room as he spoke. "If we take the Whale to the Coast Guard," he said, "they'll arrest us. Same with any other authorities. It would be simpler just to free Nemesis and surrender to him." He sighed. "Nuclear weapons are involved. They won't mess around, and they might not ever let us go. And if they trace us back to the School ... "
Cyclops shook his head. "We need to get this ship moving and get out of here." If I can find some way to get them to let us leave, he thought grimly. "Once we're clear and safe, we can decide what to do with her."
Looking at the holographic figure, he asked, "Can you open an intercom with the upper-level bridge?"

((The help system responds to keyboard input, yes. With a little more effort, Chamber will make a startling discovery: the entire interface is based on top of a popular video-game engine, one he is familiar with. After only a couple minutes into the tutorial, he will have a basic functional understanding of all essential ship systems))

Chamber's 'eyes' was still moving around. Things were interesting and getting more so. Especially on seeing what he saw. It was something he pretty much recognized and enjoyed. He moved slowly toward the object of his surprise and stared at it for a while.
*Now this is interesting. This is something I know.*
He used the tutorial of the help system and realized that the interface was familiar sense he had played a game with the same kind of keyboard input.
*Wow! Something I can work with.* His mental voice was filled with surprise. *Even I can work this system.*

Wanda stared straight ahead as if interested, but in fact, she was bored. Not even the the island(s) disapated the boredom she was feeling now. She was ready to leave-- to return to the mansion and figure out her next move. The thought that she had seen Magneto himself was enough to want her to go off and find him, but she held firm. First, she had to wait. Why not? She waited before. She had the patience now and she could wait.
Her glance at the others on the helo was pointed even a bit bored but she didn't say anything, wishing only to be left alone with her thoughts.
Karina:
Karina was seated in silence. Her glance at where they were heading for was one of surprise. She didn't know that where they were going was that but maybe it would only a be a stopping point and she could return to the mansion soon enough.

LaTrina was silent. And tired. The effects of the healing earlier had nearly drained her of strength so she didn't see what was going on in the helo. She sat there, panting heavily, trying to regain her breath. Her mother, watched her daughter, worry lining her face. Such tremendous energy it too for LaTrina to heal. Sometimes she wished her daughter didn't have that power. Then, on watching her daughter help others, she realized that LaTrina was lucky. There was some way for her to help those who need it. And this was it.
Her glance went to looking around her and she gasped.

Evan frowned s he listened to Cyclops. ~How about we make a deal with Nemesis instead, agreeing to give him the ship in return for our freedom to leave unhindered and without being followed? We don't need the ship except to get us home, I'm sure, and if he agrees, surely we can contact the school from the mainland and get a ride home that way.~
Logan listened to the entire transmission. He didn't really need to know who was who out there, but their message was clear. His scowl deepened and his jaw muscles tightened visibly. Grinding his teeth unconsciously Wolverine sneered and his pupils dilated as his primal survival instincts began to kick in and adrenal glands started pumping.

Wolverine turned again very slowly, looking over his shoulder at the SEAL leader, "Unidentified Bandit?" he asked, his voice gravelly with a feral growl. "I take it that's the code for this bucket o' bolts. Deadly force....? We don't stand a chance in hell o' ever gettin' due process outta the likes o' you, do we? I knew we should never've believed one freakin' word comin' outta Lenscher's mouth. Chuck still sees hope for that guy... this whole thing was a freakin' set up... whatever he's plannin', he's got us outta the way," with a pause he raised his eyes to look at Gyrich and added, "and he's gotten you outta the way..."
His eyes shot around the room, an intense scowl on his face, then he stormed over to the console and transmitted to Summers below. "Cyclops, you readin' any o' this?? Either find a way to move this ship or get everybody off of it..." Turning to narrow his darkened eyes at the soldiers' leader, added, "I'll hold 'em off up here if you can get that damm transpad workin'. I ain't losin' no kids on my watch... get 'em off this rig! And don't forget the girl... Nightcrawler will bring her down to you... Soldier Boy stays with me."

Background: Many, many years ago, Charles Francis Xavier established Xavier's School for the Gifted. Also, seeing other Mutants misusing and abusing their powers, he created the first generation of the X-Men.This original team was trained and lead by an old friend of his...Logan, aka Wolverine. Logan's co-leader was a young woman and student named Ororo Munroe, aka Storm. Once the team was trained and fielded on active missions, they took on the additional responsibility of teaching and helping new Mutants deal with their powers.On one horrible night, the X-Men were fielded to stop a particularly powerful Mutant and his 'gang'. The 'intelligence' received on this Mutant and his cohorts was sketchy and actually turned out to be a set-up to entrap the X-Men and take them captive. In the ensuing melee', 'things' happened and a number of the team were killed outright or severely injured.After making sure his remaining team-mates were going to be okay, Logan left. Xavier has not, to current time, explained his absence or even whether or not he survived.Current Time/Game Time: Almost seven years later, as Human/Mutant incidents are on the rise, Xavier once again sees a need for a Mutant 'police force'. He sees this new X-Men team as a force for good and a way to help peacefully integrate the rapidly emerging Mutant society with the established Human society. To this end, he has contacted Logan and asked him to 'come home' and train his 'new' team.
Logan has reluctantly agreed.Can shadows from their past be put aside for the good of the new X-Men? How will the surviving members of the original team react and what will they do as 'truths' are learned about that disastrous night?Note: We want the new X-Men to include younger versions of the old familiar characters such as Scott, Jean, Beast etc...as well as many of the OCC’s and other Canon characters that are available.Please ask the Staff BEFORE stating or establishing that your character was one of the old, now disbanded, original X-Men.
